Star Saber is the leader of the Autobots from the Japanese series Transformers Victory! Which is also the continuation of The Transformers Generation 1
wow, its a really accurate representation of the anime design, its hard for me to remember but i think he was the supreme commander after optimus was killed in the desert by megatron, also i have a vague memory of optimus remains been turn in to Victory Leo (an out of control savage autobot). this brings back a lot of memories, thanks.
That wasn’t Optimus Prime. Ginrai is a guy who looks a lot like Optimus Prime, and it’s kind of a long story. Anyway, he just became supreme commander, and then later Ginrai got badly damaged by Deathsaurus. He got turned into Victory Leo, who can upgrade Star Saber.
You know you're a very good reviewer when you manage to keep some one who also has no attachment to Star Saber for more than 40 minutes, well done sir! And I also wonder what's going on with his life to have Star Saber so pissed! Poor guy haha.
Dashierez no, the brain master is Star Saber. In the Japanese cartoon, there were no target masters and the head masters and brain masters were just another form for the larger robot. I didn't realize that annoying kid was his adopted son, but I haven't gotten to those episodes yet. I thought he was Ginrai's son from the way he was so upset about him becoming Victory Leo. I have to hurry up and finish watching these shows. I'm still in Head Masters. Subtitles are killing me...
Actually, the Brainmaster is named Yukio. the full transformation goes Yukio- Saber- Star Saber. Similar to how Ginrai went Ginrai- Super Ginrai - God Ginrai. I don't remember if Yukio was addressed by name in the cartoon to be honest, but yeah, every time he combines the name changes, eventually ending up as Victory Saber when he combines with Victory Leo.
Am i the only one who lost it when he said "release the crotch"? God dammit Emgo, why are you so funny, i end up in laughing fits nearly every time i watch your vids. Don't ever change your style man, its awesome.
TheTechPoTaToCHIP true... it has mk 1 gundams sheild mold type just need to tak that aurmour off and then stick a head from mk1 onto wingsaber and then you can have a gundam.though that ultra magnus also kinda looks like a gundam on the chest's bottom part anyways
I actually just saw the G1 version of this toy reviewed and I must say this figure is very well done. I honestly hadn't heard of this character until yesterday but after watching some of the anime he's from, I must say he's probably one of the most badass G1 Autobots out there. Really worth looking into.
Dragonborne Prime-MC and more!!! Yeah, he's the Autobot Leader in his series. I just got the entire Japanese series and some is very confusing (subtitles don't help). @ Emgo; great review! I would suggest keeping him in case they decide to make Victory Leo. I saw the ports on Star Saber's feet for a possible combine mode. He merges with Victory Leo to form Victory Saber. Ok, that was long winded; sorry. Again, great review.
Wanna know more about Star Saber? Go read the More Than Meets The Eye comic storyarc "Remain In Light". His character is insanely different from his Victory origins, but it's still friggin' awesome! Great review, as always
emgo316 the part that holds the gun and can flip up has a hidden compartment underneath to hold the sword I don't own the toy just saw it in another review vid for the toy xD
I hated the way Star Saber was portrayed by IDW, his character was taken so out of context that IDW might as well just made up a whole new character. I mean IDW makes Star Saber a bad guy and Cyclonus a good guy, there is no point in using existing characters if their character traits are going to be so drastically altered, and there is no way Cyclonus would be able to defeat the real Star Saber, not the fake IDW Star Saber. Now I thonk for the most part IDW does excellent work but they really screwed up their portrayal of the really awesome Autobot Star Saber, and the really awesome Decepticon Cyclonus.
8:18 onwards. LOL!! Em', this is why I like you XD. You have such a good sense of humor. While these toys nowadays are so much cool and fun and I would get some of them (i can't afford them all nor have the room right now :sad pacman face:), I wouldn't fuss over the tiniest of things. When I young the transformers then didn't have as much articulation as they do now so I think it's quite amazing to see them remade into such wonderful toys today. Color me humble, that being said :).
Jesus, that GAP! Nah, kidding. I know with Transformers, things like gaps and kibble exist to facilitate the transformations, so it never bothered me. Even as a five year old back in the 1980s with my old Gen1 Sixshot.
