Why doesn't the Council do something about the disgusting state of the Majestic ?

Hi Chris - I worked for local councils at the seaside for summer seasons and inland for Christmas pantomimes. I certainly nearer worked-out how their minds worked! - PAUL

I remember in the the1940s: Majestic (Kings St ) the best, (then the Regal and the Super, (New Road) and the much smaller Plaza (Windmill St) Happy DAYS. NO DRUGS, KNIVES ETC

My memories of Gravesend are my three pantomime seasons at the Woodville Halls Theatre, and Ted's Cafe on the hill down to the river for lunches and teas! Very pleasant staying at the Sunnyside Guest House and working in the orchestra pit with pianist/MD Vince Crowley and drummer Jimmy Clark - Happy Days! PAUL.

The Regal used to have a Saturday morning minors program - usually a couple of B cowboy pictures if I remember. But only after we all had to sing 'Who's the leader of the club that's made for you and me ? M I C, K E Y, M O U S E !

Happy Days Neil. Thank You for commenting and sharing your memories. I spent three seasons at the Woodville Halls Theatre accompanying the annual pantomime produced by Jerry Jerome. @@ComptonLodgeStudios cheers Paul Yer my friend Chris Fagg has worked at the Woodville Halls for years you may have met him. Gravesend used to be a fun place for a night out. Not any more unfortunately it’s not a place to be walking about by yourself at night, which is so sad Take care stay safe

Kent had some fine cinemas once. This been one of them and often popular too by its customers. I enjoyed living in Kent and loved its cinema scene . Film going at its once best. friends I know there say it's not the same now like it once was and it's movie experience too.

Remember going to the first one (which I think was the last one to close in Gravesend although they do films at the Woodville Halls now). Was a proper cinema event was sad to see it close and ofc now burnt down?

yep all gone, the first one became fishers hairdressing from the 50s and still in business (using the rear down the side alley shown on the gate, the front being a betting shop. yes the abc/cannon is a front only , the entire building is gone and burned down, it had its last life as some church cult selling oils. the other 2, the buildings still there, one a bingo hall (or till recently was) , the other had various lives , but is now seems to be four shops on the front, the main part of the building may exist as its bones or may have gone in rebuild entirely, but is reminiscent of its older looks.

Didn't know that about Fishers (that's where I use to get my hair cut as a kid). The Bingo Hall one makes sense (would that be near Tesco?). A lot of old cinemas seems to become them.

An abiding memory of going with a mate on a weekday afternoon (we were down from college) to see Blazing Saddles at the Majestic(must have been just before it was sold off) There was us and about 10 pensioners in the whole theatre & it seems we were the only ones to find it all pretty funny, & not just 'Any more beans, boss?' 'I think you've had quite enough !'
