In the previous 6 years of raising pasture raised meat birds, I've used chicken tractors. Last year i had my chicken tractors propped up so the chickens could just come in and out of the "cage" as they wanted. I've been considering doing something more like your doing for coverage. Ive consireded using a car trailer as my coverage mainly because it's not being used and i can move it with my tractor. the height seems about the same as your (tubbers?) Just has more length and width. What do you think? Does that sound weird/not practical? Also i do use poultry netting electrified.

Actually I like what you are considering better than what I am doing. I generally don't have any issues with predators during the day time, I like the more movement my chickens get, but night time can be stressful. Especially if an owl moves in. I would like to be able to let them out throughout the day and then, if predator pressure, put up at night. My "tubbers" (I call them covers) are two foot from top to bottom.

Goodyear mor ninguna, incluso think its a ver y Goodyear project to not use chicken tractors,but I really liked the cage for the chicks up to their third week. Could you give me the measurements of that cage for 500 chickens. Please, greetings and bleassings. From México

Hello! I keep the chickens in a brooder (cage) that measures 20 feet long by 12 feet wide.

@coveychasefarm
@coveychasefarm Год назад
The goose is to protect the chickens from hawks and owls. There are 4 geese in with the 500 chickens.

@@coveychasefarm what do you do with the gooses at the end of the chicken run?
@coveychasefarm
@coveychasefarm Год назад
@@MistressOP I will put them in with the next run of chickens. Our last run of chickens will be in late October. After that I will keep them in a fenced in area until we have chickens again in April. The geese can live 8-10 years I believe.

@@coveychasefarm oh so they are staying with you. Got you, got you. You will not be starting a pasture goose/turkey program.

Wow! Your setup is really AMAZING! I have 19 layers, and added 6 baby chicks, and two ducks this spring. Nothing compared to yours.😀 I still have meatbirds on the list. Did you say you were getting turkeys?
@coveychasefarm

Yes, turkeys coming in July. Now I have to figure out where to put them!!!