By far the best light, centered and in-focused review for Star Saber online so far. Just three of the many reasons I'm one of the 100,800+ subscribers. Keep up the awesome reviews!
38:47 Optimus and Star Saber... Can't ask for better Autobot leaders... Yes, Star Saber was the supreme leader of the Autobots in Transformers Victory, one of the Japanese G1 spinoffs...
I just got Star Saber and was rewatching this video. Because of this comment I watched Baltmatrix's video and he doesn't mention the storage of the hilts as far as I saw. If you watch closely you can see the red V shaped hilt stored, but I had to pause and re watch the segment while messing with the V Star to figure out how to get the hilt in the so called storage location and the other blue partial hilt can be wedged in. I can't find any hatch or hinge. So yes, it is possible, but it doesn't seem to be on purpose.
The large sword with the short handle is for the combined mode to hold it in one hand. In vehiclemode the basestar has a place to store the smaller hilt below the blue centerpiece near the back under the panel that flips up in combined mode
I suppose you should keep him to the point, when Takara release Victory Leo to combine with him. You'll probably review him, so if you don't sell him now you'll avoid trouble searching him again just to combine with Victory Leo.
The colors on this blow me away. Idk how, but he looks like a cartoon! They're so vivid. I haven't watched a single frame of Japanese transformers and I like this figure.
10:02 lol.. almost ten years later and I just figured out it stores under the back lip of the blue piece of the V Star where the thrusters are at least in vehicle mode. I only know that because I just watched Peaughs review too from 9 years ago and he pointed it out back then so 😂😂 I’m late to the party
Great review Emgo, Star Saber was an amazing character in the Victory anime series now I'm glad we have a masterpiece version of him in toy form, can't wait to get mine.
Decided to come back and watch this after watching the Haslab Victory Saber review. I can't believe how long ago this was and it reminds me I've been watching your reviews for over a decade
Well Emgo, the deciding factor could be you watching some episodes from star saber... might give you a good idea on how much you like the figure more or less... There is a reason why he got voted on...
Namekjohn We've talked about that on Radio Free Cybertron, but to be honest I'd prefer new molds cause it wouldn't really be a decent looking LK with the existing molds.
We just need a Masterpiece Victory Leo in order to make Victory Saber, a Masterpiece Dai Atlas, Sonic Bomber and Road Fire to make Big Powered and a Masterpiece Ginrai and Godbomber to make God Ginrai and we’ll have the Autobot leaders from the Japanese G1 continuity.
Its scary how close to the G1 toy this is, its like they took the exact mold and went lets make some slight changes lol watching this made me wish I still had my starsaber/victory, the pair were my favorite transformers growing up. ty emgo for the warm fuzzys.
You often compare your transformers figures by size etc. I propose that you make a small video about comparison and posable abilities of all small "brainmasters" and their "human friends" from your collection.
FYI, they had to way underscale Star Saber for this release. If he was in scale with the MPs, well, his Brainmaster is actually supposed to stand toe to toe with the majority of the Masterpiece line. HIS BRAINMASTER.
Plz I love how star saber looks and all he can do dispite his short comings even though I have no idea on his background. Btw love ur bids emgo keep up the good work, and it always puts a smile on my face
Thanks Emgo, I'd managed to miss the sword storage and also had my legs mistransformed, thanks for the review, set me straight there! Please keep Starsaber, I can just see the funnies coming in with SS and Prime competing for leadership, Prime dissing Starsaber to Saber, not realizing it's the same bot. Oh the potential for your skits! Not that I'm trying to tell you what to do, of course! I follow your channel because you do things your way! Vive les Geeks!
Oh yes, and in Vehicle mode you can store the small sword hilt under the blue panel at the back of the V-star (near the thrusters) still searching in robot mode... Well, I did find one place, plugs in on the angled screw hole between his legs but best not to go there, especially not if you have the blade attached!!!
Not sure if that's gonna happen, his character was (so far) only included in the Victory chronology, which in no way coincided with the G1 chronology. Also, since this was mostly broadcasted in Japan, the series (and Star Saber) had little to no recognition in America, which was basically a hotspot for Transformers fans.
