Oh the memories come flooding back, my daughter was 2 years old. It was so windy she kept falling down. Had to hold on to her. Going down we had to pull over to cool the brakes down. What an experience. Thanks for the memories Robert.
We took a trip up Mt Washington many years ago in the fall on a 60 degree day. By the time we arrived at the start of the cog railway it was a blizzard with 6" of snow on the ground already. We were not prepared for that kind of weather. Not much choice but drive back down. Thanks for sharing the journey. Now I see what we missed.
As an avid hiker, after the last weeks and this weeks episodes, i just added a few items on my bucket list, exactly the kind of nature I love, thank you for bringing us these insights Robert.
Robert that was some of your best work my friend. Thank you for taking us along for the ride. Simply Breathtaking. Safe Travels Amigo! Great pic with you and Your beautiful wife also. Thank you for all of your hard work.
Went to New Hampshire twice while vacationing with my parents in 1981 and 1985. At 10 years old in 81 my dad, my younger brother, and myself climbed Mt. Kearsarge, took quite a while. We also visited Ruggles Mine both times. We thought about driving up Mt. Washington but never made it there, also saw The Old Man in The Mountain, from what I've heard he finally fell even after they attempted to prop him up. I really would love to get back out there someday, although I'm way too out of shape and much older to climb Mt. Kearsarge.
I've done Mount Washington twice, once by car a few years back and then last year by Cog. I agree, both are worth doing. Got lucky both times and had excellent weather. As the video shows the road is very narrow, often just inches between your tire and the edge. It's something to look down while driving and see the tops of trees beneath you, and yes, clouds. As others have said: two bucket list items checked off. I think New England is the best region of the country. I'm biased, having grown up here. But where else has this combination of history, quaint towns, endless trees, lakes and rivers, coast lines, hills and mountains, weather and seasons. There's beauty around every corner. Sometimes I want to drive 30 mph or slower just so I have time to take more of it in.
I was just watching your Falll 2021 videos and so far this one is my top favorite. I love how you showcase the scenic road of New Hampshire and Mt. Washington is now included on my bucket list.
Hot damn! My mother and I traversed some of that when I was about 10 years old... Drove to the top of Mount Washington to retrieve my stepbrothers and stepfather who had hiked up. My recall is a little hazy, as it was incredibly foggy in that drive... But I do recall my mother white knuckling it all the way up in that old for Mercury comet !! TY!
What a deadly video (the word deadly in the indigenous culture in Australia has been appropriated to mean awesome, spectacular, brilliant)! These New England videos have been some of your best Captain Pelican. I also like the fact that you do not see everything which allows you to say "that gives us a reason to come back in the future." Awesome content!
If you enjoyed the drive and cog rail at Mt. Washington, the next time you’re traveling through Colorado, you should drive or cog rail your way up Pikes Peak just west of Colorado Springs. (I’m logged in under my wife’s name, my name is Junior not Sarah. I love watching your videos, I get up early every Sunday morning and watch your newest video before church).
Love your site Robert, you’ve got a great voice , lots of talent! I’m watching this as you are in Benson. I’ve lived in Az since I was 11, moved from Northern Ca. Maybe i’m a little biased. But I truly think that California, particularly The Sierra mountains is one of the most magnificent places in the World. Even though California is the place of my birth, I still feel that California can hold its own with anywhere in the world! when you entered az and were in such awe, i had to wonder what you were seeing that I wasn’t, I do not like the dessert really. it looks like dirt, dust and weeds, and I’m very allergic to the weeds that show up around sept. But I love watching your stuff, thanks for helping everyone see the good ole US of A!
You had a beautiful day atop the Mt. Its a gamble anytime you go to the top. Fall best odds of views. A ride to NH we take often from Maine. It is a white knuckle on the dirt section descending. Footage is really Spectacular, great job👍 The Bio diesel saved you from the coal ash smell and blowing inside. Also the weather station enployees atop yhe Mt. are snowbound for weeks at a time.
Thank You for coming back to NH and PLEASE come back soon. What a beautiful state even in winter but, I'm bias I was born here and lived my whole life here. Hello from Goffstown, NH. You can camp year-round in the White Mtn National Forest. Just keep an eye on the weather. lol
That was Berlin. The Smokestack from the former paper mill ( now a biomass plant) gave it away. Also the water tower in the upper right was either the state or federal prison. Great video! I drive by Washington at least five days a week, never been there.
