After clicking my CSL DD off of PC mode 3 times already while racing, I am very happy to know that this unit has the switch in the back. Hell yea! bye Fanatec
@@OCRacing hey dude love your contact barely started watching your videos yesterday because I was looking into buying a wheel for the first time. I need a beginner whee. I need recommendations to get the Logitech G923 or Thrustmaster T248 i wanna do sim racing on gt7 and also drifting.
@@OCRacing Yes i saw it yesterday but I see you said both are really good! I like the drifting scene on racing games too so im going towards the Logitech. I just don’t know what wheel is more old and witch one will have more support on games over the years.
@@solidghostz6683 the T248 is about a year newer. That being said, with the popularity of Logitech wheels, support for them won’t be leaving anytime soon. (Or ever tbh)
I just purchased this wheelbase with the GS wheel and it is about $300 Canadian dollars more than the Thrustmaster wheel im replacing. I have the Thrustmaster TS XW racer with the sparco 310 wheel rim. The difference between these two wheel bases and wheel rims is night and day. $300 dollars more seems more than fair to me for how much of an improvement this actually is.
if theres anything ive learnt over the last couple of years of sim racing its that fanatec's SDK is where the real value is at, ive bounced between fanatec gear with the clubsport 2.5, DD1 and went over to simucube with the 2 pro and then sold that and gone back to fanatec with the dd pro now and something that always makes me happy is how fanatec just works thanks to its SDK integration, i thought the hardware of the simucube 2 pro was amazing, smoother than fanatec, more options for dialling the hardware in precisely etc but there were times it was simply not right, euro truck sim 2 for example was simply one of the worst experiences ive had with a wheel, no wheel spring return to centre for some reason i could never figure out making the game almost unplayable. it was something like this that was a reminder how strong fanatec's integration into games is, it really does just work even if in my opinion its not the best hardware and i say that as a current dd pro owner, but i was always going to feel that way coming from a simucube 2 pro. so this is something ill always be weary of for newcomers to this space, sometimes you just cant step into it and have it go as smooth as you like, the competition is more fierce in other areas than just the hardware spec.
Loads of people have thr skills to make good to great hardware hardware. Not many have the skills to make great software. That's probably where fanatecs biggest investment goes.
Great video ! The "vibrations" you felt were from the game and it's not specific to the R9. There's a setting in AC that creates that canned effect. Also, you can buy a quick release and wheel for under $200 and you're racing with this base ;-). The offerings under $200 from Fanatec are garbage.
I don't really see the price of their wheel rim as a big downside. Contrary to Fanatec's offerings you can put on any wheel you want. So let's go for an assembled GT3-style wheel from Kapral for 225€ and a wheelspacer for 30€ so it's easier to mount and boom, competitive pricing. Heck if you don't mind DIY'ing something you can get away even cheaper. The best part is if you decide to upgrade your wheelbase to a Simucube or VRS you can just take the rim with you which you can't with Fanatec's stuff.
@@victorginervalverde6550 Looks like D1 Spec (10 bearings, most clones have 8 so be careful) will fit onto whatever comes with the base, Simagic will too. If you're only ever using one rim though you can just bolt the spacer directly to the shaft and your rim. If you're not interested in their power delivery system you can also just put on your own QD.
@@akramazimie905 Yes its D1 Spec QR Moza also sell these so you can actually do exactly as suggested. There is also a cheaper rim coming from moza to fill that gap. We have had our R9 for 6 weeks now using it daily without issues. We even have an adapter allowing us use with Xbox/PS aswell! Its a great unit!
@@benllewellyn1888 I haven't found the official Moza QR for sale anywhere, not even their own shop (edit: nvm literally just showed up). Also, about the adapter, is it just the common GIMX+DriveHub combo PS5 users are using rn or sth else? Bc I'll deffo need one if it's something else lmao.
ill definitely be looking to see how the base holds up to abuse over time and if its reliable it would for sure be a good purchase, hopefully itll be good and they can release more stuff
Console support it take consuming time to make circuit board to compatible with console and sometimes need license from console vendor like PS However you might check IMMSource product, i believe it support PS5 consolde or you can try play adapter like GIMX but it require pc to configure
I actually ordered it and am waiting. I actually have the CSL DD and am I very excited. I also have the Mclaren wheel with upgrades. When you factor in metal QR and magnetic paddles the prices are closer. Additionally, I don't see $499 wheel as high end. It is more mid range with great features. Which is why I bit the bullet and took the plunge. I wanted a cube controls or ascher wheel but those to me are high end and much more expensive. I would have gladly spent $500 on a fanatec wheel like this since I only use 1 for Formula and GT Racing.
