love your review! it's nice to see it from a different POV, my issue with the movie is the stakes aren't believable for me. yes, settling the affairs of the dead can be daunting in Nigeria but the movie is set in the north? she could have easily gotten a marriage certificate or letter of administration from the sharia court of appeal? it's faster and easier than normal courts; 2 days max. it is what it is there for; situations where Muslims are at a disadvantage in a normal court.

I just finished watching it and I immediately came to watch your review. Like my hubby (who is a filmmaker) will say ,even HW makes inexcusable mistakes in film but if your story is gripping enough , it will be barely noticeable. I enjoyed this film so much I was crying. First this story is a breath of fresh air. The pace, character development, dialogue, arc. Korede did an amazing job for someone who has just 2 films under her belt. I totally love it. For the financial resolution, first I don't think it was too convenient. Good things does work out one on top of another for people like that and remember the perspective shift she had about running Qasim's business? Her coldness seems absolutely relatable too I guess and I think it's rooted in the rejection she already got from her own family especially losing her mum before there could be any resolution. I reckon that inspired some sort of stoicism in her. Hence her preaching about him living with his decision to become Muslim. I'm going to go recommend this to other people. It's how much I love it. Sorry, about the asthma , the flu is everywhere I guess. Been struggling a bit myself and my inhaler is out. Been afraid to ask how much it is now. Got the last ones from HMO. Hugs 🫂

Such a beautiful, thoughtful and generous comment. Thank you! I agree with you on the stoicism; I did even account for it - something about suffering giving you a hard edge. For film, though, I think it was hard to watch such relentless agony with nary a break or breather. And was a missed opportunity for catharsis (the kind you feel when someone who never cries cries or someone who never laughs laughs. It's such a powerful tool in storytelling because it makes that thing the character never does precious and is an easy way to express the extent of the the new emotion if it forces them out of established character. It can even be someone speaking a language they never speak (if you ever watched the TV series on AM Showcase Battleground; Adaora Bhadus abandoned her epic bougie and spoke Igbo for the first time ever when she learned what he husband had been up to. I resort to my native language whenever words fail me, especially with grief. That is, for instance, why when Kimiko speaks in the finale of The Boys, people lost their shit). I feel like here, when her smile did come after the time jump, it had no real impact; the moment had passed. I think I'm always looking for how a story could have been better, especially with.a small tweak. I'm an "emotion-seeker" as far as film LOL. BTW in this movie, a complete breakdown would have achieved a similar result. Because tears are also cathartic. She was just heavy-heavy-heavy. That said, great film! So glad you like it. I saw. 3 star rating on Prime and was like this is why we can't have nice things. Yes, Korede did very well. As well as with IT BLOOMS IN JUNE. Have you seen it?

@@pearlosibu , I haven't but will definitely look for it at your mention. Yeah, I agree with what you want and I'll have to unstall from finishing off The Boys now 😀

true! Christian intolerance is usually not talked about or shown and it can be just as dangerous at least in my experience

the sister-in-law's bump looked like 5 months and she gave birth after the idda so 4 months plus is still plausible, and in the beginning Zainab told her sister she was roughly 3 months+ so that would put her at 8 monthss so that check s out

okay so the iddah( waiting) is four lunar months and ten days but if you are pregnant it is until she gives birth so the duration of her pregnancy as she is still pregnant she hasn't completed her mourning
