'93 was the most competitive year for supporting actor performances on the big screen. The 66th Oscar nominees were: Tommy Lee Jones (The Fugitive), Ralph Fiennes (Schindler's List), John Malkovich (In the Line of Fire), Leonardo DiCaprio (What's Eating Gilbert Grape), Pete Postlethwaite (In the Name of the Father). The snubs were: Val Kilmer (Tombstone), Ben Kingsley (Schindler's List), Sean Penn (Carlito's Way), certain actors in True Romance, etc...

Many people believe that Val Kilmer deserved the Oscar that year for this film. Here are the nominees for Best Supporting Actor in the 66th Academy Awards: Tommy Lee Jones as Samuel Gerard in "The Fugitive" Ralph Fiennes as Amon Göth in "Schindler's List" John Malkovich as Mitch Leary in "In the Line of Fire" Leonardo DiCaprio as Arnie Grape in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" Pete Postlethwaite as Giuseppe Conlon in "In the Name of the Father" Other snubs include Ben Kingsley as Itzhak Stern in "Schindler's List", Sean Penn as David Kleinfeld in "Carlito's Way", certain actors in "True Romance", etc...

I only have one movie for you that no one has reacted to and it's one that I watch once a year. It's a fantasy western unlike anything else. "Purgatory" (1999) with Eric Roberts, Sam Shepard, Donnie Wahlberg and Randy Quaid. It's not near as good as "Tombstone" but I'm fairly certain you won't ever forget it.

Doc didn't come "because he knew he was going to die anyway." He dragged himself out of bed to save his friend's life. If he didn't kill Ringo, Wyatt would still be next and still be killed. Doc knew he had to kill Ringo and only he could - deathly sick or not.

I didn't notice if you mentioned it, but the guy playing Ike Clanton, is Stephen Lang. The actor who plays Col. Quarich/Clone Quarich from Avatar/Way of Water. Despite not watching westerns, I recommend watching Lonesome Dove with Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones, it's a four-part miniseries. Robert Duval called it the Godfather of western. Also, fun fact during the water scene where Curly Bill misses Wyatt despite being almost point blank. Supposedly that did happen in real life according to some stories.

The studio dumped Tombstone into theaters without screening it for critics because everyone thought that the Kevin Costner Wyatt Earp film would be a big hit. It wasn't. Film critic Roger Ebert said that he would have campaigned for Val Kilmer to get nominated as Best Supporting Actor had he seen the film earlier. The Kevin Costner production also had rented all the standard Hollywood Western costumes and gear, so the Tombstone production had to get more creative. Some of the extras were Western re-enactors who provided their own authentic Western gear.

That gun is a single action revolver, meaning no matter what happens to the trigger, it doesn’t fire unless you pull the hammer. You can spin that son of a gun as much as you want and it won’t fire unless you cock back that hammer. That’s why you see some of these cowboys hold the trigger down and fan the hammer, it allows for faster fire over accuracy. Just hold the trigger down and slap that hammer as fast as you can.

I was at Tombstone almost 10 years ago. We watched a re inactment of the gunfight. The actors drilled into the audience that the gunfight lasted no where near as long as any of these films say. They said it was over very quickly. Most of Tombstone now is modern now but there are places that are preserved. The site of the gunfight is buttoned up and closed up. All in all it's an interesting place to stay yes you can stay there.

I know the usual top comment is about Val K not getting an award, but I highly encourage every big fan of this movie to visit Tombstone AZ. There's so much history and paranormal ghost tours there. Saloons still owned by one the original cowboys and daily gunfight acts of the OK Coral. Stories being shared about big massacres and the graveyard with a tour of all the graves buried there. I grew up where Morgan is buried in Colton CA. The Earp's parents lived there during that time and their home is still there next to the high school

Marty and Wyatt were never actually married, she was only his common-law wife. A young John Wayne became friends with Wyatt Earp before he became an actor while he was working in the props department and Earp was being an advisor to the studios.Wayne said several times that he based his trademark walk and his slow drawling speech on Earp. I really was glad to see Charlton Heston and Harry Carry Jr. (Fred Wyatt, the sheriff who was killed) even in such small parts.
