Pat Ganahl visits Mox Miller to examine his perfectly perserved 1958 Chevy Impala show custom. Mr. Miller is the original owner and the amazing custom work was completed in the early 1960s.
Fifty-two years ago my parents had a solid black ‘58 BelAir, 348-4barrel, chromed edition. I loved this car! It was the first car I ever drove and it broke my heart when my Dad sold it to a friend for $100! It developed a dime-sized hole in the tailpipe and the bigger it got the better the exhaust sounded…organic glass packs? 😂. Great video and thanks for the memories! ~Jim~
I saw that panel painted 58 in a car magazine when I was 6 or 7 and it burned a hole in my brain.Just a small pic of it sitting at an indoor car show. Might even been in black + white, cant remember. Not sure if it was R+C or HR I thought it was some highly modified custom and I am amazed when I was older it was all in the paint scheme. #1 58 of all time.Myself, I would have to run this on the street though. Mox Miller you're a King in my book. 58 truck is Bitchin' as well..Love to see the collection in person.
Everyone else likes the tri-five Chevys and they're nice. I wasn't born until 68 and my normal projects are "square body" (GM called them Rounded Line) trucks. However, I fell in love with the 58 passenger cars watching American Gaffetti and if I could find one to restore for a reasonable price I'd haul it home today! Beautiful car in this video and the truck is awesome too...I'd be proud to be the caretaker of either one!
Thankyou guys for creating an absolute perfection. Outstanding, incredible and a testament to your fantastic workmanship that they both still are in A1 Concourse condition. Again, thankyou for showing us and thankyou for creating a hobby that all good people love. You guys are the best.
+ perish hilton. ..... that's a true car nut there, he might need a part off of another motor, so keep the lot, right...? .....how crazy is that.......to quote Scottie D.
Smart guy I sold everything 86 mustang,87 Buick gran national, 1968 Impala 72 Cadillac 76 RX4, man I wish I would of kept any of those cars now I'm saving to get a good deal on anything from back then newer cars] are cool but not like this
If they kept it garaged in southern California, it doesn't matter how long they had it there. They're both fantastic examples of of 1960s show vehicles. Everyone who sees this car will give you much respect because you've preserved this piece of automotive history. All we can say about all that chrome is, WOW, Shiny! Your dad's truck is awesome as well! Your gold 58 Impala is nice. Since you're not into selling anything, perhaps you should see about finding, restoring, and preserving one of each of the 1958 Chevrolet cars and trucks ? We're hoping . If you decide to take our suggestions, we'll be happy to send you whatever research we've already done to show you which models are needed to complete your collection.
for all that say what a waste letting it sit in garage, this is probably the best way to preserve it. At 4:50 he says the previous paint hair crack with the sun. why would he make same mistake twice.
My aunt had a garage kept '60 that she drove up until the early 90s when she bought a used '87 Caprice and sold the '60 about 5 years later to a guy for $400.
It cracks me up all these people that say he should drive the car...he bought it, he built it, he turned it into something that makes him ( and alot of people) happy just the way it is...it's modern art...it's not sitting in a field getting worse by the day..it's a perfectly preserved time capsule...if you don't like it build your own
Somehow, the 58 Chevy has become my favorite 50s Chevrolet. It actually is the least "crazy" 58 GM automobile IMO. And, it is quite nice! (not that I would not enjoy a 58 El Dorado).
HEHE take them to a carshow now 50+ years later , and they are still gonna get the same attention.. let these old ladies back in the spotlight :) they still got it
awesome car ! and its great that he doesn't drive it or it would be ruined especially being lacquer paint it would check real bad and run a masterpiece... I totally get it....
All the 1958 GM cars were real bombs; normally, most car makers would keep a basic design for three years or so with moderate changes before a massive re-design; the 1955-57 GM cars, particularly the Chevrolet are a great example of this. But the radical redesign of the 58s only lasted a year; gee, I wonder why.
Because GM was caught off guard by the Chrysler corp sleeker forward look cars . in personaly love the 58 chevy and wish the body style had lasted longer than it did.
Did this Mox Miller also have a 1968 Camaro funnycar that was black with rainbow colored lace and flames? His name has come up recently in some discussion boards... This is one bad 58!!! Thanks for posting, same goes for the truck!!!
There are enough fine examples of factory stock cars out there ;) . Usually the custom builders/hot rodders/lowriders take an old rusted out car and restore it the way they like. Its better than leaving it slowly dying in barn or woods. If all the cars would look the same as they came out from factory, the world would be boring place. I agree that classy original car is nice and cool, but there are plenty of them, they are not extinct.
