@@johnclements6614 Sorry, I probably phrased that badly. Yes, I agree. It used to be that we could assume that most of the time politicians were telling the truth (if not the whole truth) and that if what they said wasn't true then they would have to correct the facts later. Now that's not the case and unfortunately it leads to skepticism whenever a politician says something.

It's better to grow up in a relatively stable and caring environment. It's not about having a mum and dad, it's about creating truly better social environments for everyone. Unfortunately, not really a tory thing.

@@danw5760 It's stating the obvious in a way that manages to demoralise those who aren't in that position. She should think about Johnson for a start. If the Tories had done ANYTHING to improve ordinary people's lives and create stability for the family, she might have a point. As it is, increased costs on food, energy, rents and mortgages, taxes, transport, healthcare, dentistry, child and social care have all made family stability almost impossible for millions. It's rank hypocrisy if nothing else.

It is absolutely not the job of politicians to generalise, it is their job to consider every person and situation if a policy is to be inclusive and successful. It's even worse to make sweeping statements about the family and it's agency in child development. A family whose parents are suffering stress from food and shelter insecurity may not be able to provide the same level of emotional support as a more affluent single parent. I don't understand how people that are so dim rise to such positions of power and influence?

@@DannyG53Well no, not quite. We are not all in agreement that "in general immigration is too high", for example. That's her interpretation of the data on immigration. It's an opinion, not a fact. Her generalisations come from her opinion, not from data. 1:36 There were London papers printed in the 1800's predicting the collapse of civilisation if the global population rose over 1 million. We now have 9 million people living in London alone. It's one thing to collect data. It's another to interpret it.

Immigration is (possibly) too high, but why pin that information onto the general public to paint a picture of immigrants being the problem, yet it's their responsibility as a government to run a tight enough ship to control such things. It's easy to pass the responsibility, but using rhetoric like swarms or infestations is horrendous and the Conservatives are very aware of what they're saying - and not saying

The problem with the Tories is that many of their "general policies" completely ignore all "individuals" in their totality. So you end up with policy based on ideology, irrespective of the damage that it does to, you know, actual people. Because no actual people, were considered when making the policy.

Yes people do want truthful politicians so why is she defending out and out lies from her fellow MP's. Incidentally I note she doesn't deferenciate between families where only partner works as opposed to ones where both work because if she had her contention breaks down as whilst the children maybe financial better off they lose out on emotional support due the absence of the parents and their both being tired when they are in the home.

It is not ok for politicians to say what they believe, if what they believe is demonstrably untrue. Neither is lying simply because they believe that it is what people want to hear. What about responsibility and accountability? What about honesty for that matter? None of this seems to cross their minds. I'm glad that responsible journalists have started calling this nonsense out.
