SPECIAL THANKS TO RALPH CELENTANO!
An RKO Radio Pictures comedy short starring Leon Errol and featuring Eddie Gribbon, Bud Jamison and Barbara Jo Allen, whom during World War Two became famous as the character of Vera Vague, a man-hungry spinster who performed in a number of comedies for Columbia Pictures. Modern audiences may remember her as Fauna, one of the three good fairies in Walt Disney's SLEEPING BEAUTY.

Many thanks for the share--I can never get enough Leon Errol and I've always adored Vera Vague/Barbara Jo Allen. Add Eddie Gribbon and Bud Jamison to the mix, and this short is comedy gold. More entertainment value here in 18 minutes than in most of the bloated 3 hour features in the theaters right now.

That was truly the definition of “having a bad day”!

From memory, Leon Errol was an Australian!he stared in many comedies between the wars. He made a number of films with the “Mexican Spitfire”, Lupe Velez!

I would guess the title is partially a pun on "moving van", a term that probably was still fairly new at the time. Someone should assemble a list of the puns in the titles of two-reelers, many of which are now obscure or outdated -- for instance, how many people realize the Three Stooges' "Horses' Collars" (1935) is a play on "horse scholars" aka experts on the subject of equine anatomy and activity?

I don't think the average movie fan(classic movie fan or not) would care if the movie title is a pun or not.

@@dariowiter3078 Obviously not. It's a niche thing at best. But the two-reelers in particular were prone to use punny titles -- many of them based on feature films of the day -- and that sort of insight into little details and the background of a flick can increase the enjoyment that even the average viewer gets out of it.

@@KenLieck very true. A bit off-topic....I have a fascination with film, 1900s up to the late 30s. Love Max Sennett comedies, Max Linder comedies, Edna May Oliver, Olive Thompson, Hal Roach etc! I have a vast collection of motion pictures including 2 reelers etc, Movie-tone, Pathe's newsreels. It makes me incredibly sad at the loss of many early films as a result of 2 fires (1937?), that destroyed a lot of films. I'd rather watch old newsreel films and early cinema up to 1940. Travel logs of the 1920s and 1930s are interesting too. I've been watching a family's travel around the world from 1910 to the late 1930s. They were obviously rich! All made with the father's movie camera. Egypt, Hawaii, Burma, Thailand etc are shown. Name a movie, documentary, or actors and I'll probably have it!

@@prudencepineapple9448 Nice. You gotta love the swimming pool they unearthed awhile back that had been landfilled with old film reels. Are you familiar with the George K. Mann stuff (ru-vid.com/group/PLU1v01ZO7IgsUhxhY_IJxa23qiFwVWMaZ)? I have a feeling there's a whole shit-ton more of this that hasn't been shared, just as when Columbia Records put out several WC Field albums they indicated that was a mere fraction of what existed... @prudencepineapple9448 Nice.
