EPISODE 102
In this episode we move Tally Ho!
Before the move we experience a crazy heatwave with record-breaking temperatures, and I have to take some drastic measures to keep the boat cool. Next we take the boatshed down, revealing the lines of the boat without any visual obstructions.
I also finally introduce the owners of the property where Tally Ho and I have been living for the past 4 years, Raul and Darlene. They tell a little part of their story and we all get a bit emotional.
Finally, Associated Boat Transport arrive with their amazing hydraulic trailer, they load up the boat, and thanks to some incredible driving we manage to squeeze her through the tiny gap between the house and the trees, with no room to spare! I have a hair-raising trip to Port Townsend watching my boat speed down the highway ahead of me, and finally we arrive safely in the new location.
Huge thanks to Associated Boat Transport for being so amazingly professional and efficient and taking such good care of Tally Ho!

Thank you Leo for letting me be a small part of this and trusting me with your pride and joy. I had a great time and I hope to be there when she hits the water. My dad is very proud you chose me to move it, he is proud of our company's history and happy we got to be a part of this. I forgot to thank him in the video, he is the reason this move was possible, he taught me everything I know about moving boats.

Leo...I was not prepared for such an emotional event...bringing Raul & Darlene into view for the first time for me really put me on my rear end. I fell in love with them both, their kindness and love for you. At 71, I have seen some pretty bumpy road in life with people & employees and had lost my admiration for the human race to some extent but having witnessed all that I have in these past years with your hosts and the numerous volunteers that have come and gone...I now have higher expectations for the human race, they just might make it after all...because of people like these. The new location is just what the Dr. ordered...a view of the Ocean, my tears are dried and my spirits are lifted and I wish you all the best!

Charles, I could not have said it better. I'm 69 and went through quite hard times in my life, often caused by selfish, ambitious POS. The last ones almost killed me by overworking me - after a 33 happy years career in publishing and advertising management. The last 3 years were awful. Promises they broke when they recruited me from my previous employer. If not for my marvelous friend and doctor, I would have killed myself, in dark, profound despair 15 years ago. My latest hit was on June 10 202, yeah a month ago, when my wife and best friend for 50 years this August, killed herself in our pool. Tough times again. As for you, looking on these good people brought my first smiles and good emotions in a month. Leo, his friends, Raoul and Darlene are such sweet, decent humans, they all brought me tears of happiness. Hats off to Tally Ho. I love you all. ❤️

I lived in B.C. back in the mid-'70s and sailed a Columbia 26 and a Coronado 32 into Pt. Townsend several times -- the '32 was kept at the Oak Bay Marina in Victoria back then. Good times. In the later '70s I got involved in boat moving. I leased a '73 KW to Boat Transit in SoCal. where I used their trailers and authority to haul mostly overdimensional boats through or to 46 of the 48 states. I can state without doubt that a boat hauler earns 80+ percent of his pay in the first and last half-miles of the run, even if there are 2500 miles in between. That said, it was this boat moving episode that got me started with the channel. I've been with it ever since, back and forth to the extent that this is my third run through the whole series, prompted by the launch video a couple of weeks ago. It's brought back many fond memories for me -- I'm 75.

I particularly love Megan's background (apologies if I got the spelling of your name incorrect.) I was a dairy farm kid so grew-up wrenching on machinery that was a bit bigger but the experience was very similar in many ways. I got into motorcycles early in my 20s and then had 20 years of the most amazing adventures on them - taking me from Cape Hatteras to Santa Cruz and so many points in between. I hung up my riding jacket for the last time for the foreseeable future a year ago for several reasons (I work from home and am married to someone who can't even be a passenger on a bike) and it brings a certain joy to me to see a young woman like you begin to have that as part of your life.

Yes that's exactly what it is. As a teenager I used to do a lot of hitchhiking and sometimes I would have a long wait for a lift and sometimes a short wait. The psychology of the hitchhiker is interesting. All the cars that drive by are, to a large extent, driven by people you don't want to meet. Without exception in my case, all the people that pick you up are people you do want to meet. So the car driver thinks they have selected to pick up the hitchhiker, but actually it's the other way around, the hitchhiker is selecting the nice people from the flow of cars.

I don't think I've ever commented on any video here before, though just have to after this one. You may not get this far, with 4000 comments already here, but I suppose then it's a public confessional. Having watched the progress - not quite from the start, but fairly early on - what you're doing, and have done, is absolutely class Leo (& co.). I've no connection to boating or the seas, but regardless all your videos genuinely - really genuinely - helped during some tough personal times. We're approx the same age so watching the progress made, even though much of the project's hardship is off camera, has been a yardstick of sorts. The energy and passion that everyone has is infectious, even after it's been edited, uploaded and sent across the world. Seeing Raul & Darlene was like a mirror to how I fell about your videos and the project, despite not knowing them (naturally enough). If you're ever in Dublin (Ireland, not Ohio), as you're making your way home and at a loose end, we'll put that right. So thanks again, I look forward to the next however many videos. Sláinte to all

@phillee2814

As an ex-trucker, I can say that reversing into the shed was the easy bit - the nail-biting was all on getting past the house extracting Tally Ho from her home over the last few years. I think you'd need a set of feeler gauges to accurately measure the clearance there, whereas a boatyard is laid out and geared up for boat movements.

Raul and Darlene you have gained a son …. Am delighted to hear how Leo came into your life and how you have helped him with his dream and how he has lifted Raul’s spirits and desire to continue once more. Having watched all the young men and women from all parts of the world volunteer and engage in this venture , even during the pandemic, truly tells us how lucky we are to have them help out and help them with their esteem and pick up invaluable skills …. The county will miss Leo and his team in the long run …… shallow and hollow threats …. We need more Leo’s in this world … cheers from Canada

Raul got me thinking of my granddad. He worked out on the waters his entire life, during my lifetime he was with the coastguard before retiring. My childhood is full off memories of being on the boat in the summers, bathing in the sea, my poor sister getting seasick and grilling the first fish I caught. I'm looking to buy a boat some day so I can go back to that island we used to visit in the summers. Thank you for bringing back such fond memories.
