Did you ever wonder what happens to well-known child actors after they quit the business? Martin Stephens talks about his career, the wonderful experiences as well as the tough reality during his life as an actor. He moves on through his life after fame, becoming an architect and meditation teacher.
Martin Stephens made his first film at the age of four. After starring in the iconic ‘Village of the Damned’ and ‘The Innocents’ as well as many other movies in the 1950's and 60's, he put an end to his acting career at the age of sixteen and started studying architecture at university. In 1979 he married and for 35 years, both he and his wife have practiced Vipassana Meditation. This meditation is a scientific technique that trains the mind to deal with the challenges of life in a balanced way and root out deep addictions.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

You do realize your grandfather is a genius, right? One of the most brilliant child actors to ever grace the screen. God bless him

Martin Scorsese regards 'The Innocents' as one of the greatest horror films of all time. And 'Village of the Damned,' a hit when first released, is still highly regarded and continues to compel audiences. It's a terrific film. Very few actors, in particular child actors, are able to rack up two classics on their resume - and Martin Stephens did it in the span of a very short juvenile acting career. Very impressive.

I was in the same year as Martin Stephens at boarding school in Kent. it was tough with cold dormitories and beatings. Like Martin I lost a parent. My mother died at 10, I think there were a few family tragedies the guided boys towards boarding school. At school he was known as the boy who played Oliver and he played Desdemona, I think, in the annual Shakespeare play, directed by the talented Mr Binfield. It got a write up in The Times. He used to disappear sometime when fi!ming.

Really? That’s kind of surprising. I watched it yesterday and almost fell asleep in the middle. The Innocents on the other hand really creeped me out

The Innocents is the best Horror film i`ve seen. Horror of the mind. Everyone was great in it but kids of that age to convince like that is mad
