Tyler wasn't depressed and didn't want to die, he thought he, as a knowledgeable fan, would be exempt from it all. He thought he was going to live. I mean, in a way, all movies are social commentary in a way. :P I love that Erin's experience as a sex worker gives her the skills to basically dom her way through a role play and make Slowik let her go, she provided him with an experience, the joy of cooking a simple meal, and he should provide the compensation, her life. And she managed to get there without breaking the script of the evening, or the little scene she created.

Ahh yeah Tyler's plot definitely escaped me a bit. But yeah that entire cheeseburger scene at the end there was just so good!
@jennv2948
@jennv2948 Год назад
I don’t know that he thought he was going to live, just that he wanted the “experience of a lifetime” so badly that he was willing to pay literally any price.

Ralph Fiennes and Hong Chau are the MVPs.

They were awesome!

I'd also add Anya Taylor-Joy to that as well; all three of them were AMAZING! Hong Chau, though... unsung hero in this movie.

the female chef that stabbed Chef in the leg was always a bit interesting to me...and I realized one day watching another reactor that it's the same spot where Chef stabbed his abusive father when he was choking out his mom. Man's Folly...that symbolism is fantastic.

Not washing him self nor the leeks that should be gently on a low heat, not peeling the shallots and cutting them all mismatched, too much butter that burnt, no wine or any seasoning, and undercooked. yeah he needed to die for that lol. I'm not a master chef, but I saw the pain Chef had as much as I did. Good stuff. Subscribed

Imagine Tyler's ex being the SMART one by not only breaking up with him but also saving her own life. That's wild to think about!
@SeanStrife
@SeanStrife Год назад
I like to think the ex is what Emma Stone's character was originally supposed to be; she was cast to be in the role Anya Taylor-Joy played, but was also supposed to be Tyler's WIFE as opposed to what she is in the finished product.

If you liked this film, you'd love 1989's _The Cook, the Thief, his Wife and Her Lover._ The ever-changing color palettes and beautiful/horrendous story told is stunning. Oh and the ending is something you'll NEVER forget. Anyone reading this who's seen this masterpiece can attest.

@@danielafernandamorales493 Right?? I was newly-married twenty-eight-year-old with my first wife when I saw this at the theater nearly 35 years ago. I remember she and I stumbling from the theater hanging on each other when the movie was over 😆. Although I've only seen it once so long ago I can still almost remember the entire film LOL

John Leguizamos character was supposed to be played by Daniel Radcliffe playing an exaggerated version of himself. But he wasnt available. Johns performance was based off of Steven Segal.

The most horrifying thing about this movie is that I was watching all those people burn, and all I could think about was how much I wanted that cheeseburger
@rustedshackles
@rustedshackles Год назад
That cheeseburger did look mighty delicious!
@Heiryuu

It’s a double patty burger with fried onions and not 2 but FOUR slices of cheese. I’d kill for a burger like that.

So did the rest of the cast. They all had to sit there and smell it. In fact so much so, John Leguizamo bought Five Guys burgers and fries for everyone!

So chef here. Arrange a plate with tweezers isn’t actually that uncommon, plenty of chefs use tongs and tweezers are just tongs for super small things and gives better control
@rustedshackles

That's awesome! I genuinely didn't know that! Definitely shows dedication to the craft.
@NothingKingKN

I think one of the most clever jokes of the movie is the composition of The Mess. Bone marrow is the blood because it's where it comes from; the meat is the sweat for the cooking method; the potatoes are the tears because they are boiled in salted water. The veggies are pressure cooked, just like how the sous chef was during his career, and the smear of gravy is the smear of the gunshot wound.
@videohistory722

Fun fact: the cheeseburger was the world's best cheeseburger. They had the guy who was voted best cheeseburger in the world teach Ralph Finnes how to cook it in real life. It was literally the best burger in the world.

I love how this movie ended. There's something morbidly satisfying about seeing this group of entitled pricks who never valued their life or how good they had it accept that they were the problem...that they can't go on after being so terrible...that the fire was their atonement. They didn't try hard enough to "fight back" like chef said because they didn't deserve to survive. Erin was the odd one out who only survived because she solved Chef's problem...because she was never an entitled prick...because she knows what it's like to work customer service...amazing ending.

