Not like a dry, dull and boring lecture at all! So, when I watch the video again to catch something that I missed, I'm not annoyed by your style - you get to the point. Your videos are a pleasure to watch. I learn a lot. You take the fear out of pruning. Thank you very much for taking the time to make such informative and enjoyable videos.

Paul your video was a good inspiration to me I didn't know how to remove a rent veteran rose that I've had I've been growing it for over 9 years and I finally moved to a different house and I wanted to take my rose bush with me but I was searching and searching and I came to your video and thank you so much I feel so relaxed and so at least that I can finally take my red rose veteran bush with me and I also have another rose bush in the backyard which I'm also going to take that I love my roses I'll take very good care of them thank you so much....

Your videos are my rose bible. I purchased a house over a year ago with 50 roses and no prior knowledge of rose care. I've been researching and watching every video for over a year now and am happy to report that all of the roses are still alive! (and according to my neighbors some look even better than they did before!) I just bought your book and cannot wait to read it! Hadn't seen this video till today, I moved a Rosa de Rêscht the same way earlier in the year, you wouldn't have known it had been moved! I'm in the UK and gardeners over here panic at the thought of moving even a small shrub but we had severe storms and all my fencing came down so drastic measures were needed for all the plants in that zone as I didn't have room to erect new fencing without damaging them anyway so I moved every one in pretty much the same way and they are all flourishing. Really wish I had found your channel sooner though, excellent info and you have a new subscriber.

Thanks for the information on how to move a rose bush. I need to move one and did not know how to go about doing it. And also I was not sure what kind of fertilizer to use. We are renting a home in the country and they said I can do what ever I want to make it better. So I love my flowers so this rose bush was her so I am upgrading . thanks again.

Here in the 2rd week of July I'm about to transplant a mature rose. This video answered some of my questions. At least it saves me a trip to the Rose Institute in beautiful downtown Hooterville. Love the Strauss.

Good stuff. The only thing I saw missing was how to prepare the new planting hole. That is, how deep should the new hole be? How wide, angled sides or sloping?

We just got several established rose bushes from some people my husband knows. Sadly, I don't think they had been watered before he dug them up and we just let them stand against the fence last night without any water. My husband is digging holes for them now, we got rose soil and B1 and sand (for water filtration as we have clay soil here and it doesn't drain well). He can only dig down around 14" or so and about a 2' square hole. I think he's going to put the some of the rose soil and sand down first and then add some water with the B1 mixed in and then put the rose bush in. Then he'll refill the hole with rose soil and native soil (if you can call it that), but not the clay, and water some more. We're in north San Diego county in early April 2017 and it's somewhat sunny and temperate right now. Expecting some rain on Saturday (today is Thursday). Husband doesn't want to cut them back as some of them are blooming beautifully, but he knows they should be as we've been advised and most videos are showing. Will the roses survive our ignorance, do you think? If you have any other suggestions to help us to keep these roses alive and thriving, I would really appreciate it, though by the time you respond, they will probably all be in the ground already. Also, if you have other videos that would be helpful to us, could you suggest which ones? Thanks so much!

Greatly informative videos! thank you. I live in No California in a foothills valley where the winters are pretty mild. down to 32-31 degrees F. I have to move roses that are still blooming in October. I have tree roses and a bushy one that grows about 7-8 feet high and easily 4 feet wide. Should I treat as if it were dormant and transplant as your videos instruct for dormant (bare root) or as if it were growing season and needs a root ball? Thank you.

Loved this video. Helped me transplant a 52 year old bush. Loved the 2001 Space Odyssey music! Just a question as it wasn't in the video. How deep do you dig the hole to which you are putting the transplanted bush into? We have red clay up here as well in Maryland - clay and rock soil. Pain in the butt when having to plow for a veggie garden as it costs me a fortune every year to put in mushroom soil, top soil, peat moss, etc.

Great video! What about dusting in root growth hormone before dropping it into its new home?

have you tried the effects of shredded willow, as a fertilizer after transplant, steep it like a tea in the sun a bit, it seems to make roots grow quickly. If you haven't tried it it may surprise you.

I'm so glad I saw this video. I moved three rose bushes and they look bad the following day. But now I know. It's part of its process. Because I am watering the same way I use to and did some pruning as well.

I would try to move those as if they were growing season if you have to move them now. Then watch them and if need be cut them back if the growth doesn't recover after a week or so.