Have been up Mt. Washington twice - once in a van run by a company at the base of the mountain cause I was too scared to drive it myself - and hiking up from a trail that starts at 2500 feet near the cog railway station. Like you I was lucky to have good weather both times, especially for the hike. Advice to older hikers: allow extra time for rests once you come out above tree line - for me that’s when I started to feel the effects of altitude. Some thing if you’re hiking up Mt Mitchell in NC. This year we’d like to take the cog railway.
Truly enjoy all the beautiful places the 2 of you go. Great narration and such a learning experience for the young and old God bless you both on your travels
Nice video, you hit it out of the park with this one. Really enjoyed. I was at the base of Mt. Washington in 2005 and forgot how beautiful it is in the fall. Thank you!
Great to know they are harvest host. I might sign back up again. Great coverage, I now know I can’t do the drive I panic on those trips, the train it is. Thx
Two very nice day climbs.Great views because you get above timber line in short amount of time. Hiked both mountains many times. Last time I checked Mt Monadnock was the second most climbed mountain in the world. Thanks for the memories.
Oh hi Robert , I fallow you on youtube every day from New Brunswick Canada , i love it , seen so many beautiful places in usa with you ,even when you visited OTTAWA and Quebec city , i will and always will fallow you , love it , i did go visit Clear water , St Peterburg a few times, tampa , went across and visit Fort Lauderdale , West Palm Beach , loved it .....i will continu to visit beautiful places with you , enjoing every moment of it , Thank you for you youtube chanel , and hope to see you on the road ,
I didn't know that New Hampshire has such beautiful scenery!🍁🌄🏞️🛤️And I agree with you on the "One step at a time"part 🥾in climbing mountains (like Mt Washington and the Appalachian mountains, for example)! Lots of commanding views!!⛰️Take care!🍷🍷🍽️🌺
Oh wow. The visuals are quite amazing. I've been to the Mt. Washington area before but I could never get a ticket to take the cog rail line or access the road up to the summit. My mistake was going on a weekend during the peak fall season in that region. Looks like you beat the crowds or at least went on a weekday. Anyway thanks for another great video.
Wow! My wife and I just missed you! We rode the cog up Mount Washington on 14 October! Sadly it was foggy and we couldn’t see much while up there. The day before, however, we rode the Conway Scenic Railroad, The Mountaineer, and the weather was clear as ever and we could see the top of Mt Washington from the train!
You made it to my home state! Welcome to NH. The Mt. Washington Auto Road and the Cog are something one never forgets! Also the town you mentioned is Berlin, you can tell form the smokestack of the former papermill.
Hello Traveling Robert😊😊🎸🎸🎵🎵🍔🍔🍕🍕🍕, isn't Mount Washington SPECTACULAR??!! Ohhh yeahhh😊😊😊! I have never been up the Cog Railway but have been up the Auto Road 3 times. I'm going to do the Cog Railway this summer. I can't wait to see your next video of scenic drives on the Kancamagus Highway and such beautiful waterfalls such as Sabbaday Falls and the Lower Falls area. I really enjoy covered bridges too. Amazing video footage Robert👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍!
Goooood morning Robert! Very cool to be up on top of Mt Washington with you! I really like your 360 camera work on the train. It's been 20 years since I was there and I still remember the drive down from the summit. Reminded me of a long version of Priest Grade on the way to Yosemite. Looks like you'll be visiting Franconia Notch next week? Looking forward to that!
Loved the video and seeing Ily there as well. I hiked it on July 4th 1992. It was a beautiful day! Looking forward to the kangamangus Hwy next week. Great work. 😍
Great times, beautiful place!! And, obviously as a, as two people who like to travel around ourselves a lot, I think the Earth is a beautiful place. And, we're looking forward to some new perspectives.
If you was in that area on the first week of October you should of skipped over to maine to the Fryeburgh fair. It's a nice clean fair, with lost of exhibits and shows all week long. Its usually around the first week in October. You take Rte 302 from North Conway NH to maine and it's just across the state line.
