I found the perfect little park for for over night stealth camping only to have my morning interrupted by an angry local that did not want me there.

To be fair. That wasn't the best place to park a van overnight. I though that stealth camping was about being discreet and stopping out of the way. Not right in front of the locals faces, on their beach!

We camped a lot when I was growing up. Mom and Dad always made us walk the area and pickup any trash we found. When we asked why they always said the same thing “You should always leave a place better than when you came”. Thanks for being such a good example.

No overnight camping. Doesn’t say unless you pick up a bag of rubbish. I can’t see why you would want to park somewhere that is going to upset people living there. Perhaps this is why more and more signs are going up. I don’t feel the locals need to justify why you can’t stay overnight.

The guy with the dogs lives just up the road, has lived in West Cornwall for well over 20 years and puts far more into any community than anyone else i know. Everyone wants to camp on a beach in their campervan (myself included) and so if it was allowed, the place would be wall to wall campervans. There's no camping for a good reason. Bloke camping decided to risk it and rightly got called out, can't really complain and sticking this blokes image up on RU-vid isn't really on.

If there are no camping signs on show then it's no wonder that any locals would have a go at you and it wouldn't matter how nice you are. To say that the locals are missing a trick by not charging campers to stay on the beach is missing the point of why people live in a place like that. They couldn't careless about any monetary gain, they just want peace and freedom from the masses.

He knew about the signs, then argued when confronted. Why should the rules have to be changed to his liking? Just go somewhere else. Geeze. The entitlement! @@LoveSundays at what point in the video did you say this was a protest against 2nd homes? was anything on your van visible to the locals stating this? Many years ago there were very few regulations and laws. The regulations only turn up to limit bad behaviour. There is no way to explain my attitude in full, but briefly Human nature fits better with the carrot than the stick. Reward good behaviour. People who "leave no trace" (or better, leave it better than when they arrived), morally speaking, are part of the solution, not part of the problem. But the letter of the law too often takes precedence of the spirit of it. Regulations and laws are bad at telling the difference, up until you get before a judge and jury, which is too expensive to be practical.

Just because there is a suitable place to stop doesn not entitle you to stop there. Often someone has moved there and attempted to enclose land/beaches thus denying other use so locals have had to challenge and then correct the ownership. I am sick of people saying what others SHOULD do with their property - as in have a camper site, allow fires, allow dogs, etc.

They shouldn't charge people to stay overnight there because those type of situations ruin the landscape. I grew up and I'm from Seattle Washington, and the increase of urban campers has destroyed our local beaches, it's polluted our waterways, and now a glacial lake that I grew up next to called bitter lake is completely and usable because of the camping that has taken place. The campers urinated and defecated into the lake, which is small, and it caused a whole bunch of algae bloom and that has killed off all the local fish, the entire West portion of the park has been partitioned and fenced off permanently until they go through a complete bio overhaul which includes soil removal, soil replacement, replacement of native plants that were destroyed, replacement of anti-erosion landscaping, it's just a huge mess. And it's costing millions.

I'm Cornish, campers bring in good money for pubs and local shops. perhaps more than holiday home owners. They buy food and provisions, meals, gas and diesel locally as a rule. I'm sure a lot more campers would use the numerous 10.00 overnight pitches if they knew where there were in the first place. Where I live we turn a blind eye because there have never been too many in the same spots at the same time. Maybe it's just the Doggers objecting 🤣

I’m afraid the balance has been tipped now. Here in north Wales there are vans everywhere now. Signs are ignored, rubbish dumped and most of us locals have found human shit. Van owners stay for free, bring all their own food and contribute little or nothing to the local economy. The roads they travel on, the A&E departments they use, the paths on the mountains that are maintained - they all cost money. Meanwhile local campsites are losing trade. If you want people to stop getting pissed off then put your hand in your pocket and stop freeloading. I say this as a camper and lover of the outdoors.

With all respect being an ex copper isn’t the be all. He was in the wrong, period. That isn’t justified because he tied up yet another local in an entitled conversation. Can they not just enjoy their morning walk, in their home area without having to debate camping yet again. The sign says no camping and there’s a campsite up the road.

