A throwback into childhood while rediscovering the NeverEnding Story. Haha, I couldn't help looking at the camera and watching Leo's reaction first hand... Love you bubba!
Oh, and you'll never guess what Leo would have named the empress!

“He’s not Giving up” “Because he’s a warrior” “I’m a warrior” “The gate can see if he has a good heart” “I have a good heart” Watching a child with a caring mother watch this film was exactly what I needed. Seeing both a child’s and a parent’s perspective of this movie was a delight. Thank you both!

I so feared for little Leo during the Artax scene 😲😲😲. And Leo is a TOTAL dead ringer for the kid in Witness from 1985!

I dont know what copy youre watching but the voices of the guys with the bat and the snail are not the original voices. The snail guy is talking with a souther US accent lol. The Gmorks voice is wrong too.

Why the F is the music and certain small details different from the original? That Artax scene was completely ruined by whatever they have done. That OG track that was playing in the original was a part of the whole emotional resonance of that scene. Im so offendee they have modified it from its original. Like thats just offensive and disrespectful to the original performance!

It so weird seeing this realizing you’re watching a different version than the one I grew up with. Some voices are different and the music is different in certain parts. Also the ending exchange between Bastian and the empress is different.
@adamn7516
@adamn7516 7 месяцев назад
Actually the ending exchange with Bastian and the Empress is the same as the American version, at least in few briefs the clips of the exchange we see in this video. I just recently watched the whole American version which is what I grew up with. It is possible that the full conversation between them may have additional dialogue that isn't in the US version but I have never seen the version they are watching.

Watch ~ "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" (1982) ~ together ! Greatest children's movie ever made ~ and since little children like to identy themselves with the one(s) in the lead part ~ you're little boy can identify himself with little Elliott (Henry Thomas) !

This movie grows with its audience in a very special way. As someone who saw it as a child and again as an adult, I'm sure you noticed. Great to see people sharing this with their young ones. We're all bonded through the wonder and the trauma. 😂

I read the book the movie is based off years ago, and it's a shame they cut out the backstory of the wolf villain Gmork. It was really cool & spooky, a bit like A Nightmare Before Christmas. Spoiler alert for The Never-Ending Story novel: ... ... Gmork came from the literal Dark Lands of Fantasia (Fantastica, in the novel), which has all the horror movie & story villains that exist, including zombies, vampires, werewolves, etc. The way the Dark Lands are portrayed was very similar to Halloween Town, with spooky haunted houses, dark crooked trees, fog everywhere. Gmork in the novel dies after being chained up in the Halloween Town place & gets eaten by the Nothing, but not before biting Atreyu & telling him that Fantasia people who jump into the Nothing end up coming to the real world, becoming the things that make humans doubt themselves & lose their dreams & hopes. The Nothing itself is the result of bigger villains in the real world, called The Manipulators, who in the novel make humans stop believing in fantasy & lose their imagination, making them vulnerable to being controlled by the lies told by the Manipulators. Fantasia/Fantastica is like a shield that keeps humans from being fully controlled, and thus the Manipulators used the Nothing and their servant Gmork to destroy that protection.

Funny Fact. That guy on the racing snail in the Willy Wonka suit is an actor named Deep Roy, who later on played as the Oompa-Loompas in the 2005 movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (A remake of the 1971 movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and the original title of the 1964 book, which is a great read!!)🍫

The book was written in German, and the movie made in both languages. My DVD has the book's title (in the shop) in English. I don't know the source of your video; perhaps partly the German cut?

This is the film's International cut. You should try to watch the US' cut; Steven Spielberg helped with the edition (it is a little bit shorter) and there are some new songs.

The shopkeeper and this movie in general, have always struck a chord with me. I've always loved to read, and one of the biggest points that this movie makes is how we can get lost in books, and sometimes see ourselves as the main character. But the main character here is your son who is experiencing this movie around the same age I did. And the story never ends because your son is another part of the story. Bastian is an example of this because he starts to insert himself into Atryus's story through sheer power of imagination. And that is the joy of books.

"It has to hurt if it's to heal." It's a movie about a great many things including grief. The Neverending story is about stories in general. One story effects someone who makes a new story that effects someone else. Each story have similar themes, similar ideas that are built up from the last one, which is why they are neverending. Names have power including the name of Bastian's mother and the names the bullies call Bastian. And it isn't terribly clear in the film, as the father has one solitary scene, but the book, the father is incredibly neglectful. He doesn't understand why his son is coping through his imagination through grief and why he isn't able to move on as fast as he himself does. - In ancient mystical and magical understanding, naming something gave you power over it. You see this in the Adam and Eve story with naming of animals and you see this in the summoning of otherworldly beings. But you also see this in giving nicknames now; again, what the bullies certainly are meant to represent. Taking power or stealing power through naming something. It also puts a spin on other ideas, like judging a book by its cover. The Rockbiter should be a scary creature, except he isn't. And the snail should be slow except he isn't. The Hob and Bat should be dumb or useless, except they aren't. "Confronted with your true self, most men run away screaming." Carl Jung whom Joseph Campbell read before constructing the Heroes Journey, talks about the shadow self. All of us have the capacity to be evil, to do evil, and we all do so in some capacity. I think it's very interesting in several layers to have the dual leads be the shadow selves of each other. One is a brave warrior, one is bullied. One is looked at as a doer, and one can't complete his schoolwork. One has an abundance of friends to help him, one suffers in silence absent friends or a father to help. - By the end of the film, Atreyu would rather not be on this quest when he feels that its hopeless would rather be Bastian. And Bastian would rather be in another world in Atreyu's shoes than face reality. And both are better for looking into that mirror afterwards. In the book, this makes a lot more sense, although this adaptation is excellent. Bastian is overweight, and is at best average in everything. His interests are childish as he's still a child, so his very serious father who has lost his hopes, dreams and wife, doesn't connect with him in any meaningful way. And Bastian can't connect with any of the children around him as he's overweight and middling or worse at everything but imagination, so he has no friends. Atreyu loses those close to him while Bastian had less close to him and already lost them before the story begins. I hadn't watched this for 30 years, and rewatched it a couple days ago, and it holds up very well. I decided to look up what others who had never seen the movie thought. Thanks for the video.

I loved this movie as a kid, saw it the first time when i was 4-5 in a local cinema with my daycare group. Too mee this movie has always felt extra fresh because it's a high budget European movie so the standards on what should be in kids movies is subtly different. There are no weapons or violence but things like those statues is no problem.
