How long have you been doing this technique-what's the longest time test you've seen it stay securely glued? Golden tech support just told me they don't recommend it and consider it an "experimental use", that their gel medium doesn't adhere well to Yupo because of the chemical composition of the plastic and smoothness of the surface, but yours look great, have any come apart later on??
@JaneMonteith
@JaneMonteith 5 лет назад
Karen Marston yes that’s what they told me several years ago when I asked the same question. They say that because this process hasn’t been around long enough for them to judge. It takes weeks, sometimes longer, for the glue to dry because you are adhering to a non porous surface. I pulled, or tried prying a piece of artwork apart I had for 3 years as an experiment and had a hard time removing all of it. You’ll find if you try this yourself that the yupo, or polypropylene, actually pulls off in fine layers. I also resin my work so that makes it harder. Maybe I’ll do a video on it. Lol.

When you layer different pieces of Yupo on top of each other, do you still use the matte gel for that ? Do you apply it as generously as you did to the wood?

Jane, thank you so much I've been struggling trying to figure this out. One question - did you seal the yupo paper/art before you did this? I've been told I need a fixative otherwise if I put the matt medium on top of the yupo it will show streaks. Thanks for your help

Jane, I'm just loving your videos! Thank you for generously sharing your ideas and skills. You are a gifted teacher. Anyway, I was just wondering: why prime the board with GAC 100 if the next step is to mount Yupo on it? I thought that the priming was to avoid Support Induced Discoloration, but if non-pourous Yupo is in between the board and the paint/ink/etc, then I'm wondering if the step is necessary. is there another reason why you are priming the board besides to avoid SID? Anyway, thank you for your great videos. You are inspiring to me!
@JaneMonteith

Anne Livingston you’re right. You don’t have to if your covering with other material. Most times I leave the top but some people will paint the boards instead of mounting so it’s just a basic step for everyone. 👍🏼😊

Hi Jane. Love your channel. Quick question. Have you ever mounted yupo to an artist panel that has a pre gesso white surface and would I do it the same way as this?
@JaneMonteith
@JaneMonteith 5 лет назад
tammy anderson yes. You can still add GAC100 as that acts as the sealer. Gesso is a primer that prepares the surface for painting. So because I am adding yupo, to the panel gesso isn’t necessary but I still would seal it.
