One thing that concerns me while trying to decide if I should move from Ontario to New Brunswick is the health care system. It is supposedly not quite as good as in Ontario. What is your experience? Did you have problems finding a family doctor? How about hospitals (emergency care), and dentists? I guess since you are quite young, this is not so much on your radar, but I am asking anyway... @@cloudchaser966 Yes, to be honest you were correct in the last part. We haven't even tried to seek a family doctor. Last year around this time I had to visit the ER when I separated my shoulder. I waited a few hours before seeing a doctor which aligned with what I expected. An injury of that nature is not an emergency even though it felt that way from my perspective. In reality it is not and people who needed to see the doctor immediately were moved ahead of me in the queue. I believe the health care system here resembles the Ontario system unless you are living in Toronto were specialized care is more abundant. Overall I would say self advocacy may plan a role here in getting immediate care as well as resourcefulness. Being proactive in maintaining our own health is also largely overlooked.
Thank you for your videos. You mentioned that you left Toronto because of house prices. Knowing what you know today would you still make the move if having a house in GTA wasn’t the issue? Our family is thinking about moving there to reduce our mortgage but mainly to be in a less stressful and safe environment. Can you focus in quality of education and healthcare?? You folks, along with We Love Saint John helped us make the decision to move. We bought in Rothesay (took possession Sept. 29th, but we didn't arrive until Oct 19th due to major truck issues side tracking us twice during our drive from BC via the US - turned it into a quick sightseeing trip too). It colder than I thought (knew it would be), but we have a wood stove, great neighbors, everyone seems friendly and talkative here. The friendships will take awhile (I have joined 2 groups, so working on that). I love how things are at a much slower pace! No regrets! I am semi retired, while hubby has 2 jobs, and we are a diverse couple with no problems fitting in. Hubby is hoping to find an artist community (painting canvasses mostly) here for him to thrive and grow. He does miss that! Thanks for the perspective you provide!
Oh wow that's awesome! Sounds like you guys are making out great. You guys should check out ART BATTLE. It's an event where local artists paint on canvas live and kind of compete to go onto the next round. The event comes back in a couple months. I'm sure you can find more info through Google!
Great answers in this one! I'm originally from Northern Manitoba but spent seven years in Cornwall, Ontario before moving to Saint John 25 years ago. You're right, it's getting more diverse here and that's a great thing. The influx of Chinese, Koreans, Syrians and most recently Ukrainians among many other groups has only improved the region. It's been a huge benefit for everyone who lives here.

Hey Guys, thanks for taking my question, I was question #2 that you answered. We are in the Niagara Region and have owned for many years here in Niagara, but previous to that I've owned a house in Toronto since 2004. The housing prices are certainly enticing but from what I have learned, it looks like the day to day costs may be a bit more out there....food, utilities....etc. We still haven't pulled the trigger on the move as my transfer fell through. The option is still there but we're so on the fence as all of our friends and family are here, and they are honestly the only reason we are still on the fence. Anyway, great video and thanks for answering my question.
Hey guys thanks for the video. We moved from Ontario over a year ago to the Kingston Peninsula outside of Saint John. There are definitely alot of things that I love about living here and you definitely have to put yourself out there to find people. One thing that I would mention is the education system here for school age children. I have one in highschool, one in middle school and one in elementary school. It is very different then Ontario and there are some things family should consider if that matters to them. But my children have had no problem fitting in and finding friends and we like the schools they're attending. We think the more layed back education puts less stress on them and let's them be kids. My kids would be very sad if we had to move back to Ontario they love it here and the adjustment back would be difficult.

My wife and I are in Kimberley BC, patiently renting. The best options for homes are definitely east coast and St. John is on our list for a possibility. I am still hoping to see a housing bubble pop, because I love living in mountainous regions. Unfortunately the warmest places with mountains are west coast and prices here become more expensive the closer you get to Whistler and Vancouver. Alberta Saskatchewan and Manitoba are too cold for my taste. I tried Montreal before, but big cities and Quebec's winters are also not for me. I also lived in places near Queen Charlotte Islands and Vancouver Island, which is gorgeous but expensive or run down. I can find a nice place in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, cheaper than I can find a mobile dump with a pad rental fee, here in BC. Even vacant land here has been outrageously over priced and this is coming from someone who has a well paid professional in our household, no kids and very little debt.
Ah yes, New Brunswick has some hilly/mountainous areas. Nothing like BC/Alberta but large enough to feel something from them! I wouldn't hold your breath on a housing bubble pop. They have been saying that for decades and it is not possible to time it. The cheapest time to buy in those places that you desire is right now, in the years to come the current prices will seem like massive discounts. Atlantic Canada has much to offer for the middle and lower classes...at the current moment.
Make sure you have a good income, as taxes, groceries, and utilities here are higher than in BC. Unfortunately you do not have a home in BC let alone one paid for. If you did have a home paid for in BC, you will have more disposable income than in NB owning a home. But if you are going to have a mortgage, it will be smaller in NB for sure, but keep in mind no home owners grant here, just a different tax rate if you live in your home. Also if you have medical needs, this is not the place to be, as access to primary healthcare is not as good as BC.
Yes, there are bad neighbourhoods, but mostly petty crime or just bad air pollution, i.e., being in the path of moving air from the pulp mill or oil refinery.

