Exciting news about the restoration of our house in Portugal.
We bought an abandoned stone house in Central Portugal. Permissions and permits are needed to restore property in Portugal (even on buildings registered as houses or before 1951).
These can take a little bit of time to be granted.
We move some wonderful wooden boxes and uncover some treasures to save for future. When we move in.
And we take inspiration from the ancient Egyptians.

Love the Egyptian engineering! Totally agree with the comment about patience. It seemed to take an age to get our project started. But the wait will be so worth it! Keep up the good work, but don’t strain yourselves. Rome wasn’t built in a day!

O procedimento de utilizar troncos de madeira para mover objetos pesados, foi muito usado na construção de casas de pedra e nas praias para retirar os barcos dos pescadores para longe da água. Infelizmente, a burocracia em Portugal é desesperante e a única forma de preservarmos a nossa saúde mental é armarmo-nos de muita paciência e calma. Recentemente foi anunciado pelo governo, uma simplificação dos processos de avaliação e aprovação dos projectos de construção de edifícios. Não sei se a renovação está incluída.

A great couple and so hard working as there is so much to do around this old abandon farm and how clever they were in putting all their energy in creating a vegetable plot , planting fruits trees, and clearing the shrubs of those old trees.

I moved to an Okinawan island from mainland Japan. After having lived for over 20 years in, or close to, Tokyo, getting used to life here took time. I can sympathize with all you ever say about how things are in your new 'easygoing' home. Luckily our old house didn't have any nasty gunpowder treasure to be disposed of!!! Be careful with anyone you appoint for your house renovation work, go with architects' recommendations, and agree on a contract before proceeding with work. Portugal is currently struggling with a lack of good and recommended builders. I know someone who has been waiting for almost 2 years because their building quotes are astronomical. Good luck, and I hope all will work out for you!

It can be annoying to hear comments from people that have absolutely no knowledge of homesteading, farming building, restoring and yet have a lot to say about nothing cause they know nothing but need to say it nevertheless. You’ve taken on a big challenge when you took on this farm in a different country and language not your own and it appears that your going to have not only something worthwhile but beautiful in the end, so good luck, stay positive and don’t let some of these know it all’s get you down 😂

Wine battles make excellent planters (stating the obvious) and it depends on what the wood is like for other uses. Those boxes are huge, nicely done moving those! Planning, permissions, those are a frequent annoyance in Spain, Portugal, Italy. The house is far too large for just two people to get renovated, especially with falling stone walls. Patience definitely pays off, especially when the walls all need the filling with lime and sand. A good day's work done ✅
