Hey Ryan, I've been following your journey since your Everest summit, and I’m the same age as you. I used to struggle with finding hobbies I could truly stick to and pursue. But in the past few months, I've started climbing local mountains here in Vancouver, BC. I just wanted to thank you for shedding light on the world of mountaineering-it’s been incredibly inspiring and has really helped me find a passion. Keep doing what you’re doing!

Man I’ve done st Helen’s from both routes, and pretty much all of the cascade volcanos, but THIS… man this takes major balls, and is in a league of its own. Hugely stoked for you two. You may have just created the hardest route in the Cascades Volcanos. Even though you bailed, still a huge accomplishment. For those who don’t get how crumbly it is, if you stand on the true summit, you can basically hear a continuous rumble of landslides and avalanches. INSANE level of grit here.

I lived 3 hours from there, and when she blew, it snowed down ash like you wouldn't believe! And the day turned to night it was wild! I was 7, and I remember running in my house to tell my mom it was snowing out! She said it's May. What are you talking about? lol.

My stomach is in knots watching this. So scary! So loose! Glad you are safe!

Summitted via the standard route on 8/15. Seeing the scree fields again brought a shiver down my spine. Climb on brother!

Nice climb bro, Mt st helens is what usually introduces people to mountaineering but not for you! Did the rim traverse as a 3 day ski tour a few years ago for Christmas vacay, was totally spectacular with some spicy alpine ice climbing, seeing the crater from all vantage points was so epic. This video makes me wanna do it next summer to see it without snow. Cheers bro

Man! I thought your trip through Khumbu Icefall was sketchy. Seeing your grab onto those loose rocks hoping they don't give way was nuts. Good call cutting the trip short. Look forward to more of you adventures. Something I can't or ever will be able to do. Managed to overcome learning to walk again, and I'm happy to just walk simple trails under my own foot power. There are lots of things I'd love to do. I'll leave that to people like you.

You've gone on some crazy climbs before obviously, but the geology of this one is just so cool, the aftermath of a pretty recent explosive eruption like this and how it affected both the mountain and the area around it is super cool to see. Also neat to see the areas where life is coming/came back!! Earth's pretty neat :)

My gosh seems like the whole mountain got shaken to bits when the volcano erupted! Heard so many stories from my parents who live in eastern WA about the ash that basically covered the whole state after it went off, thanks for taking the risk to see it up close so I don't have to lol!

It is a wise choice to descend and return in time. I have climbed Mount Rinjani before, and the loose volcanic ash, sand and gravel road is too tiring and time-consuming.

I’ve done the Worm Flows winter route and that was easy compared to what you guys just did. All that loose talus/scree/rock was seriously suspect. Good choice roping up. Way to go for it and staying alive.

I always thought I wanted to trundle rocks. Turns out that when you can trundle the whole mountain it’s actually a huge pain 😅

Been wondering how the move to Washington went. Kept looking for a video to be posted while we were in the middle of hurricane Helene recovery in GA. Needed the distraction! Actually glad it posted today because we finally got good Internet restored!! Observations/Questions: Justin must have calves of steel because he spends a lot of time on his toes. Maybe you do too but I can only see his. I'm wondering if this shows the difference between rockclimbing and mountaineering. I just got sucked into the Everest videos in the spring and took a deep dive. Interesting learning what's what! How did you keep the rocks out of your shoes? Why not some kind of crampons/spikes in the loose rock for traction? Did Justin only wear gloves when he was using the rope? Why not gloves all day? I'd have to go read up on belay ropes again but don't you have to tie it to something sturdy? How did Justin trust what he roped around? Do geologists make trips up there to collect rock samples?

Been a while since I hiked Helens ('13 I believe?). I miss all the big boulder scrambling that you had to do in the middle portion. Do not miss the scree/lose gravel two steps forward one step back on the final push the crater though. That is just brutal to get through. I'd still do it again regardless of the scree because that's essentially all it is for the final push, no false summits, no ridge-line traverses, I can handle a mile feeling like two. Saw earthquake / geographical monitoring equipment which was nice to see. Not too pleased about the Johnson Ridge observatory being closed severely limits the casual goer's options for Helens.

I’ve had chomps everyday for over a year and they’re hands down the best meat stick on the market.

I free solo’d the hike up half dome this past summer so I’m extremely knowledgeable. If I had any advice for a beginner like you Ryan I’d probably say leave the rope at home next time that’ll probably slow you down too much . Also going solo can be a good idea cause others who aren’t as able as you (Justin) can hold you back … just my 2 cents

You have a gear list to overview what you use generally to climb these types of mountains? been thinking of been getting into mountain climbing a bit more.
