Well, I like the TakaraTomy one better. The main thing I had a complaint about was how The Unofficial ones heads work. On the cartoon when Inferno turns his head, the whole box turns. When it comes to Masterpiece figures I like cartoon accuracy because that seems like the whole purpose. The toys never looked like the cartoon.
TMan978 nah not for the price point. I think value for money MMC (die-cast & detail). The accessories for the MP are quite nice. Its great to have options, but I tend to like a balance of Toy and toon.
Don't get me wrong, the official Inferno is pretty fucking nice. But to say it puts 3rd party in their place isn't right. MMC has a very nice one that fits well with MP collections. It's like MP-10, the Datsuns, Soundwave, the seekers, Wheeljack and some of the other earlier figures that had additional detailing that was outstanding. It then veered off to more strictly toon with Hot Rod, Shockwave and beyond. You can say that the older versions are not looking like they came straight out of the toon, as well. It's not a fact, but I'm sure a shit ton of people would argue that case with many fans on TFW2005.com stating that a v3 Optimus Prime needs to happen since he needs to be more toonish. Hell, I'm picking up Grapple even though I have the Maketoys version.
Great review, dude! Man, Im so looking forward to get my own! Hellfire and Backdraft doesn't look too bad, but I still prefere my MP's to be Takara. I love how they managed to engineer that ladder to be hidden i side of the torso, instead of hanging down the back. My view on stickers is that I hate them! Awesome to see that Takara decided to make seperate parts with the insignias tempographed on, but why not do the same with the FD logos? Anyways! Nice amount of accessories included here, and I can't wait to get mine in hand!
thanks for early look it's a great comprehensive video. I Love my MMC but will be getting this one as well just hesitant because I really haven't been impressed with any of their newer releases again great review.
I actually decided to swoop up Backdraft a couple days ago because he was on sale for just $69.99 at one point... Honestly, I didn't realize the Takara version would be releasing as soon as it did, but ultimately my decision would've been the same. The sad part here is I am really impressed with the engineering of the Takara mold, but the overall lack of detail, chrome, paint, and die cast is too much to overlook. If this was the exact figure but with the detailing and die cast found in Backdraft it would be the perfect version of Inferno, it would also warrant the $139.99 price point. Unfortunately, like MP Iron Hide this figure is far too plain for my taste and my collection.
Shodaximus glad I not the only one. The takara one jus look like a unpainted prototype to me. I know they was goin with the toon look but The G1 toys had more details then this one
A great review, cheers! Only gripes with the figure would be, the slightly boring legs, the fact that the ladder doesn't look to extend too much or rotate, and I wish it was a smidge bigger in alt mode. But he is the one I'm getting, and he will do just fine.
Watching this review in HD, I can actually make out quite a bit of details, there's just no paint to bring it out. Which, as I said in my review of MP Prime, fits the cartoon aesthetic to a T.
Think this is the best looking MP to date. Takara seems to be leaning toward a more animation inspired direction as of late. Thats cool, but makes me want to see the earlier designs go in that direction as well.
He'll only destroy it if it deserves destroying. I'm hoping he doesn't though, because I would like to add this to my collection. The Chosen Prime does a great job reviewing as well and from what I've seen here, all should be good.
I don't think Bobby will destroy it. He'll probably ding it for lack of details like Ironhide/Ratchet and a non-rotating ladder and like the rest of it.
If you have a problem with parts not being securely fastened and constantly adjusting them to fit together just right, I'd recommend not getting the MMC Inferno. My Maketoys Grapple is very sturdy and secure. And if Takara's Inferno is anything like their Ironhide and Optimus Primal, everything should peg into place nicely.
I love that official transformation with the hiding ladder. That kind of transformation magic is like catnip to me. But man, the lack of detail. That altmode looks so cheap. I kind of regret not snagging Hellfire when he was super cheap. I think the offical MPs are starting to get a bit TOO cartoony for me.
BadLamprey your forgetting something remember the original toy and cartoon he didn't really have an exact firetruck alt mode its mainly been based on the asthetics of an firetruck not an specific one
My opinion on MP-33: some fantastic engineering but Takara really dropped the ball on the aesthetics making it way too plain and slavish to the animation model which is NOT the best thing to be slavish too. Needs more details im robot and truck mode. I just ordered Ocular Max Backdraft because it's the best looking of the 3 IMHO
I think I agree. Cartoons don't look realistic, they look plain. If you make toys look like a cartoon, they will be plain and bland. I pre-ordered this a long time ago but now I'm leaning towards wanting the Ocular Max. I'm not sure what to do yet. Decisions, decisions...
No way, the cartoon look is how I remember them so I'm glad they're going this route. Some figures will have more details than others due to their car design but you can only do so much to please everybody.
+Jetfire48 You right the prices rise indecently! KO VERSION'S and THIRD PARTY FIGURES are a good option cheaper and very good qualities when i see the futurs projects of FANS TOYS, i tell myself no more MP purchase, and wait for KO'S version !! I bought REXIMUS PRIME recently and this guy is huge and PERFECT made of good quality. despite this facts, i have already ordered MP INFERNO, and i'm looking now for MMC "GRAPPLE" cheaper
if all the mp's would scale with spike there wouldn't be this problem,.... of size or scale. the tf universe needs a constant....or things will never be right in the mp scaling.
so......is this a mp inferno or updated g1 inferno?....... the only thing mp about him is his price,.... remember people...... we live in a post devistator world.... size matters.
I have the 2 and there is no doubt that mmc better in price and quality, another disappointment of takara, the vehicle mode gives it looks like a truck for a child of 5 years.
have you seen the size of a ladder fire truck,....... are you crazy there's no way in hell..... regular cab over 18 wheeler is bigger than a firetruck really,.... and yes I have driven both,.... in real life.
pass,...... too plain,...... not scaled right,..... he should be the same size as ultra magnus,... what a letdown. but the way the ladder folds and stows is very mp style.
if this wasn't a mp figure I wouldn't care,..... but it's not mp's are more,... more detailed,..... more realistic,.....more complex,..... more expensive lol....😠