@@christinedunn5709 What you need to understand is that anyone can put up a sign saying whatever they want (within reason), but it’s the law that determines whether something is lawful or not. In my experience, most people are ignorant of the law and operate upon assumptions. If someone is making claims, he needs to be able to quote the relevant law, or he’s better off just minding his own business. I spent years in the military, and did all sorts of specialist security work afterwards. In all that time I never approached anyone with an attitude like that bloke did. At one time I also had to handle some of the most dangerous and nasty dogs you’ve ever seen (Not my choice), until one started reacting badly to children!! I didn’t even make a fuss over that. I just parked the thing in the boss’s office and quit. Some people like to cause drama. Others invite it. My experience is that if you treat people as you’d expect to be treated yourself (The Golden Rule), most people are good. Gypsies, Muslim gangs, drunks, dangerous psychopaths - all part of life’s rich pageant. One day I met a former enemy at an exhibition centre in London. The world turns. Peace 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Think the villagers/owners have a bit of a dichotomy. On one hand they'd like cash donations for the 'upkeep' (therefore welcoming daytime parking?) but for some reason they view some of these same people who have donated to park as unwelcome, messy louts after dusk - all because they own a van (not a car) & have slept in it for a few hours. It's ludicrous. Cars often bring a multitude of different types of visitor to these places - some leaving rubbish and some being loud and unsociable - just because they don't stay the night in a van doesn't make them a 'better customer'.....but they'll take their 'donations' thank you very much & not direct them to leave 🤷 Wonder if things will change for the better over the coming years for people out and about in their vans 🤞🏼

Hello from Canada! We have the same issues here with people who misuse the free overnight spots and as a result paint all of us with the same brush. Walmart is one example. We used to be able to travel, stay overnight at a Walmart, purchase a few items and move on. Now, in Canada, most Walmarts do not allow overnighters because of the 'users' (and by that I mean people who think the world owes them a free ride, and they don't have to do anything aside from existing to deserve it!) who move in to the local Walmart and set up permanently, making a mess and an eyesore for the tax paying locals. It has made traveling in Canada a little more difficult for those of us who do obey the rules and don't take without giving back. When we are down south in the US, Walmarts that allow overnighters are much more plentiful, which we greatly appreciate. The whole spending the night inside your vehicle and not creating a mess or a disturbance should be a no-brainer. But there are enough 'users' who have made it an issue that signs are posted and security hired to control it. It's a sad situation all over the world. Enough of my rant! I loved your video and am a new subscriber! One day, I hope to do a trip over the pond and rent a caravan to do some road trips in the UK! Take care!-Sue

I can truly understand the locals not wanting the area to be spoiled and littered, I have seen it too many times and it’s not always people camping that have left litter. Hi 'Love Sundays' I am not quite sure what to make of this video. I am glad you kept things calm with the local chap with the dogs....that could have turned a bit messy. I did a lot of wild camping and camper vanning and you need to respect the locals.......you ignored the 'No overnight camping' sign ......why 😅 Anyway...take care.....and stop drinking the "Non Alcoholic" beer as it seems to effect your choice of parking😊

You don't need to respect any dickheads that come after you. 😂

I'm a motorcyclist in Wales and we have the same problem when we travel. People assume you're not a good person but they are always glad when we spend money in the area 😂😂

I dont understand why people think its their job to enforce roles. The car park was massive and there was no issues

i remember a sign which said " Arbeit macht frei ([ˈaʁbaɪt ˈmaxt ˈfʁaɪ]) is a German phrase meaning "Work sets you free" or "Work makes one free". The slogan originates from a 1873 novel by Lorenz Diefenbach. It is known for appearing on the entrance of Auschwitz and other Nazi concentration camps" rules are made by tyrants and rules are made to be broken ! in my humble opinion !!

Probably because there are just as many who think they can break them 🤷‍♂️

There are lot of issues with that particular car park, which is why I won't park on it.