I have been using my R9 with the GS wheel for a week now. i am loving the FFB and the many options to dial it in the my own feelings Pit House is very easy to use. As for the price of the wheel if you compare it with a V2.5 with the dual clutch module the price is around the same, GS wheel is nice to use comfy and looks good
Not sure if you're referring to the drive hub, if so then no, it's not on the list of supported products. Perhaps in the future with an update from drivehub
@@OCRacing Ah! Good to know there might already be a solution. I’m always wary of adapters since there is no “big standards” of force feedback protocols so it’s either baked in the wheel firmware or it’s interpreted by the adapter as a sort of driver or it’s a mix of both. In any of those case it might be janky/less precise. I will wait to see some review and videos of people using the base on the consol then. I have all my time, I’m waiting for the big thrust master/fanatec showdown to choose my side!
Yes, any company that moves into the DD market for consoles is an automatic player, since it is only fanatec that is currently in this space and they don't ship globally.
the R9 with gs rim is $1000 vs moza r16 with the gs rim is $1300 vs alpha with gt4 rim with clutch paddles equal to the gs rim $1600 vs DD1 base only $1200 to me the extra $300 to get the r16 is the way to go. In time with firmware and driver updates there only going to get better. Right now R16 is just a little mechanical feeling which I;m sure they'll work.
So i just bought this wheel base with the GS wheel and i live in canada. Im replacing my thrustmaster ts xw sparco 310 wheel, which i paid $999.00 canadian dollars for. I looked at the fanatec csl dd with the booster kit and the mclaren gt3 wheel and it totalled $1150 after shipping, i Payed $1400 for the moza setup after shipping after doing my research. The GS wheel offers many more features than the mclaren wheel and the wheel base is more powerful and just as smooth as the fanatec. I feel that your comments on the eco sustem cost are not quite accurate. To get the same wheel in a fanatec to match the gs wheel your looking at over $350 canadian and it is a smaller diameter wheel. I understand that if you already have fanatec gear then its going to be more cost effective but if your switching from logitech or thrustmaster then i feel like the pricing is in line with fanatec gear. Great review. Keep up the good work👍
Just ordered the R9 base and now I'm binging reviews xD Doesn't the ES wheel fit the R9 base? The ES wheel seems like a good budget "Do-it-all" wheel with the 12inch and formula mod you can buy to it. I myself ordered a AliExpress 13inch wheel and adapter at first. Saving up for a Moza Racing wheel later.
Having never driven a CSL DD, or any other DD wheel, I’m going to say the Fanatec is better. Probably because I’ve only owned Fanatec gear as a sim racer Lol.
I own fanatec for years. Have V3 inverted pedals, shifter, handbrake and couple of rims. To me this moza r9 looks better made than Fanatec DD. From materials, software and internals if I look at barry's video. Alpha mini also looks great, but in my opinion is lacking great steering wheel with good set of buttons and dials like this GS wheel. I have had moza camera gear and it did feel great quality. I hope their budget steering wheels will mot be too plasticky like fanatec. Have been disappointed with lack of progress of famatec. The dd wheels could have been so much greater. Build quality and construction and software is lacking in my opinion. Even to come up with proper quick release has been a failure. I'm worried since fanatec has grown so much it has translate to lower quality products I was used too with all my clubsport stuff.
I'm ordering this! Glad I hesitated on the Fanatec DD...and I'm a CSR Elite base owner....consoles are not real sims anyway...gud decision for pc only!
@OC Racing Now if Moza made at least one steering wheel at the $200 mark. Honestly, they could get away with a $250 wheel rim and it would be a massive boon for the wheelbase. I imagine they'll offer a package that discounts an included wheel rim at some point.
