I used a Super Antenna for a long time and had pretty good success with it. I just used the aluminum tripod that Super Antenna sold as an accessory. Nice thing was I was able to fit everything into a plastic 15" welding rod container. Have you ever tried magnetic loop antennas ? I have had very good luck with those also.
Nice One ! I have the same Antenna but never able to tune it down to below SWR 2:1...but I have never tried as well spreading the radials in the star pattern, its night here, will do the first thing in the morning by trying this configuration to see how swr will behave...TNX
Hey I love to hear that I could help. I dusted it off the other night and was super frustrated. Then someone suggested I raise the counterpoises. So I did that, I actually laid them across our 2 cars and it really helped. Then I tried different patterns with the radials as you see and I also made my own long radial. Just mess around with it until you figure it out. I had problems also.
Another feature of that setup is you can bring along a small bag, fill it with sand or rocks and hang it on the tripod's center column hook for increased stability.
1. Like the new theme song, but it might be better just in the opening. Who did that for you? 2. I hope that is your daughter's sippy cup and not yours! 😁 3. I have heard mixed reviews about the Super Antenna. How has it worked for you?
Hey David. Really nice ham online made it for me. Jason KJ4ZU. As for the ending part, I figure people can stop watching if they don't wanna see it. I totally didn't see that sippy cup until later LOL. Mixed reviews is right. I find it finicky to tune. I would say it's both good and bad. I'll say it again though, nothing beats a wire in a tree, unfortunately that is a pain to do. This is easier. So compromise.
@@hamradiocq I have a Wolf River Coils TIA 1000. I have good luck with it. I went with a vertical because some places do not allow wires in trees. Hope you have good luck with yours.
@@Tommyr I don't think you will regret it. There is a learning curve in tuning it, but there are videos on that. Do yourself a favor and order three wire winders for the counterpoise wires. It will make setup and teardown easier.
The SuperAntenna Tripod has a larger screw, a camera won't go on it. Also you dont need the smaller mounting bracket, the one you used with your C clamp will go on the tripod or the ground spike. It sort of replaces the smaller one as a will do anything mounting plate.
Have any idea if it will work with a Wolf River Coil? I had no idea that increasing the number of radials had such an impact on SWR, especially that much of an impact. Once again you taught me something. What was the thing that you held in your hand that appears to connect the antenna to the tripod? Does it come with the antenna or the tripod? Thanks for your time.
The back of my antenna tuner has a port for "display interface". I'm trying to plug this in to my yaesu 891. Unfortunately I bent one of the pins in this attachment cable. Can you tell me what connection this cable has? Thanks
I think you do not need to buy that plate .. Think that the Tripode Central Bar can be removed. You just have to put a normal plate on top and hold it to another a little smaller underneath, with a screw about 10 cm .. I have several big tripodes and I have done it like that .. Greetings from Andorra.
