Gabryel Lake we barely got any snow this winter though. It's really not that bad. And this is from someone that just moved here from The Bahamas 3 years ago.

Halifax and Sydney do not get much weather difference. Cape Breton is a bit more unpredictable, especially in certain months, although it can get warm on warm days - often exceeding Southwestern Nova Scotia I am just comparing

ancy samson I'm not saying don't move there if you like it - Cape Breton has some advantages over Halifax - it is cheaper and safer and friendlier but selling out may not be easy if you choose you don't want to stay there. Weather-wise it's more variable and less predictable but not too different overall but can snow more in winter than halifax the temps are similar much of the year though it changes a lot more and can swing around

The hot is wet and not dry

The summers are not dry like you're use to at home. They're very, very humid. Very sticky, gross, and humid! The nights are usually cold. Definitely bring sweaters for the night time. Especially if you visit in August!

I would look up "Apartments in Halifax" on Google and call the landlords to book tours! There isn't all that much in Halifax in terms of housing sites because the market is small and local.

Yeah, you're right. But for international students and people used to very mild winters, Halifax winters are bad.

Probably! Just wear a warm jacket and you’ll be okay. Get a nice Thermos or insulated mug so you can take coffee and tea on the go. Nothing like a nice chai tea in the winter while walking to a class.

Hello Milap! I am taking my BJH (Bachelor of Journalism Honour's) course at The University of King's College with most of my electives at Dal, so I spent about 50% or more of my undergrad time completing my credit hours at Dal. Dalhousie University is a good school but it can get repetitive once you go there for a while. In the winter it gets a little bleak and cold. It's not as cold as other parts of Canada, but there's a lot more snow. Yes, you will get time for a part-time job, but it will likely make you tired, so you'll have to hustle and take care of yourself. You'll be allowed to do 20 hours a week as an international student.

Public transportation is sufficient, though it's not as efficient as it could be. You'll need to budget enough time to wait for the bus and get to where you need to go. But you don't need a car.

Nader Nadernejad thanks for replying. What if i missed the bus and i'm running late, when is the next bus gonna arrive? I think what you're trying to say is it's not a necessity but it's better to have a car than rely on the public transpo..correct?

Old Heaven Yeah! It's a really small city and it's easy to start recognizing people if you get out a lot. You'll be able to find some friends pretty quickly if you try. Good luck!

Tobi Malik Lived in Hfx all my life. Don't be nervous. It's really not as bad as Nader is making it out to be. I've been working in tourism here and have met a lot of Texans. They love our summer. ( Although it's been in the high 90's for the last week) Winters can be a bit of a drag. Sometimes. But compared to the rest of Canada, we have it pretty easy. There's only a 50/50 chance of a white Christmas here. Don't let the weather scare ya. When you get here, gimmie a shout, I'll show you around.

Try the south end although it can be expensive. I’d stay away from the North End but that’s just my opinion. It’s still safe and “gentrified” but the South End would probably be more suitable.

I have a couple friends from Bangladesh who are studying in Halifax and love it. If you can afford it and want to work hard to get an education, it’s a great choice

This year we didn't have much snow, but we get more precipitation than most of the other provinces. Remember when we got 100 centimetres in 2015? If I told international students (many come from warm places without snow) that it barely snows in Halifax and they were greeted with up to 100 centimetres of snow, they will come to my apartment and kick me hard in the marbles.

I’m not affiliated with the pilot program, but what I recommend doing is finding the employers who are and reaching out to them yourself. If they choose to sponsor you, you’re set. See if you can send your resume, research their business and even send them a personalized video. That may inspire some of them to reach out to you and sponsor you especially if they are already part of the program.

I said Halifax is cold in the winter and that it gets a lot of precipitation. What part of that is off base? I make videos for international students, so if I say Halifax is warm and “temperate” because that makes sense to a Canadian, I’ll have a disgruntled, freezing student from Mumbai come to my apartment and kick my nuts.

I was thinking as a Haligonian and being in other parts of Canada in the winter, I know that Halifax is one of the mildest places for winter, especially being on the Atlantic Ocean with the salt water, fog, etc. I RETRACT my statement and I loved your reply. I also liked your video! :) It made me laugh and I understand where you are coming from. You are right...if you have a disgruntled, freezing student from Mumbai come to your apartment they may want to ....' Please forgive me and you really made me smile and enjoy reading your response.