@TooManyChoices1 For someone on PC and fed up with Fanatec's QA and customer service, you can bet your sweet ass that it's a direct challenge to Fanatec. Especially with Fanatec's wheel rims now costing $50 shy of Moza's equalivents... It's all kinds of challenging Fanatec! But yup. Fanatec has console slaves to rely on, so they can continue to rest on their laurels, right?
I'm fairly certain it shouldn't spin like a death cyclone if driver loses grip. I think you are missing a checkbox or have a misconfigurstion sonewhere. The software should sense the loss of resistance almost instantly. My guess is that your sampling rate / resolution setting isn't acquiring wheel position/ load level frequently enough or safety options aren't enabled perhaps? Is there a separate software suite for the motor configuration (like software made by/for MOZA to configure the motor/wheel, and not the settings in your sim-race software/game/Forza/GT7, etc so much.... I'd expect those to be fairly generic and not detailed enough. Do you think the 9 is a much better motor than their 5 DD drive motor? If you can feel loose gravel, curb hits, loss of traction. Hydroplaning effects with the 5 that'd make me happen. I don't need wrist snapping torque, just want to be sure there's enough to feel "real" (ish) Thanks for the review man. Appreciate your work/time checking thus thing out.
If you don't need paddles or buttons, buy a QR D1SPEC and an OMP trecento steering wheel and you'll have it for €150, play Rally with sequential, I do it...
Thanks for the review, excellent as always. I have not looked into this myself, and I was wondering if this is PC compatible only, or could it be used with a PlayStation 5 as well?
@@Trex3n20 thanks for the reply. Yeah, I found out it's only for PC. Sucks. Waiting for another company besides Fanatec to make a plug and play direct drive wheel for both console, and PC. One that doesn't require some sort of adapter.
Do you need to buy a moza wheel for this direct drive or could I just order a regular car wheel with an adapter like I'm currently running on my pxn v10?
Probably not now but definitely in the future I’m sure. Like he said it just came out March 10th so even if there’s no manufacturer support there will be public support soon
yeah its fully supported just buy the D1 spec QR attatch to your wheel of choice and off you go. Ofcurse if you have buttons on the wheel they will need to be powered by USB as with most third part wheels.
I don't think my PC has bluetooth so I'm guessing that's going to be a problem for the wheel. Would a bluetooth adaptor cause lag issues between the wheel and the PC?
The need to come out with a basic universal wheel hub and one with a button layout on it do you can just slap a cheaper 70mm wheel or your choice similar to the fanatec csl universal hub
could you just use the base without the wheel, and get a 3rd party usb wheel with appropriate wheelside qr? because if that works this would be amazing, and you'd propably have to get one of those anyway for the next cheapest (non fanatec) dd, vrs DF pro
@@alidark8397 There are kits that convert the fanatec wheels to usb power. Ive only seen others that have done this so have a search and you should find the kits online.
Not only the wheels are 500$ but the pedals too so in total you going for 1200$ + VAT because it's excluded in listings. So final total is 2000$ (with shipping 260$). No flippin way this competes with fanatec
Yepp and its gonna take MONTHS... MONTHS WHEN U PAY THAT FUCKING MUTCH FOR SHIPPING... i order r9 wheelbase said it was in stock but wasnt so now they cant even estimate how long it will take THEM to get it cuse none of their suppliers have it in stock cuse noone wants to have it in stock cuse they dont wanna pay for the shipping from moza and their suppliers... 440$ is not true, and and they should also include that its NEVER in stock cuse noone can make a profit unless its sold for twice the price and they hide it until ur at the last checkout, if ur then willing to pay that price then ur also gonna have to wait months... and if u dont order all at once ( like me cuse im poor ) you can imagine how fucking long its gonna take before i can start use it... atleast a 6months to a year... ATLEAST!!!
