Mouth Compression for Trumpet Playing 

As a professional piccolo trumpet player with many years performing and teaching experience I can state that this is a technique I teach to build range on the piccolo trumpet and one I have found to work with 100% of students. A real good vid, cheers!

As a 2 year player this tip opened up an entire new trumpet 🎺 concept that made the most sense as anything I’ve been taught, it has enhanced my trumpet playing by 100% ( actually probably saved me from looking at other instruments)...I was doing it all wrong, thx.

It took me one year of playing trumpet including 2 teachers and as worthy as both were I was still struggling searching for more defined answers to finding proper air release into the instrument...this gentleman within the length of this RU-vid production plus ten minutes alone in my music room I leaped forward maybe 5 years of searching for answers...this elite teacher turned the learning lightbulb on, yes I now understand how it works....I was very far removed from self discovery, I may have quit in due time.. but somehow I got lucky and stumbled upon this episode...it has changed my entire understanding on how to release air into my horn....I spent the following 30 minutes in my music room testing and retesting this approach, between giggling joyful sounds of exuberance plus giving high fives to my wife to my discovery I finally found answers. Yes it will take time to dial it in but yes now I finally understand why I have been over blowing, getting super tense and burning my lips out...I was going at it all wrong, this lesson is so much easier, I knew it had to be, I found it today December 19th 2018 ....thank you mysterytomastery1... please direct me to a paypal account I can send funds. 😇

i remember my whole body shaking trying to play a loud high c ouch! ...been trying a different approach to higher register playing and indeed my notes starting to come out like high soft squeaks(high c, d, and even airy E) the idea is there. hopefully they will become real notes in due times

@groovesmerchant78 circular breathing is done quite simpily. As you play a g in the staff puffing out you cheeks allows air post your throat. As the cheeks remain puffed (at the same time) breath in through your nose and contract the muscles in your cheeks pushing the remanning air in your oral cavity which expels air into your horn while out are breathing. I would recommend practicing this before you start on the horn. If you want, later on today I will make a video of basic concepts of circular breathing. I will admit I am not an expert at circular breathing since I do not practice it but I understand the idea. Or my idea behind the topic.

My teacher was trying to explain this concept to me today but i'm still having trouble articulating past a b flat above the staff. Would you say there is a certain register you should start from when trying this or is it ok to start from even a g above the staff?

You're spitting air at 3:20 looks similar to what Miles Davis describes in an interview "as if spitting peas" (I paraphrase). I can't work out the role of the tongue though.

How much compression is necessary and how much compression is too much to play the high notes? I am a beginner and when I practice to play high notes, I start sweating after 15 minutes or so and I have to activate the air conditioner.

Mate, he is trying to convey the techniques that work for him. They may nor work for you, put your big head elsewhere.

It sounds like you are trying to doing a form of Caruso techniques - but I believe you are very mistaken in some of the ideas you are trying to get across. I would not recommend your ideas! Sorry, that is my opinion!