If you remember earlier, when they were walking past the meat house, Elsa was explaining that they age the beef up to a particular time and that it must be consumed at that time and that it was coming up. One of the hedge fund guys then asked what happens to you if you eat it past it's time and Elsa said that you will die. The movie wouldn't just have that interaction for nothing. You'll also notice that there was no actual beef on the menu before the cheeseburger. Erin probably forgot about that part. At the ending, after she remembered that, she realized that she had taken 2 bites before, so she gives that last look of "oh, I'm dead" and thought "screw it, I'm dead anyway might as well enjoy my last meal" and takes a 3rd. Chef said "everybody dies tonight".🤪

Oysters and lemon mignonette - Common flavors put together that have to be broken down and deconstructed, foreshadowing what happens to the guests. This is meant to be taken as Chef throwing down the gauntlet. Amuse Bouche - More foreshadowing. Charred lace - crater. Milk snow - ash from the fire. Cucumber and melon - the guests. The Island - Scallop on a rock - Chef presenting himself to the guests. Plants - "in the weeds" Breadless bread plate - straight up snarking at picky customers. But you can also make a case for Lilian's plate having a broken emulsion on purpose as his way of saying SHE'S as useless as a broken emulsion. Memory - Self explanatory The Mess - Pressurized vegetables - literal pun. Bone marrow - blood. Beef jus - sweat. Potato confit - tears. Man's Folly - Plum vinegar exists because of Umeboshi, whey plays a vital part in making yogurt, sea kelp and lettuce are what keeps the oceans biome from wreaking havoc. But everyone either doesn't know that or forgets, because they don't taste good, aren't as attractive, or can be very difficult to work with in their natural form. It's the same with women, especially when they try to speak out against unfair treatment like what the chef describes. They get called things like "bottom feeders", like crabs. Final scene with Margot/Erin eating the cheeseburger - She didn't care about giving him peace of mind. She just wanted to survive. And Chef acknowledged that. Using his menu as a napkin - She never believed anything he said for one second. She is, in fact, a taker that knows her worth. And that's why she lived.

From the original script: Lillian wasn't completely exaggerating when she said she put Chef on the map: He had another high end restaurant before Hawthorne, called Tantalus. Got 2 Michelin stars 2 years in, then closed up shop. Isn't heard from again until 3 years later, running a taco truck in Portland. He agreed to the interview only if he could keep his privacy, his own land, and it had to be by the water so he could source his own fish. It's established the movie star has a peanut allergy during the tour, and this turns out to be setup for the menu's eighth course, where Felicity is ordered to force feed him a dish completely comprised of peanuts so as to kill him through anaphylactic shock. Anne (wife of man who paid Margot to look like his daughter while j*cking him off) actually couldn't eat The Island as is due to a shellfish allergy. Hers was salmon. The broken emulsion gag escalates to where the servers literally waterboard Lillian with it. The restaurant has hidden cameras in the dining room, so even if Elsa missed something, it still got caught. The taco truck Chef was running was, according to him, the happiest he'd ever been, but Margot calls him out on it later, asking why he parked his truck at a Food Expo where he KNEW food critics were going to be, if he wanted to be left alone. Man's Folly was supposed to have more details about a woman chef's actual experience in the kitchen, from harassment to stereotypes. The women DO get bread with Man's Folly, and it IS as delicious as promised. You can even see Tyler chewing on bread when Chef comes up to confront him afterwards. Not only did Tyler bring Margot knowing she would die, he sincerely thought Chef was going to spare him. And even when called out on it, he STILL didn't apologize or take it back, because all he cared about was experiencing the menu. Them all coming to the kitchen to watch Tyler screw himself over wasn't originally in the script. They were just supposed to watch from the dining room. Margot makes another bid for her life before being ordered to go get the barrel. Which Chef appreciates enough to tell her so. Margot smiles upon seeing Tyler's hanging. Lillian realizes she's never going to get to write about this last experience, and THAT ends up being her real just desserts. Instead of dropping the ashes to set it all on fire, Chef originally drops a match. The last scene is of firefighters combing through the burnt wreckage, and the very last thing we see is the one photo of Chef as a young man, flipping a burger, but happy.

This movie is so good. I usually don't go for films like this but it was so well done. The plot was clever, the acting was amazing, it was funny yet terrifying at the same time and I liked that they put what dish was being served on the screen for the audience to see. It was a nice touch. I enjoyed your reaction and you just got yourself a new subscriber!!!

I want to just ruin that bit with Dale posing as a Coast Guardsman. Its lazy on Julian's part. But in his defense, no one in that room is military. Even though Coast Guard isnt DOD anymore, they still are in compliance with AR 670-1. Dude didn't shave, wear a proper uniform, no M4, no squad or team. I wouldve been so petty to the Chef. Also. Bouche does not mean fancy. bourgeoisie means middle class.
