Mounjaro.
I haven't talked about Mounjaro in a while since I previously reviewed what was called the SURPASS-2 trial that compared Mounjaro to Ozempic 1 mg once a week in individuals with diabetes.
Today, I want to focus on Mounjaro and the weight loss it provides in individuals that have obesity.
So let's get into it.

Hi Melanie... no.. I got in when they first offered the $25 coupon. My insurance doesn't cover it. I've been off over 2 months and maintaining luckily! I fast once a week.

Excellent video! I’m down 30lbs so far on Mounjaro/Trizepatide since April and there was a 7 day cruise during this time! Love hearing the detailed info on the mechanism of action!

I have been on Mounjaro since August 2022 and lost 45lbs. I love this drug! The only real side effect I still have (apparently super common with all glp-1 type drugs) is serious constipation, which completely resolves with Metamucil and Miralax. I had to go off MJ for a month due to savings card expiring. I switched to daily Victoza and gained back 12lbs! Did nothing. Thankfully as of 7/1 my insurance covers Mounjaro again! Life saver, completely fixes cravings and food seeking behavior.

Great video! Thanks especially for the weight loss vs. time chart at 7:46 from the study. It was helpful to compare my weight loss over time to this chart. My weight loss is currently matching this chart exactly.

Thanks for the review . I found out my insurance will now cover Wegovy and I’m going to ask my doctor about it my next visit . I had minimal success with Contrave over an 8 month period , glad to learn there are alternatives now .

I started Ozempic last October for blood sugars which were all over the place and I was prediabetic. I did lose some weight and I am feeling much healthier. So, I have plateaued in terms of weight loss and considering switching to Mounjaro. What will the cost comparison between Ozempic and Mounjaro? When will it be available in Canada?

Mounjaro didn’t work for me in regards to weightloss as a T2 diabetic. Didn’t make too many drastic changes in regards to my A12 either. , I wish I knew why. 😞

Diet and exercise still help a lot, even when on these new weight-loss drugs. Some ppl may need to do *everything* right in order to lose. Also, you’re not necessarily going to lose a lot on the lower doses. Some ppl do, but some do not.’

PS- Type 2 diabetics lose less weight than ppl who are only overweight/obese but aren’t T2D. I’d guess it’s due to their metabolism/insulin being more impaired. The fantastic numbers you see in the vid are for overweight/obese ppl. T2D ppl lose about 40% less weight than that on average, from what I’ve read. Long story short, it’s just more difficult, though still quite doable.

Im diabetic and was having a hard time loosing weight and this year my endocrinologist put me on Ozempic and I only lost 8 pounds in three months and didn’t see any changes at all. Then my insurance stop covering the Ozempic and with all the shortages they decided to change to the monjaro and since I’ve been on the Manjaro for the last two months, I’ve lost 25 pounds and a huge amount of belly fat. So yeah I do believe it’s a better type 2 diabetes medication that helps with the weight

Great video. Thanks for the details on the studies. I had a question. My HCProvider offered to list m/code me as having diabetes in order to get this drug. I’ve been PreDiabetic. (Upper range of normal since 2007). What is the down side to being listed as diabetic? Can you be included as diabetic meaning healed from diabetes? It is my understanding one cannot get this drug unless listed as Diabetic. Odd that the insurance coding is effecting health choices.

PS The upper range of normal might be “my normal” for the entirety of my life. I may never develop diabetes.

Unfortunately, Prediabetic doesn't qualify for Mounjaro at the present time. I've heard insurance companies are cracking down on off label prescriptions.

Depends on your insurance. Tons are getting covered that are not type 2. If they deny then appeal. If they deny contact HR directly and request a meeting. Your employer chooses which RX plan you get. You may just be the change breaker for your company.

It’s also has to do with with your life style changes. If you don’t change your eating habits and exercise. You will gain it all back if not more. With everything there is a risk. But why take it. If you can make all the changes now it won’t be hard to maintain
