Mt Jackson Homestead- over a 100yrs old and almost gone. There are many roads leading to Mt Jackson from the north, south, and east. We drove to Mt Jackson from the north via the Lake Barlee / Bullfinch-Evanston and Pigeon Rocks Roads from Mt Elvire Homestead. No matter which direction you come from, the drive along these roads give you a sense of the isolation the European settlers would have felt. No Aldi, petrol stations, coffee shops etc. out here, but who needs those things. Just as when travelling through the outback of our country, you need to be self sufficient. Apart from a few remnants of past settlement, signs to mine sites and the many tracks leading here and there being the only signs of "civilization" the drive takes you through this lovely country, a fair portion untouched by european settlement. If you enjoy travelling through quiet, natural landscapes you may enjoy this.
As we approached the modest little home that is Mt Jackson Homestead we were greeted by several piles of rubbish, not you normal litter of coffee cups, bottles and nappies, but old machinery parts, nuts & bolts, bicycle wheels, stoves etc. - the remnants of the Mt Jackson Homestead's past lives and owners.
Mt Jackson homestead was built in 1895 on the Mt Jackson station which was settled around 1894 in the shadow of the Mt Jackson townsite, another gold rush pop up town. Stone taken from a nearby dam was used to build the homestead. There is a small cemetery with seven people buried there however there are only two headstones standing today. Mt Jackson homestead has passed through several hands and according to the WA State Heritage Office the current owners (as 2017) are the Trurans Family who are restoring the homestead.
Mt Jackson is on the traditional lands of the Kaalamaya Kaprurn People, in Shire of Yilgarn in the eastern wheatbelt.

I like your homesteads collection, thanks for sharing them. You've given me some places to check out, i love looking around old homesteads and imagining the stories they could tell if walls could talk🚙
