*** About Living Traditions Homestead ***
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

The water level in the pan prevents the pan fill hole in the bucket from taking in air. The air in the bucket creates a vacuum.

Great video Kevin. They are getting big. The only problem I would have is south the tractor doors. I can't hardly lift a bucket of water so to try straddling the gate and turning the bucket upside down, I would end up in side on the ground. Haha I'm not as young as you. Lol They look awesome!
@LivingTraditionsHomestead
@LivingTraditionsHomestead 7 лет назад
+Cindy Thomas yes, the buckets can get heavy when full. The nice thing about the door opening down is that you can actually stand on it and set the bucket on it. Then you can just kind of roll the bucket into the pan. I also know you can get 2.5 gallon buckets but you would just have to fill them more often.

Hey guys! i got a litle question: do you have fox where you are? Cause i've seen you got no chicken wire on the floor of your chicken tractors. Did you ever see a predator digging to go inside of the tractors? Ps: sorry for the mistakes english is not my mother tongue.

My chickens are 3 weeks old and out on pasture. Currently have 50 in a 8x10 chicken tractor. How much should they be eating. I have a 3 foot feeder and I fill it at 6am and come out at 4 pm and it's empty. Is there a lbs per week they should be eating?

What temperature are the 3 weekers tolerant to? Im in western Washington and put my cornish outside at 3.5 weeks and it hailed today and will be upper 30s tonight. There's a heat lamp but I think it'll only be warm right by the lamp and I'm worried they'll get cold with the loss of heat lost out the coop vents... I hope they're alive in the morning

How’d it go? I’m in Western WA too. Thinking about putting ours out tomorrow, they’ll be exactly three weeks.... but contemplating waiting until 4 weeks. Hmmm.
@whiskerandojoe

@@jamieroulstone163 with or without a heat lamp? The cornish variety are much more developed at this time stage than their egg laying cousins. It went well and so did the harvest! Now I have 5 layers (2 younger still inside) and out of my 9 total chickens haven't lost any to health/early death and I use non-medicated feed. I do supplement their diet with bugs and worms that I dig up for them on occasion as well as kitchen scraps

We are raising our first batch but plan on getting some more in the autumn. I live in the Kansas City area. How do I keep the dry in the chicken tractor (inspired by Salatin style but not exact) or do I need to be concerned about that? Spring and fall are definitely rainy seasons around here.

I would use two layers of shadecloth with a piece of plastic between them instead of a blue tarp. The shadecloth won't deteriorate nearly as fast.

These birds don't stop eating. If their feed isn't given at 12 on and 12 off they will eat too much and get too heavy. Their legs give out and they can't walk. Kevin is making sure they live a good and humane life.
