A quick look at the inside and outside of the MLD Duomid paired with the XL Solomid inner net tent. This video is a complement to my blog post that covers the review in greater detail, such as a full weight breakdown and more. So be sure to check that out here: cesarandthewoo...
If you want to read my trail guide and trip report that I used this shelter on for a five day section hike, you can do so here: cesarandthewood...
Note that I paid for this shelter myself and I'm not sponsored by MLD or anyone else. Feel free to ask questions or give feedback in the comments. Peace!

Really appreciate your info, and have actually made some purchases based on your reviews. Really hope to see this duomid show up in a snowy video! A non-hiking topic you may want to tackle: how americans can move to nordic countries. Not that they want us right now, but if things get weird in November, you'd get a lot of views.

Thanks for the feedback! Glad to help out. And yeah, I really want to have a snowy trip this year. Last year it was one of the warmest winters in like over 70 years IIRC, so no snowy trips. Thanks for the idea, I might do something similar, like talk about how I ended up in Sweden. Yeah, good luck in November and take care of you and yours. Things are not looking good, and I'm glad to be over hear--but feel bad for my friends and family. Peace!

Hi. Great looking tent. If the pole was shorter,would the sides be closer to the ground to prevent the gap? Stay well👍🏾🇬🇧
@CesarValdez13
@CesarValdez13 2 года назад
Hello and thanks for the comment! Yes, if it was shorter, the gap would be shorter. But the great 360 coverage that this shelter gives, the gap is not an issue (for me at least). It helps with fresh air and ventilation. Happy trails to you!

Hola Cesar, I hope you're enjoying the Duomid!!! I read you prefer to use silnylon for piramids... is this because MLD's higher quality silnylon or because silpoly's lower tear resistance? I would love a piramid shelter for Southern Patagonia (humid & windy) but I don't want to go with DCF ;)
@CesarValdez13
@CesarValdez13 3 года назад
Que paso, hombre! You got the right idea, pretty much. I got the Duomid mostly for trips to either really isolated areas or above tree line. The above tree line trips is where the tear resistance comes into play, as it can get really windy up in the fjälls here. But for tarps I prefer silpoly for a variety of reasons. Yeah, I would go for a Duomid. DCF is good too, but snow sticks to it, it's see through, bulky, plus the price are some things to think about. Happy trails!

Hola @@CesarValdez13 a couple years ago I had a tipi from Seek Outside (LBO), but it ended up being too soggy (and heavy when wet) so I went to a DCF flat tarp & inner, but I'm missing the privacy and weather protection above tree line. I love silpoly's hydrophobic capabilities (I've a Cirriform 1p tarp), but maybe I should give silnylon another chance with a Duomid ;)

Yeah, all he wants to do is sleep all day. Can't say I blame him, the way 2020 has been going! But yeah, I love this shelter. Can't wait to get out more with it. Happy trails!

This is a great review. Makes you really see the interior space….looks palatial! I’ve got one on order, would you class this as a four season shelter? I’ve bought the inner fly but a four season inner form Ali express too. Atb, Michael
@CesarValdez13
@CesarValdez13 2 года назад
Thank you for the feedback! Yeah, it's plenty of room for one. Yes, I would call this four season. Various others have used it in the winter. IIRC the first people to do a thru-hike of the PCT used a Duomid as their shelter. I've not used it yet in winter conditions yet, but would not hesitate to use it for such a trip (tho I would take the inner out). Hope yours serves you well!

so on their website there is an innernet option and a floor option, but the innernet has a floor right? so the other floor option isnt needed? the floor option would just be a 2nd floor under the innernet to protect it? im just confused and dont want to spend the extra $90 on what is basically just a ground cloth which can be bought for like $10 on other websites.
@CesarValdez13
@CesarValdez13 3 года назад
Yes, as you can see in the video, the inner net has a floor. I think what you are talking about is a bathtub floor. I guess send MLD if you have more questions?

Did you get an answer to the floor option? What do they mean by floor option to the inner.. thanks

Did you buy the inner net also from MLD? Im confused by all the options on the website, what exactly are you buying with SilNylon InnerNet (+ $165) and the SilNylon Floor (+ $90). If you add all that stuff a Zpacks Dupley is cheaper.
@CesarValdez13
@CesarValdez13 4 года назад
Hello and hope I can clear things up for you. As I mention on my blog post that goes into a detailed review (link in the description), I bought the XL solomid inner net used (but new condition) on Reddit. So I got it slightly cheaper than straight from MLD. However if you get a brand new Duomid plus an XL solomid inner from MLD right now, with shipping included it costs 455 USD (without seam sealing). The Zpacks Duplex is 599 USD with shipping included, which is 144 bucks more expensive. There are pros and cons to each shelter, price aside. I can't see myself buying a Duplex anytime soon. If I were to go back to DCF shelters, I'd probably go for the Tarp Tend Double Rainbow Li. Good luck with whatever you decide to buy, and let me know if you have any other questions.

@@CesarValdez13 Thank you that helped, but what is the SilNylon Floor or DCF Floor Option for? Is it just an expensive groundsheet? Right now i have a Tarp with a polycro groundsheet and a sarek Gear EVA pad. I used it for the first time this weekend. It was a bit hard for me as i weigh 230 pounds at 6"4, so i used another older sleeping pad with that. But the bigger problem was that i was slipping as i couldn't find anything really flat and also had to set up on grass which gets wet. Is there some trick other than not pitching up on grass and uneven terrain? I also wondered how much the groundsheet would really stop the rain that builds on the ground or flows from somewhere from entering above the groundsheet.
@CesarValdez13
@CesarValdez13 4 года назад
@@johnschmitt3083 I have the silnylon floor, and I use a polycro (plastic) groundsheet under my inner tent. I suggest you do some searches on RU-vid for videos that discuss good campsite locations, that's an important skill to have for sleeping outside. And experiment with different combos of sleep systems until you are able to sleep comfy along with having good locations for campsites. Both come with experience. Good luck and happy trails!

No, it's an XL Solo inner tent. I bought the inner used off of Reddit. I still love this tent.
