What a beautiful piece. Full of that classical feel everyone of his symphonies have... and if you didn't notice in the implementation of the 1st movement, there's the motiv of The 4th movement of Jupiter... Also I'm trying to relize how Mozart would've felt that there's now chocolate balls named after him. Would he eat them?

Notice at 2:42 Mozart presents a famous phrase which he later employed in his "Jupiter" Symphony, No. 41. He must have liked the idea. Interesting, isn't it?
@Timrath
@Timrath 9 лет назад
Except, it wasn't his own idea. He borrowed it from a Gregorian chant (Pange lingua). Many composers in his time used that theme, and Mozart himself used it in 5 of his symphonies and several religious works. It's a weird that in our time, things that were commonplace and recognised as quotes back in old times, are today believed to be inventions of famous people, only because we have forgotten all the other works that contained them. In a similar vein: Handel did not come up with his famous Sarabande himself; Pachelbel did not invent the chord progression of his famous canon; yet, when people hear something similar in other composers, they instantly assume that the lesser composers borrowed from the greater ones. In truth, the great composers "stole" quite a lot from composers who are today mostly forgotten.
@andrews582
@andrews582 9 лет назад
Timrath Thanks for the interesting comment on "borrowed" themes. I had no idea that Mozart's "Jupiter theme" had such ancient provenance.
@edwardhoward5525
@edwardhoward5525 9 лет назад
Timrath Wow! That's an awesome comment. You find the same theme in the finale of Haydn Symphony no 3 which is where I had assumed Mozart had got it from. I wonder where the Gregorian monks got it from!
@alexreik424
@alexreik424 8 лет назад
+Timrath Total horse-crap. Go back to the conservatoire which, rightly kicked you out for an over-active yet far-from-the-mark imagination. The greats were no kleptomaniacs, you have a mean-spirited streak about you, Handel only elaborated on ideas he felt were not properly elaborated upon. According to wannabe musicologists such as you, there is nothing new under the sun.....quite a lot from your pen shall be, shortly, (and rightfully) mostly forgotten. Show less
@edwardhoward5525
@edwardhoward5525 8 лет назад
+Alex Reik I think your tone is entirely inappropriate for this forum. 18th century composers constantly lifted each others' themes and recycled their own- The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba theme by Handel is from a concerto for three violins by Telemann and the opening of Zadok the Priest is from Telemann's (glorious) concerto for viola d'amore, oboe d'amore and flute - that's a lot of amore. William Boyce said of Handel's borrowings "He takes pebbles and turns them into diamonds." We can afford to take a similarly relaxed attitude. if you want a really exciting story about music try Have you tried the new Sherlock Holmes story about the discovery of Vivaldi's manuscripts - The Red Priest's Treasure Trove by Orlando Pearson on Kindle Direct Publishing. A real eye opener and there's a great theory about Bach's Brandenburg concerti in the story as well www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Priests-Treasure-Trove-Redacted-ebook/dp/B015AHJPUS/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1442259752&sr=1-1

@TBH. One explanation I have heard for all the repeats (which are standard to symphonic form, not unique to this piece) is that, in an age that did not have recorded music, the composer was able to install the tunes in the memory of the audience.
@andrews582
@andrews582 9 лет назад
That is a very perceptive observation. Modern recordings have given modern audiences to hear repeat performances on a scale never imagined in the years before the end of WWII. Perhaps in our age we have become a bit lazy and spoiled. I am grateful for this indulgence, a blessing for people like me who are devoid of any talent and cannot deliver a decent performance on any instrument whatever.
