Impressive tractor capabilities. I have been using a small Kubota 30hp 1900 lb HST and I have wondered about how it would be to operate a shuttle shift. This video shows it clearly. I don’t know how I feel about it because it seems as though the shuttle adds a few layers of operations vs the hydro and I worry about the clutch long term if using it for this kind of work. But I know for most work the shuttle is much more efficient because you lose a lot of power through the hydro. I appreciate the videos on the tractor. It sure helps a person make some decisions by seeing the actions and hearing your experiences with it.

Thanks very much! Honestly the decision was tough between hydro and gear. In the end gear won for the math with hydraulic oil changes then cost of repair. Hours of use for us are relatively low compared to commercial use, better than average for a consumer. Comparing cost of repair if there were a transmission problem gear is far less while also having less damage in the hydraulic system as a whole. Yes you have more steps to make but this also creates an added layer of safety in you think a tad bit longer before you decide to move. Lastly I believe you have greater flexibility and longer range in the added gears being selectable gear compared to standard hydrostatic movement. The facility I work at we have 5 JD, 6 Kubota, 1 Same, 2 Cat, and 1 Case and 1 Branson 5835 we just purchased. 4 of the JD the clutches are gone but still used, the Case has no clutch left, the Kubs range from 300 to 3000 hours and are all hydro shuttle working great, the Cats are all hydro and have constant issues related to pumps hours range from 3000 to 10000+, Same has no clutch left and you couldn't purchase it anyway. Gear drive will let you work it even when the clutch is out but hydro won't if it is pump related. They all have there plus and minuses and it is a matter of what you want to work with and how much you can afford to operate with. I think this is a discussion dealers need to have but they rarely do unfortunately! Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting. We haven't uploaded a vid in a while as we have both been ill and suffered some flooding recently which caused alot of damage to our gardens and prep. Hope to share some stuff soon! Ric

@@CornucopiaFarmstead One thing my father in law learned by having both is that the much bigger Mahindra with shuttle/gears uses about the same fuel as the tiny Kubota hydro, and maybe even less while doing row work because it's so much more efficient and runs at lower RPMs and doesn't waste as much fuel. Sorry to hear about the land damage and sickness! Double wammy. You folks are strong people and you'll beat the storms of life. Yall hang in there! If we were neighbors i'd help you out.

I own 13 acres in north central West Virginia Ric. About 30 years ago I had a road built, 3/4 to 1 mile to the top of the hill. For some of the same exact reasons you just mentioned. Trees are like any vegetation that grows. Occasionally, you have to harvest. What a lot of people need to realize is its your property, your trees, you pay the taxes. If you want to cut a tree or build a road, its your property. In our State, theres certain times thru out the year that Loggers can't harvest timber because of Bats that are protected by our Environmentalists. I disagree with their logic.

Dean! Hey bud, hope you are managing well in this heat and maybe these storms are so bad in your area, hope you are well friend! Ya know you are right and I added that in because I know some folks(could that be considered a correct pronoun?)seem to get upset about things like that and bats and other critters or invasive plants and the like, lol! But really we make an investment then either we care for it or it just goes to waste and causes an ecological or invirommental problem that ultimately someone else has to pay and repair or what not. But regardless I know you have your head on your shoulders compared to many that have it placed somewhere else(wonder where that would be???). In the last year or little more we saw the wildlife population drop off along with other woodland creatures and it is just sad. But in the last few months we have seen an uptick in all of them! From waterfowl to turtles and the deer are coming back in. Now I can't say everything we have done is the single cause for it but I can for the turtles for sure(well almost sure?), I, we, love being outside in nature but most of all, enjoy our little world and we are gonna make the best of it not just for us but anyone we come in contact with! We sure appreciate you Dean sir and thanks for giving a shout out for us to Tony. Email me your mailing address and we wanna send you something sir! Always great to converse with you Dean, thank you sir!

@@uphillbattle6068 thank you Ric for your kind words. Its normally very hot and humid here. Just got to be careful and pace yourself drink lotsa of water and stay hydrated. I enjoy your channel very much Ric. You and Mel bring great content and your honesty speaks volumes. Seems a lot folks would rather disagree than try to fix their problems. Blame somebody else, its always someone else's fault. I can tell you always seem Positive Ric, that's a rarity we don't see much of today. Again, I thank you for your Patriotism, your hard work, and truthful reviews. Oneday, we all will have to meet our Creator and I hope too be humble and appreciative of all He has done for us. Have a great Independence Day ole buddy.
