Dopo aver lasciato la macchina nel parcheggio antistante il Rifugio Sapienza, si passa la sbarra che limita l'accesso ai solo mezzi delle funivia dell'Etna, si lascia l'asfalto e ci si immette sullo sterrato.Da qui in poi sarà solo salita con pendenze oltre il 23%, per questo si consiglia di abbassare un po' la pressione delle ruote (peraltro molto tacchettate) per avere più presa ed incidenza sul terreno.Man mano che si sale è possibile osservare i meravigliosi panorami su Catania ed il suo luccicante mare.
Dopo circa 5 km di pedalate, si arriva al capolinea degli impianti della funivia e qui il panorama si fa sempre più immenso.
Si continua a salire ed il paesaggio cambia, sembra di pedalare sulla Luna, il fondo morbido e sdrucciolevole assorbe tutte le nostre energie, ma lo scenario ripaga e dà lo spunto per proseguire.
