For someone looking at buying some moving heads. there isn't enough explanation on the power and links to the parts outside of the moving heads

So you’re looking for the process of electrical connections and DMX wire hookup or proper DMX extension wire compatible with these YPS moving heads?

Hola buen video pero, Why do you place the MH with the orientation of the cables to one side? I think the most common and practical is to do it with the cables backwards. I imagine it is to start your programming at a starting point with PAN orientation=0?

@blinkysequences 11 месяцев назад
Thank you for your question! The decision to position the moving heads with cables to the side is based on their physical dimensions and how they fit in my show setup. These moving heads are slightly longer than they are wider, and this orientation allows them to fit more naturally within the designated space. As for starting at PAN orientation 127 as opposed to 0, setting them to PAN orientation 127 (which corresponds to facing forward) at the beginning of the sequence provides the flexibility to create movements that span both left and right directions. The PAN on these goes anti clockwise, so for example if you have them facing forward and leave them on PAN 0, if you wanted the head to immediately go right, it will have to rotate left 360 so it faces forwards again and then go to the right.

@@blinkysequences thanks for your answer. Yes I understand, I thought you did it to make it easier to import sequences from some vendors that have their MH oriented towards angle 0 (for example TOM sequences). In my case, my MH are facing the front and when I have to import sequences I have to add 90 ° offset. thanks your video is great

Hi, next year we will be adding more sequences with moving heads. I am currently in the process of making sure all existing sequences gets moving heads added to them.

what is wrong with the audio keeps cutting out sounds terrible and on interesting tutorial too but cannot understand somethings you are talkig about because of this.

Thanks for the feedback! I apologize for the audio issues. I've reviewed the settings and will ensure better quality for the next video. Stay tuned for an updated tutorial with the new moving head enhancements in xLights. Appreciate your patience!

the screen is so small I can't follow along ; audio quality sucks; too many assumptions that I understand the terminology; just in general this video needs serious work to make it beneficial..

Thank you for sharing your feedback on the video. I appreciate your insights. I'll address the screen size issue in the next video by using a better resolution, and I'll work on improving audio quality using after-production cleanup tools.

why does everyone make all these extra channels in XL for their moving heads for the dmx channels????? You can sequence these heads just using the standard DMX parameters quickly and no issues...They are Unnecessary now that the model will fade, and even change colors on the 16channel heads now. Just have to learn your heads, how they fuction at the settings of 0=255 for each channel, and how to use the value curves ESPECIALLY SINE.. Its really easy.......Now XL still wont show "prizms or GOBOs, but almost of those you cannot see outdoors without major environment help IE FOG/HAZE!! I never saw you set the "Slew Limit rate" Do you even know how to do that?? Trust me it makes a WORLD of difference in your sequencing... Sorry SMH....

Thanks for your comment! In my video, I do cover setting the slew limits at 5:05 (so I do know how :P ), and I appreciate your mention of the importance of this feature. I explain setting up extra channels, a method used by many vendors and thoroughly explained by Tom BetGeorge in a great VCS video : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hvhl8jCm0lw.html on why this is done. Having these setup will make the importing those vendor sequences way easier. Additionally, I'm excited about the upcoming xLights moving head model and effect by Gil, which promises to simplify things. Looking forward to exploring those enhancements when released!

@@blinkysequences when we purchased our heads 6 years ago ( yes we played with them a year before adding them into the show) We learned how the heads operate on each channel! We use a small $50 console from Amazon. Best learning tool ever for MH! This is one the most important thing ANYONE can do before ever using MH in their display, even before creating or purchasing a sequence from a vendor such as yourself. We were able to find best setting for pan and tilt that gave the best overall visuals and NOT light up the neighbors house on the hill behind us..! The vast majority of sequence vendors DO NOT EVEN OWN moving heads, Have NO IDEA how they actually work, set them up, remapping the channels from one brand head to another etc. We have had hundreds of PMs of from new MH users a that purchased sequences with MH in them, from sequence vendors us for help.. ( we do not ask who the vendor, cause we really do not care, but we always gladly help them). I will give many sequence vendors credit they do try to make them look "cool" in their sequences, BUT MH will NOT do many of the fast movements the end users are expecting...we know how fast we can move ours from trial and error. Again, you can do everything needed with the DMX slides. My biggest fear is this "upgrade messes up ALL the sequencing we have done using ONLY the DMX channels for our show ( over 50 sequences). MY only upgrades I would like to see in XL ( and I have asked for this many times on GITHUB is changing the "tabs " for the model so the user can select how many channels are needed per tab. Its a PIA when the channels/sliders you need to use are on 2 different tabs. WE have heads that have the Pan on channel 8 and the tilt on 10..( i bet you go look now LOL) also an actual "0 to 255" grid on the value curves would be NICE asset as a visual for adjusting them ( such as SINE). I just watched you explanation of setting the Slew rate. How did you acquire that setting?? do you know what the actual definition of "slew rate" is?? Just tossing a "guessed setting "in IS NOT the correct way to do it. (setting at 70?? might as well leave at 0), because that is a setting of 70 degrees of rotation per second, thats SLOOOWWWWW). 98% MH manuals from other users, and i have NOT seen that value in them ( unless you spend $5k on a MH, they do.) It's actually pretty easy to do. So let me explain what it actually is in lay man's terms. Its the reference in time on how many degrees can the moving head "pan" or "Tilt" per second. The easiest way we found to calculate this using our (heads for example) , our heads have 540 deg pan rotation and 270 Tilt. Create an animation sequence for just your heads. Using the DMX effect, make it for about 10 seconds at "255" pan so the head fully goes from park to full opposite lock. set another DMX effect right behind that for "0 pan ". Using a stopwatch (the one on your phone works great), play the sample sequence, when the see the head move from 255 to 0, hit start on the stopwatch, then stop when it gets to 0.. ON our heads it took 2.11 seconds to turn 540 degrees on pan. Just divide 540deg by the 2sec ( yes drop the .11) and you get 270 deg per second. THATS your CORRECT pan slew rate! repeat for tilt. Make 2 DMX effects for tilt, at 255 and the second at 0. run the sample sequence. Ours were 270degrees divided by .82 seconds, which is 329deg per second... THATS THE CORRECT SETTINGS without guess work.

Apologies for the delayed response. Agreed, it is basically time sitting in the chair and playing and learning them. The slew rate, I did mention in the video that it is how many degrees per second the pan/tilt moves. 270 you get is awesome. My outdoor ones are not so fast - mine is 170 (not 70). How I measured mine was slightly different (I will go try your method - I reckon it should be close to what i've got currently). How i measured mine was to set mine up to be horizontal, then I would pan around, I had the phone camera in front of it recording video. I then pan around and then pan back. I recorded 3 of the heads each 3 times. I then uploaded the video in a video editor cut the video into chunks starting exactly at a point (i think it was at 180, and then i would stop at 540). i then take the seconds that took for the 360 degree turn and averaged those out, I did the same for the tilts basically. Time will tell on the enhancements what will happen, hopefully wont have to redo anything, if it is a new model, then you can just keep the existing ones and everything should still just work :) Do you have a youtube channel or facebook page, would love to checkout some of your show.
