Decided to mount these two keikis rather than pot them. Reasons and choices discussed in the video.
As always, thanks for watching.

I also preferred keikies than seedlings. I have mounted one length of my anosmom on a fern wood mount. They’re already has roots grabbing on it. I hope they grow more roots before winter comes. ❤

I agree about the keikis vs. seedlings. Great video. I am dealing with some dendrobium keikis myself but I have to pot them up as I cannot do mounts….Thank you for all the valuable information Roger. It is appreciated.

You mentioned going to an air show so I thought I would tell you this. I live in Wisconsin about an hours drive from Oshkosh and the BIG EAA event. The T-28 Trojans that come fly out of our small local airport. They arrived today. It's fun to hear and watch those rumbly planes fly over the house when they practice. I've never been to the event as it cost $100.00 entrance fee.

The one I've been watching is the only one left in the UK where most of the existing military jets can be seen flying. It does cost a lot unless tickets are booked in advance - but then you don't know what the weather is going to do. Bad weather and very little would be flying.

I suggest using fishing line. Easier to use than a metal wire. If you want the roots to attach to the mount, place the roots on the mount and then the sphagnum on top of the roots. My experience is the approach leads to superior results. The sphagnum allows for more thorough water retention.

@GrowingOrchidswithRoger it would be Roger, yes. We are in what used to be the old White Hart pub 😀👍

White Hart flats. I used to live in Melbourne Road between Tesco's and the Co-op at Fairmile. I live in Burton now on the 'quite side' of the Avon.

@GrowingOrchidswithRoger yes I fish the royalty occasionally and my wife works for Burton day nursery. Yellow building on the green. Love my plants just getting into orchids as they're cat safe plants having 2 cats as well. My problem orchid was bought from Stewarts.

One of the few places where you can film jets from above. (Carole who donated loads of plants for the garden lives very close to those valleys.)

@@GrowingOrchidswithRoger I once saw two Harrier jets from above (not the mach loop) cruising a valley in southern Wales. Awesome sight

TheCorkShed.co.uk + most pet stores and Burnham's although theirs is quite expensive. And Ebay.

As an example. Dendrobium anosmum (aka pierardii), this one always bare rooted on a mount and absolutely no water in wintertime... 😅😅😅No watering takes discipline.

Hi Roger, I have a nobile orchid I bought from my local garden centre 2 years ago, it has 7 canes currently, 2 are smaller ones. It flowered earlier this year & I note you say nothing grows from a previous flower spike. Mine is busy producing a keiki from one of these old sprouts? Bizarre indeed. I'm also losing leaves, 2 so far, & 1 is yellowing. I guess the plant is stressed. I have moved it out of direct light and into the shade. More worried about the keiki from this previous flower spike. At what point do I take this off the main plant? When it grows a cane or leaves? It only has nub as yet trying to grow upwards. The roots are around 5 cms each direction at the moment.

For a Keiki to grow on quickly, it needs some roots and open leaves, Unless you want another plant the same, you can just take it off as keikis drain some energy from the mother plant. Nobile type Dendrobiums are deciduous after a few years so older canes will loose their leaves. They don't need bright light in the growing season but do need the brightest light possible during Winter along with cooler temps - this produces the most blooms.

@GrowingOrchidswithRoger I'm going to wait for the keiki to grow leaves, I think, before I do remove it. I would like another plant but want to make sure that the mother plant is strong enough before removing the keiki. Obviously, he's stressed at something, so I'm just ringing the changes at the moment to establish the cause of the yellowing leaves. As I have one cane with a couple of flower spikes in bloom whilst the others have yellowing leaves, I will wait for the blooms to go over before doing anything more and keep him on water alone until I can establish the cause as he does have nice thick, green canes at the moment.
