The Star Wars universe has suffered a loss! The Acolyte, the ambitious High Republic series, has been canceled. But was it a wise decision? Join me as I dissect the show's strengths, weaknesses, and whether it deserved a second season.

100 percent the right call to cancel it. Disney needs to stop losing money and start making money

I think Disney needs to invest in good stories and not take a weekend to write a story that will inevitably become like The Acolyte.

I’m sorry but although the sequel trilogy broke the franchise beyond repair (undermining the story of the first six films with the empire rising back to power) the Acolyte should never have been greenlit in the first place It’s a movie intended to undermine the lore, to make a stab at the Jedi, and thus continue to undermine and deconstruct George’s story Why would anyone who values his work ever get behind Leslie’s proposal to do so. At this point they might as well make a whole different IP, one that functions as a deconstructive spoof of how they view Star Wars under George himself

Interesting fix idea, I do agree that the play on is it a twin, is it a split personality, is it a changelum/other shapeshift and only reveal at the end is solid. Ultimately I think a lot of the story issues came from the plot-driven nature of the storytelling, as compared to Character driven narrative of other Star Wars projects. Mae's Character felt more like a plot device than a real person with how wild her motivations swung seemingly episode to episode. Cheers mate.

I definitely agree with you, characters felt a bit like pawns and not like vital roles. If they had focused a bit more on the mystery aspect of the show and left the twin reveal at the end, things would have truly turned out different for this show!

You spoke about Ahsoka and The Clone Wars .... what I didn't like in Ahsoka was that it was very "poor" as far as plot was considered. There was I lot of repeating, a lot of slow silent movement ... a lot of filler. I definitely advice you to watch at least the first season of the Clone Wars in one 20 min episode of the clone wars usually there is much more content than in a 40 min episode of Ahsoka.

I definitely see your point, they did extend certain moments of Ahsoka so that it could fit into a series. Do you think an Ahsoka movie would have been better for you?

So I grew up when the prequels were made, I liked them, but wasn't a dedicated fan, but also didn't understand the hate towards them, it seemed a bit snobbish. At that time watched the Tartakovski Cartoon Network Clone Wars, and when I was how they ended and how this was the beginning of the Revenge of the Sith .... I was hooked. And what was feeding my addiction was lore, information about the Galaxy Far, far away. I wanted to know more and more, I loved how from a single frame in any movie they managed to create a whole world. And The Clone Wars had that, every frame every word, every action had meaning and was telling story, and what made it magical, was that it didn't look like fiction invented by screenplay writers, but it looked like stories told by witnesses of real events. There wasn't a second in both Clone Wars series that could contradict anything from any of the movies. Even the so hated hour and a half feature film, where they present Ahsoka for a first time .... I have seen that probably more than 40 times (at home of course). And before talking about Ahsoka, just to mention Rebels, not bad, but Sabine from that wasn't Sabine from the live-action. As I said in The Clone Wars every frame, every line spoken, every movement was telling some part of rich and realistic story, in Ahsoka every episode started with recap ( which for me is totally obsolete for a show on a streaming service) and after the recam 1/3 or sometimes, even more, the characters talk among themselves about what happened the previous one or few episodes. Every time there is opertunity to give us some new information ,,,, they decide again to repeat something that is clear, like when the Droid started to tell the history of the Jedi, or what was the meaning of Anakin an Ahsoka live action. And what was most off-putting for me was Sabine's role, her attitude towards everything and how this felt foreign for what I've seen as "normal" for tha SW universe. She was highly egoistic, without any remorse for the mistakes she did, she acted entitled we didn't get why she wanted to be a Jedi, what is so special about her, nothing about her Mandalorian heritage and at the end I didn't get why was so fixated with Ezra, as clearly there wasn't anything romantic between them, when they saw for firs time a expected some emotional burst .... nothing. You asked me if it was a movie and whether I would have liked it ... What I missed from this show was a clear timeline, for example how long has been since the Battle of Endor, what is the overall situation in the Galaxy, with that what roles have the Rebels fell into and what is their relationships, I would have liked if Sabine was still relying on her Mandalorian skills, but maybe to learn from Ahsoka to use the dark saber.. And one my personal favourite idea, that almost no one shares with me, In the Clone Wars the witches give forse powers to the brother of Darth Maule .... It would have been nice for Bailon to have arranged for Sabine such a magical ritual, and then we could have the moral dilema is it possible to use your powers for good if the origins of your powers are from the dark ... or something of the kind. Sorry for the long Post, but where I live there are no people with whom I could discuss Star Wars.

I really don't like the show as it is, but I'm open to a second season. This is controversial, especially nowadays, but I think that everybody generally deserves a shot at redemption, and most things have both ups and downs. Unfortunately, money and notoriety play a big role, so second chances are rare.

As open as I am to seeing these characters again, I really think that they should utilize them in a smart way

@@TheMovieSavanttrue! I personally think the characters had potential to be very fascinating if they and the story were portrayed well. As you said, the crew was good in their roles, too. But the writers sadly left a lot of all this untapped or poorly used. They need to change course significantly and be much more open-minded and creative to get the most out of this potential.
