Probably not a pig but a tapir, which can get as heavy as 700 lbs. Pigs were introduced by the Spanish as they were brought over from Europe to use as food. Some escaped into the wilds and that's how wild pigs became part of American wildlife. 😮

The Spanish destroyed the books of the Maya believing they were the work of Satan. Five of the books survived. We know that they were great mathematicians and had a calendar that was extremely accurate. They could also predict celestial events like solar and lunar eclipses.

I'm sure only the elites were allowed to learn about those topics to exploit the masses. I also don't know which tribes were the most atrocious-the Aztecs or the Plains Indians. Also, maybe those 5 books were the only books that didn't talk about gore, the occult, or other obscene subjects lol.
@mikealvarez2322
@mikealvarez2322 6 дней назад
@@RubenDReyna You are right about the elites being the only ones with the knowledge to predict celestial events, and this knowledge was used to control the masses. The Aztec sacrificed over 50,000 people in 3 days. I would put them at number 1 on the scale of inflicting sheer terror on their neighbors. They had an unusual way of selecting war leaders. The men would gather at the temple of warriors naked each with a needle and push the needle through their penises until they passed out. The last man standing was their war leader. I spent a week in the Yucatan and another week in Mexico City visiting friends. I talked with historians with expertise on these civilizations and purchased several books for my library. When I was in the Yucatan a Mayan took me to a huge cave where his ancestors hid from the Spaniards. The cave was an archeological site so we were limited to certain areas. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I assure you that if I had been a Mayan warrior I would have been happy to be a private.😊

When Cortes arrived he burned his ships so there was no return. He and his soldiers numbered about 300 and although they were out numbered 10,000 to 1 they were able to walk into the heart of that empire. Unbeknowst to them dressed in their black apparel, the Mayans thought the Spainards were a fulfilment of a prophecy of an earlier priest who was against human sacrifice was returning as he said he would. The Spainards were housed across the street from the pyramid watched and heard the human sacrifices as they happened. On the other side of the pyramid they could hear animals wailing because they knew their breakfast of human torsos would soon be coming to feed them.

The areas were the Mayans lived depended on rain for their water. They had well like structures that would hold water during the dry season. They sacrificed to their gods especially the rain god. The Aztecs were the champions of sacrifices since it is believed that over 50,000 captives were killed over a 3 day period. 😮 Slavery was common in the Americas before Columbus just like it was all over the world.😮

Imo, it highlights why it's really hard to judge people in different historical times and eras too. Slavery is anathema in our modern world and has been for over 100 years. Yes, it still exists in different places, but we are shocked, saddened, outraged, etc, when we hear of some persons or people trapped in it. Throughout most of human history, they wouldn't have been shocked and it would have been the norm that people were enslaved. Were the Romans, the Egyptians, whomever "evil" for having had slaves? Probably not. They were men and women of their time period and geographic location, likely both good and bad, just living their lives according to the values of their time. We hold certain values, mores and morals, in common, just like they did. Some later generation may judge us harshly, for something normal to us.

Hi Emma, I will summarize a little about the history of the Mayans. Our ancestors, the Mayans, had this belief that certain gods had a common purpose, and each god was a different veneration, the reasons why they sacrificed people. The Mayans sacrificed humans, as a way of offering to their gods, and obtain their favor: So that it rains, So that the crops are fertile, To win the war, To appease the gods in case of droughts or epidemics. The sacrifices were supervised by priests and were part of a very important religious activity for the Mayans. Kukulcán is a god highly revered by the Mayans, and many powers over the earthly world are attributed to him. He is considered a creator and bearer god of rain and winds. He is also related to wisdom and intelligence, and it is believed that he provided the world with it. In Mayan mythology, Kukulcán is associated with the creation of the universe and corn. He is represented with objects and animals that symbolize the four elements necessary for life: earth, water, air and fire. In Chichén Itzá, a large temple was built in honor of Kukulcán, known as the Temple of Kukulcán or Kukulcán pyramid. This monument symbolizes the Mayan solar calendar, and is considered one of the seven wonders of the modern world. The Spanish ships, at the end of the movie, were an expedition, by the men of the general, Hernan Cortez. Greetings from México.

The Spanish eventually conquered the Aztec and what was left of Mayan civilization, after the collapse 500 years before, with the aid of thousands of native troops. These natives probably allied with the Spanish to defeat their tormenters.