They are solid! We have been using ours for 6 weeks. This rim is a lot better than the fanatec equivalent. I have both rims here so im not just using hearsay!
crazy part is they def listens to this video he’s their cheapest wheel is $279 total how ever your not getting a gt style wheel with shift lights and hand clutch
Just a piece of advise for anyone thinking about buying anything from Moza Racing. I hope that this is not the wrong place to add this, in case it's not feel free to delete it. I'm not going to give all details about the current situation but I'm force to bring American Express to a legal claim agains this company for totally ignoring several issues with their R9 and the FSR Formula Wheel that I bought a few weeks ago. The main message here is that if you get into troubles with their products you could receive the same unacceptable support I'm receiving which it is currently been totally ignored. The base and wheel are failing since day one. I have been supplying videos and telling them about the shifting issues and the noise coming from the base and they are basically not acting as you will expect (last news received 7 days ago). There are multiple issues with the base and the wheel.... tried all kind of things to make them work but they are somehow damage or something went wrong on the assembling process. This is just a message to let you guys know that you could be facing the same level of support. In case of anyone wanting to know more let me know. I can show you the videos that are showing some of the issues I'm dealing with.
It doesn’t also support Xbox sounds like, so that’s a no go for me… Oh and I’ve already ordered the CSL DD with booster and I’m just waiting since I already have the rest of the Fanatec setup.
Just a heads up for anyone looking to buy Moza, my r9 wheel base that is less than 3 months old failed and also the quick adapter broke, I was in touch with Customer service but they stopped replying to me all together. Look elsewhere or buy from a US retailer. Do not buy directly from them, they’re based in china so there’s nothing else I can do but take an L.
Oh absolutely. I just got my base in yesterday and 9nm is too much for drifting. 9nm overall is a lot! 50% was great. The wheel self steers quick. Man it’s a game changer coming from a Thrustmaster tx. I really cannot imagine 25nm. My arms would snap.
@@OCRacing okay that's sweet look forward to the other 11 product reviews... I'm just saying if you say something is "coming soon" then do it soon... month or 2 later is not " soon " or maybe don't take on so many products all at once.. quality not quantity
No still going strong, I have had the pit house crash once but as soon as i restarted it all was fine, Ps some people don't realize Pit House must always be running No issue with the base and no issue with the wheel. And i think the R9 is more than enough for most. Looking at getting either the dash next or a new wheel .
exactly what i though, unless they release another midrange steering wheel, the final price of a set will be the same than a fanatec... and being a brand new company.... fanatec takes the shot now. Im seriously thinking about buying, but if i have to pair it with a 500 euro wheel.... psa, not that appealing
Im an xbox user and I found out you can only use the wheel from the r3. Im planning on getting just the wheel and then buying just the r9 block but I don't know if it's worth it.
I will never understand the sim wheel with all the buttons come on do you really need all that the wheels could be so much cheaper its crazy to me but that is just me
these days with some sims, they simulate the complexities of F1 wheels, have you seen them? So much buttons!! Do you really need all those buttons, no, not really, but they are there for the people that do.
I only do drifting and rally and both of them I don't need buttons on my wheel so I can buy a qr and a cheap wheel but it would be nice if they had a low end wheel option. If I knew how reliable is wheelbase well be I would genuinely considerate but I'm planning on buying a vrs just cuz I know it's most likely going to be reliable. Reliability is the whole reason I'm not getting geting a t300. Also the vibrations you notice in assetto Corsa did you have the effects all turned to 0%
Well in terms of the base alone the R9 is still cheaper than Accuforce V2 and CSL DD + boost kit, and Moza does release the cheaper wheel options (CS wheel), half the price of their flagship wheels. It's only avaliable in China atm though, but surely they will release that wheel (and the SRP pedals) to international market soon.
@@OCRacing That and 500 dollar wheels 😵💫… My Fanatec gear still going strong minus the CSL wheel base that broke finally after tons of hard use. But the Xbox wheel, old CSL elite pedals , clubsport handbrake, and clubsport SQ/7sp shifter will all just bolt up to the new CSL DD wheel base when it arrives. If it ever ships😓 lol …
@@CoyoteRacing but you dont want such a expensive kit of around 1000 dollar depend on a hub. It should work native, just like Fanatec did with the DD Pro, by including the Ps chip and also working on Xbox with an Xbox compatible wheel.
@@giogamer4825 yes but to do this you have to hand over huge amounts of money and the price is higher for the DDpro to reflect this. its a seperate unit to the normal fanatec CSL DD the hub used for these is called Ras1ution 2 for Ps5 or 1 for PS4 and Xbox etc. Works great
