Arizona is a wonderful place to live. My ancestors have been living in Arizona for over 9 thousand B.C. but remember Arizona is still the wild west it can be very dangerous.

The average house is 500,000 dollars. Every car dealership charges over 2000 extra on the cars. If you make under $100,000, you will never be able to own a new house or car.
@LivinginPhoenixArizona
@LivinginPhoenixArizona 4 месяца назад
Your numbers are inflated my friend... but ... median home is $450,000 but you still buy homes under this price in some great new communities, property taxes are also some of the lowest in the country. MSRP is the same throughout the county BUT our sales taxes and registration are lower than west coast states so you'll may actually save money depending on where you are coming from. The median household income in Maricopa County IS $100,000 with the average of the people that are moving here at $150,000. It all depends on where you compare Phoenix to. If you are coming from a smaller town like in Kansas or Alabama, yes Phoenix is more expensive.

I live in chandler...since the 90s. Love it. My son is a PT in Mesa and commutes from San Tan Valley. He bought late 2019 when the prices and interest were low. The area is growing exponentially along with the prices. BTW, he was a Paddleboard and kayak instructor at Tempe Town lake. Unfortunately, his work takes up too much of his time.

I moved here a year ago into Arcadia. 28M just got a starter condo. The commute thing is something I’m worried about. I’m at the mba program at ASU and don’t know which job I’ll get in the area. It seems like the commutes vary, intel in chandler vs Raytheon or Honeywell etc. I’m hopeful Arcadia is central enough. What would you say is a good / average / bad commute here in Phoenix? Anyone else chime in please too.
@LivinginPhoenixArizona

Arcadia is pretty central, it all depends on how close you are to a freeway (51/101/10/143). Welcome to Arizona!
@danieldaniels7571

I’ve lived in lower Arcadia for seven years. It really is the best of everything in terms of location. Mere minutes from downtown, uptown, old town, the Biltmore, Sky Harbor, and downtown Tempe. And the light rail is really accessible with the park and ride at 38th Street. We also have quick service from Waymo, and all the essentials right here.

First thing, make sure you're making over 6k a month as you know renting requires your making 3 times the amount it costs to rent. Too learn where the crappy parts of the city are and avoid them at all times. Learn to act poor. Research your roads to work every morning.
@LivinginPhoenixArizona
@LivinginPhoenixArizona 3 месяца назад
This is why I always suggest apartments, easier to qualify for those not making 3x the rent. When they raised minimum wage so that people could 'live off these wages', it really messed up the economy.

@LivinginPhoenixArizona

All large metropolitan areas have a higher crime rate, that's why most people prefer to live in the suburbs outside of Phoenix metro. Overall, it's not unsafe when compare to any other city of it's size.

@LivinginPhoenixArizona
@LivinginPhoenixArizona 4 месяца назад
Tempe is actually the best in the southeast valley as they shoot fireworks over the town lake. Gilbert has moved to the incredible drone show which is a whole new experience but not like what we're used to. I myself head out of town every 4th of July because my pup has terrible anxiety. We head up to Kaibab National Forest every year as they do not allow ANY fireworks at all. Maricopa County is insane on the 4th, bottle rockets and m80s going off all night long. Not my cup of tea.

Thanks for reaching out, I am sure that a move like this may be very intimidating for you...you are not alone. As a Realtor, we cannot direct you to certain areas (or away from certain areas) but I will fall back on my #1 recommendation when relocating to a new city and that is to be within a 30-35 commute from your place of employment. There are several tech corridors in the Phoenix metro area with lots of choices within those 35 minute commute sheds.

The rest is running about $500/sf minimum with everything from architecture, land surveying, civil engineering, to permits, to utilities, roadways, curb & gutter, lighting, materials, labor and holding costs. With your quote of $400,000, that would be a home of about 550sf. Costs have skyrocketed.