Hi, I'm thinking about moving some rose bushed. However, I need them to be smaller for the new place. Can I cut them down to the the bottom of the rose steam?

Hi great video I'm planning on moving a 55yr old roses The canes were about 30 foot long about 6 of them. Its got 2 canes which are woody and very thick.I cut it down to about 2 foot and there is now loads of new growth I'm pleased to say.I wasnt sure this old rose could cope with it. We plan to move within the next 4 months. My question is will the rose cope with a second shock as it will be put into my car and taken to another location.Would it be better to put into a large pot indef thanks

Paul, I have bought many roses from you and the sun is going down on them as shade has taken over. I have, this summer, taken out a lot of trees and one area where I wish to relocate the roses. I have some with blind shoots that occurred, over the years, as a result of "no or little sunlight." Are these a loss? My 3 crepuscules are 15 feet tall and trying but scarcely blooming, 7-8 per year where they once were floriferic. If I move them to a good location, cut them back in late fall, will they produce fruit/blooms over the ensuing years. The Crepuscules and Jaune Desprez, Reve d'Or have trunks the size of a man's calf. Is that a plus or a minus for relocation?

We are selling my mother's house and there's a rose that my grandmother gave her in 1949 when they built the house. It's a 'peace' type, with no thorns. I'd love to be able to move it to my house. It's not only old, but it's in a flower bed that's about 2' wide, with the asphalt driveway on one side and a concrete base for the fence on the other side. The rose still blooms beautifully. I've taken some cuttings and I think they're going to grow, but I'd still like to be able to have the whole plant. Is there any safe way to do this?

The rose I need to move is new, was started from bare root stock this spring. It is only about 1 foot tall, is a hybrid tea rose.It is too close to a larger knock out rose and is getting overshadowed.Do you think this young rose will live if I move it at this young stage of its growth? Hey ya ..... I had to transplant a rose it's not a bush it just couple branches but I didn't get big dirt ball with the root I transplanted it as bare root with mound in bottom and made sure of drainage and no air pockets will it survive ?? Ugh .. is there anything special I can do except keep it moist and from dry g out for first couple weeks it ReALY didn't have very many little roots growing off it just the stalk and the thick branch roots below root ball .UGH

Hi Paul, I moved my Pinkerbell rose about 1 foot behind 2 weeks ago, watered with small dose of Superthrive (as I ran out of Vitamin B1) 2/3 times but still it is droopy, not looking happy at all. I defoliated most of the leaves as well. Please advice what I should do to bring this rose back in healthy condition again. Should I water with SeaMagic sea weed?

Paul, when I dug up my rose bush, the soil all fell away, I had no root ball!😳 Mainly because I didn’t water beforehand 😰 learned my mistake. Now the plant looks wilted, we are in summer. I’m going to prune it back. That should help right?

I have 3 rose I need to move because of 2 new rose bush’s that I just acquired. The new bushes are just now starting to lose their blooms my three old hybrid tea’s have already lost their blooms. Should I mix any manure with the soil? I am going to add more soil to the area because I believe it is needed. Any advice you can give would be helpful.

Hi, I need to move my Eden Climber rose which I planted as bareroot in late March. It is now 6 feet tall with branches. Will it be okay if I move her now? I am in zone 7a( Connecticut).Temperatures are now between 55 and 68 degree F. mostly. The nighttime temperatures are between 47 and 50 degrees.

Hi - I did as you instructed in moving the bush. I put in top grade top soil and garden soil (Miracle Grow) around and filled in the bush. Now the bush has wilted. Can I assume it is not going to survive? The leaves are turning yellow. I have used a full watering can on the bush for two days now. I don't know what has gone wrong as it went smoothly as far as the transfer. Any suggestions as to getting this bush resurrected?

Nice trick but that’s to heavy for me. My rose bush is crowded and not getting enough sun. The leaves have brown spots and fungus so I sprayed neem oil which I’ve never used before. I hope it holds out until the fall. It did get one 🌹 so that’s promising.

Mr. Zimmerman, I have a problem. My beautiful Rosa Rugosa rosebush is not doing well. Some of the limbs have lost there thorns and the leaves are yellow. Not the whole plant, just 2 or 3 limbs. Is there something I can do to save it? Do I have it planted to deep? I live in zone 5.
