Movies That Were Canceled For The Strangest Reasons

There are plenty of reasons why a movie gets canceled, like the budget going overboard or an actor or director storming off set, but then there are the movies with truly bizarre reasons for ending production.
In some cases, the movies were just bad ideas from the get-go and the directors finally came to their senses, while in others, good ideas were ruined by ridiculous demands. From the Superman film that would have been either the greatest or worst superhero movie of all time to the way Microsoft ruined their own Halo movie, let’s take a look at some movies that were canceled for the strangest reasons.

There were talks that Star Trek:The Next Generation would have past the torch down to Star Trek:Voyager as the new line of movies, but some idiot decided to reboot the original series. It is taboo to do that to a sci-fi film. Imagine they reboot Star Wars and having somebody not named Carrie Fisher playing Leia? You see how Solo went down? The idea was for the original cast of each Star Trek series gets a turn at having some movies. There were talks about some movies for Enterprise to get some movies as well since it did not get the full run on tv like the 3 before that show did. There are too many loose ends to finish off those shows that never got the treatment.

@RED ALERT News That would have been an awesome end credit scene for Captain Marvel. If they had Nick Fury Sr make his first and only appearance in the MCU, by handing the Infinity Formula over to his son. I would have liked to have seen Stephen Lang play Nick Fury Sr.

Well Star Trek had several movies including a fairly new one. I loved the original show with Scotty and sulu and and Nemo. I didn’t like the newer one just because it was not the same actors. I loved the original Star-wars trilogy! Then , after that party, I kinda stopped seeing them because it was just getting me mixed up . And weren’t as entertaining. I should say They. Some people like me, a Christian believe, I don’t think they made it that way. I just think it meant that good overpowers evil. But some Religions it was about heaven and hell. Which makes sense . Especially because of Vador killing the emperor and having his son remove his helmet that he needed to breath so he could see him face to face. Vadar came back to the good side. So at the end of the last movie. We see Vadar, Yoda and ob1 by a fence as spirits ? S I fi people can’t say that’s not partially true but they look at it as more of forces. But when you saw Vader’s helmet taken off, did you expect he looked like that? He looked like a grandpa who works in a hardware store. Or a simple man. Not some evil man!

In the mid 1970s Paramount was trying to set up their own TV network with a new Star Trek series being the core . Budgets and creative \studio conflicts shut the concept down.
@ShadowACE1998
@ShadowACE1998 5 лет назад
Wow. Your "Planet of the Titans" segment is way, way, WAY inaccurate. Planet of the Titans was one of many made for tv Trek film scripts going back to the early 70's. In 1976 Paramount decided to start a fourth network and wanted a new Star Trek series, called Star Trek Phase II, as it's flagship show. Scripts were written, sets were built, most of the original cast came back (except for Leonard Nimoy) and a new Enterprise model was being built. Then two things happened. Paramount backed off making a new network for roughly 20 years, and Star Wars came out. Suddenly every studio wanted a space movie. Paramount realized they had a space property and green lit Star Trek: The Motion Picture, using the pilot episode script called "In Thy Image" written by Harold Livingston as the basis for the shooting script.
@CaptRobertApril
@CaptRobertApril 5 лет назад
Star Trek's journey to the big screen included several u-turns. "Planet of the Titans" was just one of the attempts, but throughout the process, Paramount was going to do a new series, a low budget movie, a tv movie, a tv miniseries, a medium budget movie, etc. It was during one of the theatrical movie attempts that Star Wars hit, Paramount thought they'd missed their window, and went back to developing a tv series. Then "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" debuted, bringing in the same kind of box office numbers as Star Wars, showing that fans *would* support more than one sci fi movie per year, and the pilot for the Star Trek: Phase II series they'd been developing was reworked into "Star Trek: The Motion Picture".

Peters put the giant spider and the no flying thing in, not Smith. His 'treatment' was more like a series of suggestions. See "An Evening with Kevin Smith" for details. Peters was on the same wavelength as Snyder, who made Superman brooding and dark. The footage allegedly from Slipstream is not from that movie, as it has cars and taxis from the late 1990s in it. You could have found clips from Slipstream online somewhere. Star Trek the Motion Picture was made. Planet of the Titans was indeed one of the scripts for the aborted Phase II series (because Star Wars on the other side of town was making money). The God Thing was one of the scripts. It was loosely turned into Star Trek TMP so it was not cancelled. It became the film. Elements of it were used again in Star Trek V. So, no, not one of the cancelled ones, if it eventually was made. (In Thy Image, a similar script, became TMP). City of Lies did have a limited release. It was in art house theaters. Didn't see it though.

