"hey do you make a lot of money? and you live all alone, and you're so young and inexperienced? wow!" as for the work situation, it's kinda undeniable that your circumstances are unique and lucky. i'd say you shouldn't feel guilty for not suffering to survive, but just do your best to be a positive impact on others and that's good enough! there is no "working hard enough": just being safe and finding happiness for yourself and those around you is the key, yknow? the rules of the world are all kinda made up, including how much a job is worth and how much you have to suffer to be valid. but we're all real, and so are our struggles and our joy.

The story about the security lady has me pretty worried! She does seem like a creep. Even if SHE isn't going to be the one breaking into your house, she might know someone who will. She may have been trying to sell you tampered merchandise. Hopefully you've set up your OWN security measures to keep her and her guests out. I would be very cautious around that person and if she is going to come to your door again, call the police and file a report!

TL;DR: Be careful when answering home security questions from folks you didn't contact first. Just a warning for folks who encounter door-to-door "security salespeople": some of these folks are people asking security questions in order to figure out if they can burglarize your place easily. Don't answer questions about what kind of security you have to people you don't know, especially if you didn't contact whoever's at your door. Additional note: Don't say you live alone. Say you live with at least one other person, if asked by one of these weirdos. If you have at least one dog, DO say they're a trained guard dog. Also, if you feel inclined, DO say you have a firearm and know how to use it.

the vacation guilt is so real. i'm not in the exact same situation but i do feel that exact way when i compare how privileged i am at 25 compared to my parents who were just newly immigrated to america when they were my age. i feel awful having the gall to ask them to help me with my students loans when they were working so hard and giving up their dreams when they were in this point in their life. it's really difficult trying to justify it, even if they say us having this privilege and freedom is what they wanted.

I bought a house a few months back with my boyfriend and had a “person selling security” come by 3 times. I unfortunately answered the door the first time thinking it was someone else. He asked if I was interested in a home security system and when I said no, he looked at me like I was crazy. My anxiety was high, but I noticed he had a name tag, but there wasn’t a company name on his clothes and he never mentioned one, either. Pretty suspish, if you asked me. You handled the situation really well! Edit: Another thing was that whenever I didn’t answer the door right away, the guy put a “sorry we missed you” note with a phone number on the front door. My boyfriend said UPS does that when you’re not home to receive a package. I also thought that was strange.

As someone who used to be a nail tech, there are a lot of people in the business that didn't actually go to school for their licenses. As long as they have the right connections, they can get a license that looks and is technically legitimate (aka they are illegal legal licenses). It sounds to me as if you had one of those nail techs. I used to work with several.

Once when I was home alone pregnant, and caring for my then 2.5 year old a security system salesman came up and was trying to convince me to get this system and genuinely seemed like he was trying to terrify me the entire time like making remarks about being home alone with kids, living in a "rough" (aka majority Hispanic so actually a completely normal) neighborhood, and then when he went to walk away he turned around and saw my son standing at the window said "I hope you reconsider, his life is worth it" bro I slammed my front door so hard like wtf is that 😭

having struggled for years as a barista before finally making my way into a big boy tech job, I also have a deep-seated feeling of guilt whenever I do something nice for myself that I know my food service brothers/sisters/siblings would be unable to do. Not because I don't feel like I deserve it, but because they deserve it too, and I'm sure as shit not working harder than they are to earn it

funny and comfy video!!! w/ regards to the guilt thing I grew up with a similar vibe from my parents. I constantly had to pretend to do homework to get to read comics or just relax. My advice is to set a timer for a certain amount of time (mine is 44 mins) focus on working, and then when the timer runs out, draw a star or color in a square or something on a piece of paper. then set the timer again or take a break. At some point you will figure out how many rounds of focused work you can do in a day (because there IS a limit. taking breaks will make you more productive) and then when you hit that you can stop for the day. It helps with my guilt because I can physically see the amount of time I have worked in how many stars I have colored in.