Hi, I’m a Filipino, who’s been staying in Dubai for 12years, me and my wife has a chance to move in Campbellton, NB. This is a turning point in our lives that we will be prioritizing the togetherness of our small family as we are separated as i work here in Dubai and my wife and daughter are in Manila. The biggest challenge in my mind is to start from scratch and trying to build everything from zero in terms of house, to career, to family and friends but in a slower phase as like what you guys mentioned that it’s what NB what’s to offer. Have you had that same thoughts before moving in NB?
Yes I can related. Came out here to start from scratch as well. Having a skill that you can offer immediately would be very handy. It will allow you to find work quicker, or even before you arrive. I would suggest keeping things as simple as possible with a move across the world like what you would be doing. Unless you have great building skills, find a home that doesn't require much maintenance or renovations. If you are open to putting yourself out there you can make friends quickly and easily. As I mentioned in the video, joining a team or a club is a great way to make connections. But ultimately it will be a great adventure. If you and your family are connected and on the same page any obstacles you encounter will feel trivial. Of course we hope for a smooth and easy transition but it's often never the case. Embrace the challenges because it is never really a true adventure until something goes wrong :)

My husband and I have been going back and forth with the idea of moving from the West Coast to the East Coast ever since we were quarantined for 2 weeks at the beginning of the pandemic. We are super intrigued with the idea that we could sell our townhome here and buy a single family home over there and finally be mortgage-free! How is the job market over there in NB? Does anyone have any insight?
What about some videos on finding work there based on different sectors. White collar versus blue collar? Different sectors within each such as tech jobs, construction jobs, or any other area that is looking for labor. People want to know there will be work there before they move there. What are typical salaries in different sectors? How does that compare to the cost of living. Would moving result in an upgrade or down grade in quality of life.
Good questions. You need to know the wages well before coming. Plus know the overall proportion of renter household income spent on rent and utilities in NB, which can be higher in Fredericton, Saint John, and Moncton than some equivalent size places in BC and Ontario where there are better jobs with better pay and benefits. I was surprised to learn from some electricians on a construction site made about the same I did in the early 90s as a part-time dry-waller in BC. As for quality of life, it depends on what you want and need.
hello Jess & Owen I am thinking of moving to new Brunswick maybe sometime next year when i I have eno0ugh money save i am going to be 60 yrs young next summer I was in the islands and i would like to retire near the beach and i am thinking of either saint johns or Moncton and I know that Fredericton seems like that might be more expensive and also, as I don't drive how easy is to adapt to the mellow city life of saint johns what iI am worried about is find work and the i am sure that moving just have enough money so i can survive on I would say for about 6-8 months but my biggest problem is finding a job whenever I get the , if I choose saint johns what part is the best part of the to live
Canada is a difficult place to be if you don’t drive. Our cities are designed for cars and public transit is not great outside of the major cities. Also difficult to use a bike if that’s your thing. People are not used to cyclists and are hostile towards them sadly. The downtowns or major cities are an exception here. There are many small towns that have beaches but not having a car would be challenging!

Make sure you research the province thoroughly. You need a very good income as a senior here even if your home is paid for as taxes, groceries, and utilities are very high in cost. Also not much benefits or tax breaks for seniors like we see elsewhere in other provinces.
I suppose that would depend on a persons experience and skill set. There are a few industrial industry main offices here in SJ. Fredericton would be more white collar than here though. But if youre interested in that type of work I’d suggest hunting for remote jobs. Tech industry would be good for this as they are more progressive and remote working is completely normalized as compared to legacy institutions likes banks, gov, etc

I've many different questions such as What are the house prices now in New Brunswick after the pandemic, can buy the house in Saint John as yours under 100k ? Are there job opportunities in food and beverage industry ? Is Saint John, New Brunswick a diverse place for Muslims and is there Muslim community and Mosques? Hi Faizan! I can answer a few of your questions: - I believe house prices on average are somewhere around $284 000 in Saint John now, which is much high than when we moved (during pandemic). - I don't believe you could find a house like ours at the price we paid. I think a house like ours is $150 000 - $200 000 now! There are still affordable homes but you may have to look in smaller cities that are close by. - There are many job opportunities. I do tell people though that the more skills you have to offer, the more opportunities there are. If you are motivated, enthusiastic, work hard, and have a positive attitude, there will be many opportunities in many different areas. - I'm not sure about the Muslim community but if I had to guess I would say yes there is one. Maybe small, but in Canada there are people of all faiths in all places. I would suggest researching groups on Facebook? Bigger cities like Toronto/Montreal/Vancouver/ or even Halifax would have larger communities no question. New Brunswick is not as diverse as other provinces. It's changing especially with people like yourself moving here :) - I'm also not sure about Halal products. You could always go veggie :P

But mainly Jess’s belly and the woodstove 🤣🫶🏽 One thing I know about moving places (been here 1.5 years now) is that, from a personal development perspective) we take our weather with us. Moving doesn’t always “fix” if that’s what you’re hoping, you will still tackle similar challenges in different ways to learn the lessons you need to learn. Also…there is so much going on I find and like you said…if you look for it, take initiative, network and connect it is totally here ♥️
@@atribecalledowens single mom with 4 kids. Bid on a few houses that I did not get. I couldn't visit during the pandemic. I had to move because my lease was up here in Toronto, but found a nice place. Finally visited summer '22, but by then we were already settled and half the kids didn't like it. Sometimes I still think about it...
We came to NB primarily to help out family and to be somewhere with less people during covid for safety reasons. Now that one of us is a senior, it is much cheaper for us to live back in BC even as renters or owning a condo. Combining the tax savings, utility savings, grocery savings, and our BC senior supplement that goes on top of our GIS; will put an extra 1200 dollars a month in our pockets; that adds up. We have already secured a family doctor for each of us, and nice apt until we decide to buy. We have been in NB for over two years and the access to primary health care has been not good and we still don't have a family doctor. We so look forward to leaving NB this year. BTW, I was born and raised in NB, and never liked it or what it had to offer.