Just putting together what the others said before, Star Saber is from Transformers: Victory, Japanese local if I’m not mistaken. The strage looking sword parts are from his smaller jet form (in the show). Ergo the weird proportion: smaller sword for Saber, bigger sword for Star Saber (the combined form). The “brainmaster” is Saber himself in human size (pretender mode?). And he has an adopted son if I’m not mistaken.
Beutiful show accurate star saber..you should try see the star saber show emgo..tons of cool autobot and deception..his nemesis deathsaurus..decepticon combiner leokaizer..dynoking..cameo of headmaster Optimus prime.
In the original Star Saber toy the sword hilt piece was part of the Saber jet mode nosecone supposedly. But in this MP version the Saber jet nosecone becomes the hilt for the larger sword for Star Saber (the combined robot mode)... Anyways this looks like a really nice figure, not overly complicated transformation for a Masterpiece toy...
Oh man, if this just had his giant laser cannon that would be freaking awesome. Also, inside of the show he eventually links up with his ally Victory Leo to become Victory Saber, which is basically exactly the same with Leo being reduced to extra boots and a jetpack with lasers on top. Still awesome.
Great review Emgo! I have no attachment to the figure either. So it was refreshing to know I'm not the only one who bought this an had no idea who he was lol. I didn't even know about the other TF's series that he was in! Yes I did grow up in the 80's , but TF's died by the time 1988 rolled around. Anyhow , I really like him an feel I may keep mine. Hopefully you'll come around an wind up keeping yours too. Take care bud !
Aw, man, he doesn't have knee articula--oh, wow! That's some nice engineering. Before you twisted the thighs to reveal the knee joints I was kinda bummed since I'm deciding if I should get him or not. This is a great toy and near perfect representation of the character.
You're the first person I have noticed out of the three or so reviews I have seen of this figure to point out that you can detach the crane arm from the helmet and fold it away, which gives his head more movement
He is in the transformers energon series which is the 2nd part of the unicron series armada, energon and cybertron. All three kinda grow on you especially when you watch then like that.
That was the Unicron trilogy's version, named Wingdagger originally, but after he "died" and came back he was much larger and changed his name to Wing-Saber. He looked a lot like classic Star Saber here, but was an entirely different character in terms of role and personality. Looked nothing like Star Saber in Cybertron
+Guns'n Games 1226 if star saber were in G1 in takara series after hasbro ended theirs I have those four series headmasters, super God master force, victory and zone now that I'm looking at box yes that's my bad it's been awhile since I've watched them on computer but star saber and wing saber do have some differences and some uncanny resemblance. Thanks for pointing out.
Brian McDonald I agree with your original post to the point that Wing Saber was SUPPOSED to be the new version of Star Saber. I'm sure they only renamed him because "Star Saber" was one of those 3 special minicon weapons in Armada, along with a gun and shield. Even in TF Prime and the TF Devastation game, the Star Saber is a sword, like wtf happened to the character?
I recently watched the entire Victory Series w Star Saber..I have no regrets getting this toy..Its an awesome series even though its subtitled...-80's kid
10:20 The smaller hilt stores on the underside of the buttflap/backplate when it's extended in jet mode. Unfortunately, it means that it's left dangling in robot mode >.> Although that's probably been pointed out long before now XD
I would say most people don't have much of a connection to this character. I have thought about saving the money to get him simply because the original is on my holy grail list because he is so cool. This is a much cheaper way to get the figure and he is improved some.
Had a Star Saber once when I was a kid... They did retain some transformation style as that toy... I also saw the Victory series when it came out in my country... Good show... for me
17:15 It's easier to plug the brain onto the peg with the brain's arms and legs pointing out, then push them arms and legs down, than try to put the brain into the body with the brain in the standing position.
Coming back to this after getting my Haslab Victory Saber, isn't it so weird it's been 7 years and yet we still don't have a Masterpiece Victory Leo to go along with this one? Just another victim of MP's fading relevancy as Generations and Haslab continue on, apparently?
I started checking other reviews to find out where to store the smaller sword, around 8:30 into his review Peaugh pulled it out from underneath the back of the middle of the V-Star. The part that double hinges up to form his back.
While not shown in the video, Star Saber in Super Robot form is as big as Combiners, in fact this figure scales perfectly with the ones from the Combiner Wars line.
