I'm inclined to agree but Ratatouille is my girlfriend's favorite movie and she's watches it at least once a month so I guess there are some exceptions lol.
In Bruges, Rear window, The Host Burning Ratatouille Good time I think you should leave with Tim Robinson I, Tonya Mike Birbiglia stand up special Yiyi The Beach Bum Honey Boy Fantasia The Farewell Crumb (documentary) The Thing Swiss Army Man Charlie Chaplin movies (*modern times) Big time adolescence The favourite Killing of a sacred deer Dogtooth Love Paterson Playtime Kurosawa's work, seven samurai Thanks for the video Karsten, I'll definitely be watching some of these
Okay everything was good But i felt Swiss army man deserved a little bit more respect yeah i Know a lot of people didn't liked it and all the Cannes thing but still we have to support different films and that film tried something different and it had deep meaning into it and in one particular seen it question the whole humanity so..... It's your choice but i would suggest you give it a watch it has some great performances and Ok bye
Highly recommend Shane Black's "The Nice Guys" starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe-- one of the funniest, convoluted buddy-cop films in existence. It's incredibly well written, preformed, and directed. Check it out!
I binge watched every Quentin Tarantino movie and I totally recommend it to everyone (or maybe I’m the only person interested in film that hadn’t watched them before)
Hidden Gems and Underrated Masterpieces - Nightcrawler - South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut - What We Do In The Shadows - The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie - Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey - Upgrade - The Lighthouse - Anomalisa - The Raid - Rango - Snatch - Reservoir Dogs - Groundhog Day - The King of Comedy - Downfall
OK CAMPIONE I guess, but Reservoir Dogs is like in my top 5 favourite movies so I do believe that it’s better than good, but everyone is entitled to their opinions EDIT: sorry if that sounded aggressive or something
All I can ask of you is please don’t watch Lord of the Rings at a time when you’re not really focused on it. Obviously don’t put it on when you’re tired (because they’re freaking long), but also there are a lot of strange character names (that often sound similar), and a lot going in the world and I know people who have disliked the films initially just because they’re so overwhelming. Just take them slow because they’re incredible. Also, I’m saying this with complete bias because I think The Lord of the Rings trilogy is the greatest achievement in the history of cinema.
I highly recommend The Handmaiden. Definitely my favourite film of the 2010s. Also for a trilogy, try Park Chan wook’s Vengeance trilogy (these aren’t narratively connected, but share similar themes, watch them in any order but theatrical order is best to watch the director’s evolution). Basically anything Park Chan wook 😂
I reccomend the lighthouse. Especially if youre stuck with an older oppressive figure that bosses you around while stuck in a small space. Really helps through tough times. Stay safe! 😍
I really enjoy South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, since December I’ve seen it like 7 times. I’m still not sure if I prefer the SpongeBob Movie though 🤨
Sebastian Kemink honestly, before watching the movie I hadn’t seen an episode of South Park, so you really don’t need much or any prior knowledge to still enjoy it. And to answer your question, the film is just so much fun in my opinion, from the jokes to the characters and even the songs (this film is musical, but parodies then at the same time). I think you do need a specific sense of humour, the jokes and gags are very offensive and edgy, so if you like that stuff I beg you to watch it. But you also might hate, it is quite polarising.
some of the most underrated movies of the past decade you should check out: Seven Psychopaths The Ballad of Buster Scruggs Project Florida The Founder Nice Guys Dope ...and most overlooked Nolan film: Insomnia
u recommended 'love'. omg hahah i remember watching that movie when it had a different poster on netflix, thinking it was gonna be a cute love story... BOY WAS I WRONG
Don Hertzfeldt's "It's Such a Beautiful Day" is currently free on vimeo and it is one of my favorite films of all time, so it's a great time to be watching that.
A Silent Voice is available on Netflix and it’s a beautifully shot and animate coming of age film that tackles a lot of relevant subjects. The way it portrays social anxiety is quite genius and you will never forget the film after you watch it.
You definitely items should watch the before trilogy (before sunrise, before sunset, and before midnight). Never has two people talking and walking around various locations in Europe been more fascinating
I would definitely recommend watching 12 monkeys (1996) with brad Pitt and Bruce Willis. It’s a bit like the situation we are all in with covid 19 but it’s definitely worth it. It’a one of my favourite movie
DEATHSTROKE621 it was amazing, but a 10/10 may be a little bit of a stretch. I loved it so much but there where a couple problems with the soundtrack compared to the actors voices, especially at the club scenes
12 Monkeys is my suggestion! It has amazing set and concept design and it’s about time traveling to stop the spread of a deadly virus. Might scare some people because of how relatable the lead up to the virus is, but it’s incredibly enjoyable and unique.
