Yep I know LOL but Ducktales Remastered is his last significant role as Scrooge. Playing the game was like watching five or six episodes worth of dialogue.
Besides the fact they actually remade a cartoon-based game which is without precedent and figured out how to vastly improve what was already a perfect game, I STILL can't believe they managed to assemble the old cast to do the voice work all these years later. Do you guys realize Alan Young (Scrooge) and June Foray (Magica) are both almost 100!? As far as giving us fans what we want, this is probably one of the tallest orders ever filled by a game company.

Wow, I took me this long to realize that this quote was a clear Castlevania reference. When I read it, I instantly remembered the beginning to SOTN... Pretty clever.
Honestly though! I bought it on sale a few months ago and was expecting a serviceable enough soundtrack. I did not expect some of the best music ever written. Fantastic stuff!
Not to say that he can't make great music still, but this was prime Jake Kaufman. Between this, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, and Mighty Switch Force 1&2, dude was just in the zone.
Canes can actually be quite an effective weapon, given that they have to be hard and sturdy enough to support the holder's weight (if they lean on it). There's even a martial art based around it, known in French as "La canne de combat".
Mount Vesuvius theme > Moon theme Fight me. EDIT: You know what, on second thought, don’t fight me actually, idk what I was on back when I wrote this, both the Mount Vesuvius theme and the Moon theme are peak.
The level is very intense, with some tricky monsters, deadly hazards and fast sequences. The theme masterfully reflects this image of a tough struggle.
Ivan Pozdeev You can say that again. The treasures Scrooge collected would be taken to "Mt. Vesuvius", but with its pools of lava, undead skeleton warriors, chains hanging from ceilings and slavering demons, we all know it's hell. Just imagine Scrooge in hell looking for his treasures, then having "lost" them, it's possible that when he gets back home to Duckberg, he finds all of them in his mansion. That would've been quite an ending, don't you agree?
Brenda Martin No, I don't. This would be anticlimatic. The five treasures are too much to possess, even for McDuck. Plus, they are ingredients for a hellish incantation. I'd say on the contrary, it's good Scrooge saw them being spent there and kept what is truly important instead. Besides, he's far from having come out of it empty-handed - he retained all the regular gold and gems collected in the expeditions.
Indeed. Especially when you play on Extreme difficulty. You've come so far, and a fatal mistake now could erase hours of your life. This music really sets the tone.
Like months ago I decided to listen to the ost of ducktales remastered and then, I heard this masterpiece, and I decided to finally clear the game, I had left the game in mount vesuvius stage for a few years

I was checking out the NES longplay of Ducktales, alongside the PC longplay of this game. When I heard this music kick in, I went, "Wait a minute, that's not part of the NES version!" considering that you revisit Transylvania in the NES game. And I have to admit that this music, and the stage it's attached to, bring a whole lot to the table this time around, compared against the NES version. This, along with the remixed "Transylvania" and "The Moon" themes, are high up on my list of faves.
Stefano Pavone Its more appropriate since Magica De Spell actually lives on Mt. Vesuvius so it never made sense to me in the original that you would go back to Transylvania instead.
Alain Racette you don't hear me arguing, screw them and for the love of God, give both Capcom and Wayforward their due. This game was a labor of love and it shows in the witty dialogue, the wonderful graphics and the fantastic arrangements and original compositions by Jake "Virt" Kaufman. Good God did he nail everything right on the frigging money with the arrangements and with this fantastic original song he composed just for this level! I tip my hat to both of them.
I *clenches fist* love this level so much. I'm normally not a fan of fire levels because they tend to be boring and bland (I'm a huge sucker for the aesthetics in games) but between the awesome music, challenging (albeit incredibly fun) level design, cool lighting gimmick, and Glomgold's glorious sass, this is my favorite level in the game. Not to mention that the reprise of this song during the final chase sequence is a great touch.
Okay, I don't know if it's just me, but Jake tapped into a very early 90s groove beat that felt.. I don't know, very TV in a good way, right at 0:46, like this was the most thrilling episode of Ducktales and this was the final act. I don't know WHY that clicked in my brain, but it was magnificent and yet another of the hundreds of things that prove Kaufman is the MAN~! And the rest of the song kicks ass too, that crash of the gong in those first parts just feels like some big temple lit by the angry, glowing light of lava and torches!

The first time in history an NES get has been made harder than it originally was. I got this on my Kindle Fire when it was Undergrounded, and the touch controls prevented me from ever making it through that dang finwl gauntlet. But I can put that aside, this is truly an amazing theme, better than the moon theme!
@Paper Mario Fan600 I think the best way this could be in the Mario game, is if we got a super paper Mario 2, this can be the soundtrack for the boss levels in the final Chapter!
Mt. Vesuvius is an all-new level exclusively in the remastered version. In previous versions of the game, the final level was Transylvania, void of any treasures or friendly NPCs. An 8-bit screenshot and soundtrack exist because WayForward, being the video game programming geniuses they are, knew that this track would be loved by many. Likewise, the original 8-bit game is loved by many. What happens when you combine 2 things you love?
10INTM Indeed, bless the both of them for doing this, and showing that they still have it in them, their wits are as sharp as ever. Plus, Jake Kaufman's composition's? Frigging amazing! This game was totally worth the 20 bucks to get the disc, it looks gorgeous, plays just as good as the original, and is just a joy all around. This was a labour of love and it shows.
Unexpectedly, Glomgold adds to the image, being surprisingly good at collaboration and focus on result. It's clear that when it comes to business, he's as good as Scrooge.
0:10 Jake Kaufman would go on to use almost the _exact same melody_ for the Lost City in Shovel Knight. Fitting, as both are vast underground lava caverns.
I... love this theme... so much! It sounds so amazing. I could easily say that this is one of the best lava/volcano themed level themes in any video game, right up there with Adder's Lair from Sonic & All Stars Racing: Transformed.

Man, this theme is great. It really reminds me of the Clocktower theme from Shovel Knight, which makes considering that Jake Kaufman also worked on that game... ...now I want to replay Shovel Knight.
The original NES game had only the 5 stages with the treasures, so there was no Money Bin or Mount Vesuvius levels in the game. Instead once you've completed the 5 stages, you do Transylvania again, with the last boss being Dracula Duck. Funny thing is you have to visit Transylvania at least 3 times in the original game, 1st to clear the level itself, 2nd to find the key to the African Mines (not in the remaster) and 3rd to finish the game. So I'm glad they changed it up a bit.
munstermaverick I do think this track is new for the remastering though, the original didn't have this song at all. I do agree though, the song struck me as extremely "classic Capcom"-ish and could just as well had been used in some Mega Man X game :)
I bet anything this game will skyrocket in popularity when Alan Young or June Foray die. Also, i'm sure the original two (Yeah, there's a sequel.) will be worth tons.
People only truly die when nobody remembers them. They both have left long legacies that might very well exist after anybody alive today kicks the bucket.
One thing's for sure, the level theme for this stage is effin' awesome and epic! In fact, I immediately to a liking to the music after hearing it for the first time while playing the game, and the part starting @ 0:46 just made me want to dance as well! :D
i think the reason this song is stuck in my head so much is cause i kept dyeing over and over on this level to the point where the song became stuck in my mind >_
Yeah, this is very fitting: You're trecking through a somewhat dormant volcano to save your family as an old man. Oh, i forgot to mention that your an old duck who's ONLY weapon is a cane and can only jump on foes with it, or smack rocks with it. Yup. Nobody is more extreme than Mr. Mcduck.
