Clipping is about the amplitude of the waveform, not about some portion of the song getting cut off. Most likely it's warning that if it adjusts the volume of those tracks, that one track's waveform will go beyond 100% modulation, which will then get "clipped" as if scissors cut off the part that went above 100%. This can introduce noticeable distortion since the clipping process leaves a sharp edge at both sides. To avoid this, it might not raise the volume as much for the track or album.
Best tutorial on MP3Gain. Some others have the knowledge but lack the ability to transfer, coherently or in understandable that knowledge to others. Well Done!

Correct. The changes are being committed as the file is processed. Once the progress bar is done, the MP3s have been adjusted and saved. there is nothing else you need to do.
@JDMark25 MP3Gain adjusts the decibel volume of the MP3. It doesn't matter if the mp3 is on a hard drive or thumb drive. This program rocks and will work great for you.
Think of it this way. Let's say you have 2 albums. Album one is recorded at 92db and album two is recorded at 82db. If you shuffled these songs you would get loud then quiet, etc. All mp3gain does is level the playing field. There isn't a standard used by recording companies, that is why this application rocks.

Found the program first had to find your video to figure out how to use it. Thanks. Now to take the few non-mp3s and convert them so I can use it on them too.
Make sure that the files located here My Music < iTunes < iTunes Media < Music are all mp3s. If they are, you are correct, just point mp3gain to the music folder.
Mp3gain is great but Aaron doesn't have a clue how the program works. e.g. Clipping is distortion caused by too high volume setting, not cutting off a piece at the end of the song!!
Easiest way is to remove the directory and re-add it back in. This will force the iPod to resync. The other option is to change the modified date on the MP3 files. This will cause the library to be updated.
@lnz1203 I don't have an ipod, but others told me that you use MP3Gain on the songs, remove the songs from your ipod, then transfer them back to the ipod. The initial processing will take a little bit, but it is well worth it in the end.

You really don't want to separately adjust the volumes of tracks of an album, because the producer of the album *wanted* the tracks to have different volumes. If you listen to the album after individual adjustment, it won't sound as intended. For example, it might have a quiet track then a loud track, because the contrast is important for mood. I can imagine you'd want to adjust individual tracks when shuffling it with other tracks, rather than listening to the album straight through.
After analising a folder of mp3 audio files, A plaque pops up that says, 'Can't open or modify Change Log File E:\Program Files\mp3Gain\mp3GainGuiChanges.Log'. Please advise how to remedy this problem. Cedric
I am guessing that when most run this application they are doing it on their entire mp3 library. That really is the reason that I would do a general consistent db level instead of adjust each album one by one. Good information thought.
I theory, you are correct. Doing this adjustment by ear would make the most sense. How about for people that have 10,000+ mp3 files they would like to adjust? This option is way more viable.
Instead of a music player, my music (all MP3 format) is on a USB flash drive played through a small stereo. Like to know whether MP3 Gain could also work on this type setup, if anyone knows.
how do i then transfer that music onto my already existing itunes library. i took the songs from that list and fixed it on mp3gain. so how so i now adjust it so my library is adjusted or is it automatic>
i tried to do this to a bunch of songs i thought were way to quiet. but when i put them on my ipod it didnt seem to make any difference. i even tried cranking the gain/volume they are still quiet is ever. what could i be doing wrong?
Aren't individual albums deliberately recorded in such a way that you don't have to keep adjusting the volume when you listen to them? This seems to mess with the artist's original intentions. I would like to use mp3Gain for my playlist, because all the songs come from different albums, but I'm skeptical for the reason I just mentioned.
I’m doing this on mac. There is no save feature or anything that would indicate I have to finalise the analysis. Does that mean that if I go into itunes the album I have selected will now be normalised?

When the files are done gaining do you just exit out of the program? There's nothing extra you have to click to verify that the changes have been made?
I already transferred music to my MP3 Player, so if I download MPGain do I load MY MUSIC on it from my MP3 Player or do I have to go to WMP and send to MP3Gain? and once again reload back to my MP3 player from WMP?
You really have to options. 1) You need to run all the mp3s through MP3Gain, then transfer them back to the device. 2) If you are able to access the mp3s directly on the device, via my computer, windows expolorer, etc.....I don't see any reason you couldn't just point mp3gain to that location and update directly on the device as well.
Hi Aaron, great demo thanks but I have 1 question....When I use track gain and the bar at the bottom does its thing, is that it? or do I need to export or save? Do I just click exit and that's it the entire album is normalised? Thanks :-)
I used media monkey db corrector or whatever its called on my music library and it jacked my library up, everything's way to low, I don't exactly remember what it set the db to but will this correct that?
+This0is0pointless It should. Here is what I would do to be sure. Grab an album and make a copy. Then run the copy though MP3Gain. If this works, great! Use MP3Gain on the rest. If not, we need to rethink what needs to be done.
+Aaron Champagne hey thanks for replying, I did that but made a copy of my entire library lol, pretty sure ive figured it out, I listen to a wide variety of genres and the program i ran them through set them all to 89db which doesn't work for every song,album,genre, etc. i used mp3gain to raise the db on majority of them to just before clipping around 93gb for most then lower the db on whichever songs had clipping until it was gone. Works great thanks for the video
really it is personal preference. I like 92 but choose what you like. do this, take a mp3 and duplicate it. set one 89 and one 94. see what you like :)
Clipping has nothing to do with trimming the length of the track. Clipping occurs when an audio signal is amplified past the maximum clean (undistorted) limit, whether in a digital or analog system. It should be avoided if you want your audio to sound the way it was recorded. Clipping makes the audio sound harsh at best and unlistenable at worst. AVOID if possible.
+thespedwards How would it effect anything you downloaded after the program is no longer on the computer? It can't effect new things if it doesn't exist on the system any more.
no need to save. once it is done, it overwrites the original file. It is still just an mp3 format. it will still need converting before it can be burnt as a music CD.