@ablacklakeawhitelake
@ablacklakeawhitelake 8 дней назад
Not probably, it´s a known fact. 99% of the troops were natives. They allied with the spaniards to put and end to imperialism and slavery by the aztecs and mayans (mayans had already collapsed for the most part). Interracial marriage was legalized in the begining of the 16th century, slavery was banned because spaniards were catholics and believed all men were God´s sons, natives were declared spanish citizens with the same rights as the european spaniards, cities, universities, hospitals were created, 80% of the natural resources extracted stayed in the territories of New Spain (America is a made up word created by the protestants in order to erase Spain from the discovery of the new world), native languages were studied and preserved by the universities, and both civilizations mixed genetically and culturally, unlike what happened in North America. This is the truth, everything else is protestant anglo-saxon propaganda.
@mikealvarez2322
@mikealvarez2322 8 дней назад
@@ablacklakeawhitelake Where did you learn your history? The Spanish plundered the New World and re-established the feudal system that was dying in Europe. The nobility that was left out of Papa's estate (younger male siblings) come to the New World to establish their estates. This is why the more European your background the better off you are in Mexico and other Latin American countries. Look at their presidents and other leaders, they are for the most part of European descent. The indigenous people make up the poorer classes. Give me a break. I studied this at the University of Florida before professors became agents of Anti-American / Communist propaganda. Some of what I have said has begun to change very slowly. Much of this change is due to many of Latin America's poor (read mostly the brown people) coming to the US and earning enough to build wealth and either send money home or go back with enough cash to set up a business back home. I am as fluent in Spanish as I am in English. I was an independent contractor after retiring from teaching and I have worked with dozens of these people. I have traveled in Central America so my knowledge comes from books and experience. All you're doing is spreading what you learned in a college course somewhere.
@mikealvarez2322
@mikealvarez2322 8 дней назад
@@ablacklakeawhitelake You really need to get your facts straight. You are 100% wrong regarding slavery South of the US border. The Spanish not only held slaves but we're one of the primary slave traders in the Americas. Slavery was abolished in Latin America as each nation gained its independence from Spain. So by the first quarter of the 19th Century most countries had abolished slavery. As for interracial marriages, they were a taboo and still are in most Spanish speaking countries. That's not to say there isn't interracial sex, just not marriage. There is an old Spanish tradition called, "la casa grande y la casa chica." La casa grande is your married life while la casa chica is where you have your mistress and her kids. Racism is alive and well in most Latin American countries. The upper classes run most big businesses. Your low wage workers are mostly the sons and daughters of indigenous / African heritage people.
@ablacklakeawhitelake
@ablacklakeawhitelake 8 дней назад
@@mikealvarez2322 You´re wrong about everything you wrote on your comment. Everything I explained is in the national archives of the spanish crown, so old sayings are really worthless. Slavery existed in "America" before the spaniards arrived, they ended it. Interracial marriage was not only NOT a taboo, it was ENCOURAGED by the monarchy and the catholic church, and the proof is all the mestizo population of ex-spanish territories. Even Hernan Cortes married a native woman, for God´s sake, your ignorance is hilarious. If interracial marriage is a taboo and racism is a thing nowadays, as you say, that´s on you, not on spaniards. If the low income workers are the indigenous today, that´s also on you, not on the spaniards.

What happened next was Cortez and the Spanish conquest of Mexico. In terms of cinema, however, a good follow up would be Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972), an epic historical drama directed by Werner Herzog and starring Klaus Kinski in the title role of Spanish soldier Lope de Aguirre, who leads a group of conquistadores down the Amazon River in South America in search of the legendary city of gold, El Dorado.

Aguirre is a nutty movie. Ive seen it twice and still havent recovered. Kinski famously threatened to kill Herzog on an almost daily basis on set. Herzog grew so concerned about his former flatmate’s threats that he eventually had a full security team around him on set to keep Kinski away from him. The story of the making of Aguirre is as epically crazy as the movie itself.

Some examples There were several factions of Mayan priests, two large ones at war with each other were the followers of Chac-Mool, who was offered human sacrifices and Kukulkan, who prohibited human sacrifices. (You can google the images of Chac-Mool, kind of leaning on his back with a place or a plate in his belly where the sacrifices were placed. The description of the ceremony matches better with the Aztec (many, many miles away) custom of extracting the heart of the sacrificed victim and showing them to them while still beating. Mayans did not have bow and arrows, they used a different ingenious way to throw out projectiles.

Very unique movie. Based on a scale of 0-5, based on the movie. I give it 3.5 out of 5 games of “Mayan head bowling.”

The Spanish Christians did not appreciate the blood, human sacrifice, and cannibalism. They wiped it away. So sad they destroyed so much in the process, endless books and artifacts. The gold artwork was all melted down to ingots.

So they didn't like bloodshed, so they did their own version of bloodshed, cool .

Remember the little sick girl was warning them about the one that would "blacken the sky?" That's why they didn't sacrifice him. They believed it was a sigh of the gods to end the sacrifices.

This was Mel Gibson's "redemption" movie after being recorded spouting off on a racist rant. He had to show he was capable of better, and succeeded. Hollywood doesn't make movies like this, in indigenous languages with subtitles, and with a good enough budget to have great visual scenes.