Not only that, but E.T. 2: NOCTURNAL FEARS was derived from an even earlier scrip called NIGHT SKIES, which was written after CLOSE ENCOUNTERS. Spielberg, during pre-production, didn't feel like making a film where the aliens were scary, so the designs and the script went through a major overhaul and wound up becoming the E.T. that we know and love. www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=night+skies+aliens BTW, NIGHT SKIES would eventually be reworked into a movie called SIGNS, both of which were based on an incident in the mid to late 1950s in Hopkinsville, KY: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelly%E2%80%93Hopkinsville_encounter Also note the appearance of the creatures, as the design of the gremlins from GREMLINS was based on their description.

Superman Lives was trashed because Batman & Robin bombed. Warner Bros entire summer slate failed, and they were looking at one of the most disastrous years in modern movie history. The only film that made money for them was Contact. With so much money in the hole, Tim Burton not really all that interested in the project, and the disaster that was their 4th Batman film, not to mention the other comic book movie they had "Steel" also failing to deliver, Warner Bros. had no choice but to cancel their big budget Superman film.

I'm not sure the Trek story is correct. Planet of Titans was bandied about in 1973, but as I understand it, it quickly fell apart as Roddenberry's story just sucked. That did, however, jump-start interest in bringing Trek back as a TV show, which was *supposed* to premier in 1977. That fell apart because the distribution deal it was attached to ("The Paramount Network") itself never happened, and then came Star Wars. THAT in turn got them talking about a Trek movie, which they unwisely did despite the fact that Roddenberry's new script pretty much sucked.

there are alot of differences that come down to semantics. A good one is in the explanation for the tech, science fiction tries to have an explanation done into explain how it could be possible via current understanding, like star treks warp bubble, or mass effects reduction of mass to zero, or even Mary Shelleys Frankenstein, at the time people experimented with moving bodies through electricity. star wars just has warp drives, they are pretty commonplace and wizard monk knights just exist. however there is alot of overlap, Q is one of the biggest gray areas, along with many of the godlike entities in star trek.
@ploppysonofploppy6066
@ploppysonofploppy6066 5 лет назад
@@metalicscraping2799 I see. A lot depends on what you want I suppose. What I like about sci fi such as trek and Galactica, is exploring the human condition under stress without the need to conform to reality. A weekly murder in the sleepy village of Midsomer stretches the imagination too far imho, such a place would be under lock down in real life. Police and social workers on every corner. Imagine the bridge of a Starship, and anything goes. Star Wars has gone a bit "Tolkien" for me. Brilliant in the 80s, fresh original, puttting a bit of swords and magic worked briefly, for me at least, but I find it hard to care about what colour lightsabre people use! Again, the imagination is stretched not by technology, but humans in an advanced society would study the force, it wouldn't be a mystery. This lack of connect with humanity, is that the difference between fiction and fantasy? God like powers were extant in TOS, "Squire of Gothos ", "Plato's Stepchildren " etc but the powers were explained in a sci fi way. And who knows, maybe Q is god! Even Richard Dawkins admitted we may have been created by a super intelligent alien, however, that doesn't answer the question of creation because it doesn't explain who created Q.

From my understanding. Spielberg had no intentions of E.T. 2. It was the studio that wanted it. Also again from what I heard. Del Toro blamed Alien Covenant also for his movie not getting made. Some people would claimed a.t.m.o.m was close in tone to covenant

I like Nicky Cage, but I would have laughed so hard at him being Superman!!! Now.......I CAN see him being the sadly comedic version of Shazam. But they picked that other guy, the one nobody has ever heard of. But to answer your question..........I'd have loved to seen a sequel to ET. I think it's just WAY past the time limit now to do anything with that. I mean if they did it now, it would have to be with Drew Barrymores characters kids.

That's because Cannon Films spread their budget across three films at once, a JCVD vehicle called "Cyborg", MOTU and "Superman IV:Quest For Peace", hoping to get rich quick by having three blockbusters, but their cheapness meant that all three failed, and Cannon Films went out of business.

One major director who NEVER did sequels: The late Stanley Kubrick. Also the also late Garry Marshall with the exception of Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement Oh..and Woody ALlen and Alfred Hitchock, them neither. And some guy named MIke Finkleman, dfoing Airplane 2 after Dave & Jerrry Zukcer, & Jon Abraham, announed Airplane! 3, obviously another joke, as William Shanter mentioned at the end.; We didn't get more, despite them dloing with a guy named Pat Proft those Naked Guns latrer.

Star Wars and Star Trek had the same ghostwriter. Star Wars from the start and Star Trek from The Motion Picture until now, all have been written by one guy. This includes TV series as well. His aunt lived on Borg Dr. in Sandy Utah. He has since retired but still has A stockpile screenplays. Once it runs out there might be A drop in the industry status quo. The Disney Star Wars screenplays were B versions of the original screenplays. The higher quality original screenplays were never made. As the deal with the ghostwriter, fell through. Star Wars could have been better but studio greed got in the way.
