For a very detailed, written account of my experience running the Mozart 100, check out my blog post here: www.runningcafe.online/post/my-experience-running-the-mozart-100km-by-utmb-austria All of the gear I use for running, and to make my videos, is linked in the description. 👟 🎥
I think I watch this video once a day and every time i watch it at 7:18 in I think "How bloody close was the van to knocking that guy over!?". Doing the Mozart 100 in 3 weeks time so I'm excited and nervous in equal measures as this will be my first 100km. Great video, mate, and I just must remember it's basically an eating competition with distance in between each sitting
Cool way to honor Mozart. To my knowledge he ran distances similar to the 10k, not ultras. There were ultras back then, but they were connected to bars and pubs and gambling.
Thank you! So sorry to hear you were one of the 139 but that's understandable; this was a very tough course indeed! We've all had DNFs also, so you'll only come back stronger. Best of luck for your next attempt, you'll smash it!
Thanks Stephen! This was a fantastic course. I'd highly recommend it to you if you can get out to Austria and give it a crack. Would make a brilliant film my run video. Cheers mate
Thanks! The terrain was much easier than the terrain in UTS in my opinion. In the Mozart there are a few rocky sections but nothing too crazy, and also some dodgy bits regarding tree routes underneath your feet on some of the climbs but all fine
Wow mate. That looked incredible. Huge congrats in getting to the line and sharing your experience with us all. I can’t see how you can go back to the Thames Path after going to a place like that!!! 😂
Thanks for that, Phil. Much appreciated! The race was nothing short of epic and the views were incredible. Haha, the Thames Path does seem a bit bland in comparison but I will be back to take it on again next year for sure!
Great job and really solid video. I’m running the 80k version this year. Any tips on pacing? The first half looks pretty tough so I’m trying to get an idea and not go out too fast. Nice work either way!
Thanks very much. Good luck for the 80km. Personally, I would use poles at the earliest opportunity and let your arms help your legs. Also, get on your nutrition early. The sun can be brutal out there. If you just want to finish, just enjoy it and focus on the incredible surroundings. Your pace will follow naturally
No way! Ive been on the start with you at 4 races now and not seen you once. Really wsnt to say hi, thats mozart, thames, 100 hills and another i forget. That schafberg climb was vial right! I stayed in the raddison near the start right on the river ❤
That's absolutely bonkers. 4 races together and we've never seen each other, what are the odds? The Schafberg climb went on and on and on and on. Honestly thought it would never end haha. Hope you enjoyed your day, it was an epic race!
@@runningcafe1 i would have looked for you at mozart if i knew youd be there. You need a race diary video saying where you will be lol. If schafberg had been 10 more mins when i got to the top, id have broken tbf. I found the race harder than 100miles lol
@@kristinjensen5367 I think the intervals between trail and tarmac were fairly decent, so it shouldn't be too much of a hinderance hopefully. There is one very long straight of about 3 miles in the latter half of the race, it's covered somewhere in my video, where it's all on road for ages. That being said, I personally found it okay so fingers crossed it's alright for you too. Best of luck when the time comes, it's a top race. Absolutely loved it!
What an amazing accomplishment! Proper respect to you for your run. And what a beautiful race it was. So glad I subscribed some time back, or likely would have missed this video.
Great and well done! I ran the mozart100 too this year and the ascend to Schafberg seemed to last forever. Incredible race and nice to re experience some memories trough this video
Great video Craig. Congratulations on a fantastic run. I wasnt aware of this race but I'm super eager to participate. I went to a Summer wedding in Ellmau a few years and was blown away by the scenery up there in the mountains. I hope you dont mind me asking a couple of questions? Is there an points based entry criteria (I've only ran 2 x 100km races before)? Did you buy a travel package and if so what was the rough cost? Huge thanks.
Thanks Harvey! It was a brilliant race, I'd highly recommend it. There were no minimum entry requirements from memory, although having run a couple of 100ks like you outline is good experience. I'd also recommend some mountain ultras or mountain races for a bit of experience in climbing/technical terrain, if you haven't already done so. No travel package. I booked the flights and accomodation myself. It was quite expensive for the flights as I've been informed this is out of the busy season for Austria, as it's usually very busy in winter with all the skiing.
Amazing! Very well done. Great running, great video, lovely cows. I dnf, timed out after the last big climb, still loved it but gutted not to get to the finish. will be going back next year to try again.
Thanks very much! Sorry to hear about your did not finish but at least you kept going till the very end. It's a very tough course, definitely the hardest I've done so far. Best of luck next year, you got this
Hello again, just back from from Mozart 2024, pleased to say I finished this year. Very different from last year, 16 degs and rained from start to end. Watching your video again it's like a different event!
stunning! brutal and stunning! You looked like you completely enjoyed that and rightly so. Huge well done for getting it done and in such a wonderful way. What is next on your list? (other than a well deserved rest obvs!) :)
@@runningcafe1 ohh I'm doing RTTS too (50km day 1). What start time are you? I'm not starting til 8.10 which is later than I'd hoped but could be worse. Best of luck, hope you enjoy it, my local turf is the Ridgeway (I live in Oxford so it's nice and close)
@@nicmarlow6388 No way! I'm not sure what time I'm starting yet as I booked it very late, hopefully not too late. Maybe see you there. Best of luck to you and enjoy your day!
