This performance should have millions of views... But considering the fact that I can't stop replaying it again and again it will probably have millions of views soon.
I saw Gulda with Chick Corea in Amsterdam , two pianos .It was a feast! And this man plays Mozart like no other,it goes straight to the soul. What an artist
GULDA Mozart Abbado : che emozioni ! Credo che insieme alla interpretazione di HÉLÈNE GRIMAUD sia tra quelle cose che è difficile definire umane...grazie
This is by far the best performance of this piano concerto ever! Such a deep understanding of each note, phrase is beyond believe. The best way to understand what I mean is to compare it with the great Horowitz. With Gulda each note speaks, while Horowitz simply plays notes, scales etc. but the true spirit is not there. In Gulda´s performance speaks Mozart via God himself. Amen.
Gulda had an unmistakable feeling for Mozart and whatever he did Mozart would certainly approved. As far as Abbado is concerned, he studied piano with Gulda in Salzburg.
Thanks for your comment, but "warm" is not a suitable standard to characterize Mozart's greatness. In a documentary of Karl Böhm, he stated that in Mozart music contains all the emotions of mankind. The reason I adore Gulda than all others in Mozart, is his deepest love and admiration to Mozart which really touch me when listening to his performance. Gulda, in his documentary, considered Mozart was the greatest of all mankind apart from the Christ Jesus.
I did not know that Abbado studied with Gulda! Cool. I agree Gulda had a feeling for Mozart. But Mozart did not expect anyone to play the bare note passage at the end of the slow movement as written-he expected the part to be filled in. And Gulda was a jazz player and improviser, and so I would have expected him to take the opportunity to fill in. And yes, playing it as written is very effective too, so I certainly do not object.
..This is amazing.. Gulda has it all: the simplicity, the singing tone and the effortlessness.. I feel I understand Mozart having listened to his playing. Still, seems undue to say that Horowitz does not capture the spirit of Mozart, in my opinion..
Mozart himself played a dry touch a dry piano sound with pianoforte. His letters uncover unvei his playing. But with playing with a modern grad scale Steinway situation is totally diffirent.I do like an authentic way of playing of Mozart or Rachmaninov.Rachmaninov played his concertos an anti romantic fashion. The colorful playing of Mozart make more justice to Mozart than a boring dry style.Mozart lived in the era of sturm and drang
I like Glenn Gould version of Mozart piano concerto 24.Only ones better Grigory Sokolov and Maria Grinberg. But Glenn Gould played Mozart piano sonatas very strange way.Glenn Gould is suprisinly good also Beethoven sonata 17th the tempest and Chopin piano sonata
Curious that Gulda, of all people, played the music as written in the very spare section at the end-it is effective, but almost certainly not what Mozart intended. I wonder if Abbado was the influence here. (remember the scandal about Grimaud wanting to play something other than Mozart's written-but clearly optional- cadenza and Abbado withdrawing from the project)
My God, I think you just forgot Glenn Gould to make this list complete. I wander where you got your music education (if any). Sorry for this comment but I havn´t read something like that for long, long time.
i like more mozart 23 players like lupu horowitz ashkenazy sokolov anatoly vedernikov rubinstein.i believe they have a warmer and better piano tone than gulda.Gulda has a bright tone.Solomon cutner has a little bit a woody tone
Quién traduce lo que escribimos? me parece un verdadero desastre. No reconozco nada de lo que expreso, tampoco alcanzo a entender lo que quieren decir los otros. Por favor hagan algo para mejorar esta cuestión. Gracias
there are better mozart players like lupu gilels rubinstein maria grinberg stanislav bunin laura mikkola anatoly vedernikov sokolov ashkenazy horowitz alexei lybimov.they have a warmer piano sound than gulda. and they are a more vital performers