If you like Yi Yi you should see A Time To Live and A Time to Die and Dust in the Wind. They are both on Prime and they are from a filmmaker who was pretty close to Yang (they are directed by Hou Hsiao Hsien who is the lead in Taipei Story) and they are both written by the actor who played the Dad in Yi Yi
Literally just watched The Thing yesterday! Everyone else in the room left or ended up watching something on their own devices, I guess it's not for everyone.
I finally watched Seven Samurai, Inglorious Bastards, Throne of Blood, the Golem, The Hands or Orlac, Nosferatu, Honey boy, cries and whispers, wild strawberries, and more. I've done nohing but watch movies since this craziness started.
Movies I have really enjoyed streaming on Netflix include The Iceman, Sicario, and The Shape of Water. On Prime Video I would recommend Burn After Reading and Beautiful Boy.
Great picks! I’ve been making recommendation videos on my own. I’m a rising RU-vid film critic and I just did a video on Netflix and Hulu with Amazon next if you or anyone in the comments want to check them out. Love your videos Karsten! Might just watch Robots on repeat though
if you're interested in foreign films, you should watch a few brazilian ones: bacurau, city of god, central station, the second mother and elite squad. they're all excelent - as a brazilian I'm biased but they're still some of the best movies I've ever watched (and I will rewatch on the quarentine. some of them are available on streaming, some you can find ~illegally)
Hi Karsten! You have to watch Pinchcliffe Grand Prix (Flåklypa Grand Prix). It used to be the worlds most watched stop-motion feature up until the early nineties. It’s also known as THE Norwegian movie. IMDB: 8,5*, 12.000 votes | Rotten Tomatoes: 94%, 3.000 votes
I watched the LOTR Trilogy for the first time ever during this quarantine and I absolutely loved it. I can't wait to read the books. I´ve also finished reading the full Chronicles of Narnia series recently , but that´s another story. Love your channel, Karsten.
Any Scandinavian disaster movie. "The Wave" in particular, while having a similar setup to most American disaster movies, I find goes a lot further when it comes to raising stakes. It isn't afraid to kill off characters, and force it's protagonists into real, difficult positions. It's as if the whole movie were about that 5 minute scene in Day After Tomorrow, except they have nowhere to actually escape to. See it on Hulu. (while we're at it, Quake, from the same production company is also pretty solid) and while we're on Scandinavian movies- is Trollhunter available anywhere?
I recently watched Snow Piercer by Bong Joon-Ho. It was a blast and it kept me fully engaged and interested the entire run time. The movie is awesome and I gotta recommend it.
I watched all of Chaplin’s films during quarantine, loved them. My favorite was actually The Gold Rush, it’s a perfect mix of slapstick comedy, adventure and romance
The film “Zodiac” on Netflix is amazing!! It stars Robert Downey Jr., Jake Gyllenhaal, and Mark Ruffalo. It’s more then 2 hours long but so worth it, you are on the edge of your seat the whole time
Good/Short filmographies to explore: Wes Anderson (good starter: Fantastic Mr. Fox) Stanley Kubrick (good starter: The Shining) Charlie Chaplin (good starter: The Kid (1921) Andrei Tarskovsky (watch Mirror last, it's very autobiographical) Don Hertzfeldt (good starter: Everything Will Be OK) Orson Welles (good starter: Citizen Kane) Gaspar Noe (good starter: Enter the Void/ Climax) Quentin Tarantino (good starter: Reservoir Dogs)
Please check out Kanopy from your local Library it works off your library card and has a lot of A24 and independant titles, criterion collection and documentaries. One of my new favorites I watched from there, was Tanna, a polynesian film that was an amazing escape into the lives of two opposing jungle tribes, and yet overall oddly calming in it's beauty and it's "acting"
I agree with Karsten, now is the perfect time to start watching foreign language films. A few of my favorites (which you should definitely check out) are Theeb directed by Naji Abu Nowar, capernaum directed by Nadine Labaki, my life as a zucchini directed by Claude barras, and last but not least portrait of a lady on fire directed by Celine sciamma
This video came at the perfect time hell yes - my suggestion Taika Waititi’s Hunt For the Wilderpeople. Incredibly funny with masterful cinematography in the stunning woods of New Zealand I love it
I'd recommend watching The Cornetto trilogy by Edgar Wright starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. I have watched it yesterday, it was funny, entertaining and very stylistic and i had a good time watching it!
Magnolia directed by PTA it’s on Netflix and it sickens me that there are people out there who haven’t experienced this movie Probably Tom Cruise’s best performance Really long though but one of my all time favorites
This was really good! Some of these were already on my watchlist (Ratatouille I just watched) and some of these I have never heard of but am interested in. As un uncut gems fan, I think it’s about time I check out good time. I’m also in the middle of watching all of Waititi’s films, have 2 left, so I relate to that binge a director point. AND I was considering watching Lord of the Rings for the first time. As to your Disney+ point... I personally think Bambi is better than Fantasia and I’ll recommend Bambi as my quarantine pick if it’s been a while since anyone has seen it/if they never have. Very artistic film.
