If you load a spreader with straw you’ll love that a lot more, trust me. Also those gates are durable. We’ve had numerous ones ram it and it gets kinda jammed but they don’t bend. The heifers sometimes get there head stuck in between the gates also. Barn looks awesome though! You’ll love it
Great looking barn. This is a time to preserve and keep the memory close by and locked up. Regarding the interior gates, an old friend used repurposed garage door springs to help close certain gates. Congratulations to you all on the barn!
Love the curiosity of cows with something new. Another family in our 4-H club pastured their herd across the road, moved them twice a day for milking. The county came along, slightly widened the road and re-pave it. First time, the cows would not cross it. Solution, spread some straw on the road and across the road they went. I really like the thought that went into the details with the gates, excellent planning.
These gates between pens looks great because they work in several places hope they don't get bent. I'm worried they're too low mounted because bedding gets bigger faster than you think. That's only thing we regret after building for young calf
Soooo wonderful , it worked out beautiful,,hahaha, you guys have the patience of job...they loved it,,,''hey works good'',,walking great on it,,,we are so happy for you.. congratulations
I love the new shed. Well thought out. Why didn't we think more intelligently 50 years ago? Maybe I could still be dairy farming today. Awesome video and I could be watch those calves jump and kick their little legs all day. So cool. Thanks for sharing.
A wrap around snowmobile pull starter handle would fit above the finger rings of the gate latch pins and make a grip release style...my favorite because my Poncho, my donkey, couldn't get it open. He did defeat the traditional chain link on a squiggly round stock one... with his tongue. He was eventually apprehended hiding out in the garage, doorknobs were no problem, cleaning his teeth with hockey pucks.
Where your new gates come together in the new barn, that looks like a good spot for heifers to get their head stuck. Heifers are known for doing the impossible
Congratulations from Kenya! Such a nice barn and hoping it'll serve you well. I thought a compost manure barn would be better than bedding every now and then.
Bale chopper will make dust like you wouldn’t believe and dust is hard on heifers lungs might not see it right away but as cows you’ll notice the lung damage. Grind it in commodity shed and bucket it in.
Fantastic barn. A lot of neat features. If the cows appear to be bending the larger gates separating the pens, cut holes in the concrete and sink a sleeve that you can drop a removable post into to act as a support for the the gates against the weight of cows pushing against them. When post is removed to clean the pens, fabricate a small piece of pipe with a flat piece of steel on top, then drop the small pipe into the sleeve and the flat piece of steel will prevent manure from dropping into the hole.
Awesome heifer facility! You guys need a bedding chopped for your tractor and you can blow it right in through that back wall. That's how we bed heifers in a similar barn. It works great because we never have to drive in the pens to bed.
Congratulations on getting the latest generation livestock into the new barn. It looks like a great building that may serve your purpose for years to come.
13:45 made me laugh "Oh, look at that, Bessie's first poo in her new home!" The girls look like they love the new place. Thank you for sharing the journey, Eric.
Great to see you moving into the new barn. It looks really nice and efficient. Cows waste no time breaking in the new barn with poop lol. Making themselves right at home. So happy that your project was successful. Thanks for sharing.
Congrats. Iv been watching for a while and love to see the expansion to the farm. Harvest is coming quick also. I’d love a mother video on how the crops are coming along. Thanks for the entertainment lol.
I believe Eric mentioned the back side will have a curtain that is retractable, but isn't installed yet. The sides are walled with doors. The front...I am not sure if there will be any protection from the elements. Cows can weather freezing weather with thick hides. Its the heat they are uncomfortable in.
A thing to try that we do, is have your bale grinder guy, grind up some bedding bales then load in spreader and drive through. It's what we do for dry cows with cornstalks
@@Mikulis1000 straw choppers, don't through it as far as sales man say and they make a heck of a mess. Had a kuhn knight sales guy says it could through up to 75ft.... it only threw good dry corn stalks 30ft....and our barn pen is 45ft deep
Glad you guys are into your new building. Thank you for taking us along on this project. My wife and I didn't miss an episode. I like the way you and your dad coordinate the cutoffs and T - shirts. Did you plan it that way? God bless.
Congratulations to you and your dad and the whole family on the christening of your new barn with poop. Really great looking facility and I love the gates and the different types of mechanisms and sliding things, really well executed at least from my viewpoint. I'm hoping that you captured some video from the first feeding at the new barn because I think it'll be interesting to see how the cows respond to their new environment. Keep up the great videos, can't wait to see more. By the way we haven't seen any videos of your adorable child the potential 11th generation dairyman/dairy person recently, just saying.
I've herd of a hotel referred to as Cowtown Palace....but this is one for sure....thanks to ya'll and the previous gens....from one who grew up drinking all Jersey fresh cream milk and who can't go but a day or so without a big bowl of ice cream!
I built a new heifer shed 3 years ago and the day we moved the heifers out of the old dilapidated facilities to the new one with clean concrete and shiny headlocks was such a rewarding day... looks like a first class facility
13:35 she has a white heart on her face, awee!! Great building and setup y'all! Will y'all salvage the metal works and other useable stuff from the old barn? Blessings y'all! AWEE I never thought I would like sugars from a heifer but Oh My Heaven, anytime babies, anytime!
9th Generation Dairyman out there in the crocs like a real savage. Nice. 6:30 Riding on the trailer he's a mad man! Should write that first calves number down. She was the first to move in your new barn!
