I love the MP40 She just Sooooo Cool German Small Arms of WW2 are the BEST, they were so ahead of their time in looks , and innovation, and 70 Years later they are still the coolest Guns, the German Gun Manufactures in that era such as Rheinmetall, Mauser, Erma, Krieghoff , Haenel and Walther etc designed some of the best and most influential small arms ever such as the MP40, MG34, MG42, FG42 & Stg44, Man those Guys knew what they were doing and bare in mind this was in Wartime under immense pressure from both their Government to meet production demands and Allied bombing and yet they still managed to produce these Icons. LEGENDS

That little piece of metal/Bakelite on the bottom of the barrel is called the barrel protector or the barrel rest. It folds up under the barrel to be deployed to allow the shooter to put it through a vehicle slot or ledge but then the barrel "hooks" with the muzzle tip outside the vehicle. This made it less likely that the recoil of the MP40 might otherwise push the shooter back. Which in turn might cause the shooter to pull the muzzle back into the vehicle as he's firing, something the shooter might live to regret.

The MP40 is my favorite SUB GUN of all time . As a kid in the 60s watching Combat and the Gallent Men I would see these weapons and dream of owning one . This is a great video! Thanks a lot .

Very cool video! MP 40 is one of my all time favorites. Excellent SMG with a perfect rate of fire. There is also a MP40/II that was made in very limited quantity. Has a sliding magazine housing to accommodate two magazines. Strange that the Germans introduced the MP41 towards the end of the war. Really nothing had to be done to improve upon the MP 40.

Those are sweet, I worked with a guy who was an arms dealer in the 70s, he owned at one time over 50 of these, he got them as part of a deal. I am 57 and he’s got to be in his 80s now.

Holy Crom this was a fun vid. I thought the "well fed American" was great, but the battle at the end of the Best Mp-40 Video Ever Made had me literally grinning like loon! Only extra bit I can think of that you might have added at the very beginning (when you mention the Mp-38) is the Mp-36 prototype which is the grandaddy of the Mp40. But it's rare a hen's tooth and they only made like 6 as I recall. The story of the American who brought one home is a well spun tale, tho. Great vid!! Loved it. The Machinenpistole 38/40 is my fav. gun of all time.

Seen so many variations, brown Bakelite sides, double mag housings but never really seen so many in action in one hit with all the others letting rip!