I dint recall those Vista pull outs on the mountain highway in 1996. It was all dirt road back then with several water trough for those who cars over heated. Anywho lots of changes I guess...thru the years
Magnificent and an exceptional video. Thank you. New Hampshire is magnificent in its scenery. This has been a treat. Thank you for taking us on this adventure.
I love seeing you in some of my favorite areas from my New England upbringing! I haven’t visited many of them for about five years since becoming a full time RVer. I don’t see the area much except for maybe four months when I return for doctor and dentist visits. I’ve gone up the cog three times, always the early morning steam loco. Decades ago I also climbed mount Washington.
We went up the cog railway this August and so glad we did. Especially since the autoroad was closed for a bike race (yes people have bikes too the top.. Amazing) I would also highly recommend twin mountain koa, right in the area, for families. Hope you made a trip to Chutters to see the longest candy counter in the world
Nice video and great zoom! Nice weather also! If I never get there, I've at least got to see what it's like through your video. Thank you. Now, I'm going to see what camera you used for this video.
Another great one Robert. A native of Portland, Maine always enjoys seeing his home area. I know the weather in Portland was not good. You should try to go back. They have a lot of IPA's in the Portland area. Old Port area in downtown Portland.
The locomotives were fascinating and spectacular views! Always another great video. This definitely will be added to my list. Thank you for having us with you. See you on the road. 😊🤟🏻
Nice video. Looks to be great views in all directions. Mt Washington and the cog Railway are still on my bucket list. I have been up the Pikes Peak Cog Railway.
Great video Robert. Cool to see the sailplane at the top of Mt Washington, those pilots are possibly looking for altitude gains for their gold and diamond badges and there are mtn waves that will help them achieve some very high altitudes. I'm pretty lame, I only got my Silver C badges for soaring which is not hard to do even in MN. The duration flight of 5 hours was pretty challenging though. Ok to show your wife more in the videos, she seems very nice. Take care!
Nice video Robert! In October of 1974, I flew over Dartmouth College and the White Mountains from Keene, New Hampshire. It was a very colorful autumn day just like in your video.
This and the last video of Vermont have been so amazing to watch.. none of your uploads disappoint to be honest but this is on another level …keep it up 👍🏻
Great episode! I live only 4 hours away from Mt. Washington and have never been and always wanted to visit. After watching your video I am now going to make some reservations for this summer/fall. Thank you so much for a wonderful video and for representing New England on your channel. Many don't realize how beautiful it is here.
I really liked today’s vlog. It was beautiful on the mountain. I am going to watch the video again. Have you been to Pike’s peak? I was in Colorado Springs years ago, but didn’t get to go on the railroad to the peak. I am adding Mt. Washington to my bucket list!
The steam engine draining water is about to inject water into the boiler and the fireman uses the steam pressure negative, then positive to create a vacuum and push water into the boiler. I've done this DRGW K36 steam engines as a fireman. Steam pressure is needed to engage the brakes and cog for the trip down.
Hopefully since you go off the road and hike around in off the path areas you have good tires and some extra gear incase you get stranded because of a blowout. I live by mountains and its always a place where rvs, semis and cars have very heavy blowouts
Good morning ☕️ Robert just love the video! fall is my favorite season and wow those gorgeous colors of foliage amazing what this nation offers by such mass beauty that surrounds us 🇺🇸🙏🏼
What a great video. I’ve driven up Mount Washington in my car and a couple of times on motorcycles. Great ride. Great view. Looking forward to your next episode with mountain monadnock which I’ve been up many times. Thanks again. Sam in New Hampshire.
You're lucky that it was clear on the mountaintop. I've been on Clingmans Dome in Tennessee a number of times and it was clear only a few times. You have to use the pictures they post on the top of the observatory that shows you what you would be seeing if you could see anything. 😁
One of my favorite places... These last few New England videos have brought so much joy. We watched your VT videos yet again last nt lol... Thank u & happy travels! ✌ 💘 🏕😍
The leaves are still gorgeous with color, so it's surprising and disappointing that camping season ends the day after your filming. Seems there would be a couple weeks more.
Since you say you like breweries tours and tasting differnt beers, another idea is to plan a trip series when you vist a lot of breweries or use breweries as your main destinations.
