My first drum machine was a Casio Rz1 and I bought that in 86 so learning how to navigate these analog machines is pretty standard. Most of the time you use the same functions so it becomes quicker but it's all about the sound and sound development. To this day I have yet to see some of the things that the Mv8800 has done be duplicated in Daw's or stand alones. It was just different to navigate just like this machine and a lot of people didn't have the patience to learn.

I sold my Verselab and bought a MPC live. I regretted that decision within a few months. I was more prolific with being creative on the Verselab than the MPC. @@DyReckProductions Also the autotune and harmony features on MPC One are more limited compared to MV-1. That was the selling point for me. Autotune is best when it is barely doing anything at all, but doing it. Multiple parameters are necessary for that to be possible. MV-1 has them, MPC doesn't. The MPC sounds muffled in comparison to the verselab, which may be more technically correct (the verselab might be aliasing) but as you say it loses character. I've seen teardowns of modern MPCs and it's the same parts used in cellphones and tablets running Linux. @@visisydandthevoid No. The iPad app is more about increased immediacy of filter and effect changes and the levels, basic stuff. Working with samples is a huge pain on the MV-1 but the MV-1 can DO a lot with them. It's just painstaking to do whatever it is you're doing. The MV-1 is basically an awesome vocal tool (better than other Grooveboxes anyway) with a great sound engine (ROMpler) and an intuitive step sequencer. Everything that's on it is there, but super cumbersome. But ALL machines can eventually be learned, then it wouldn't be cumbersome at all. Imagine having to type the first time on a keyboard, but then see someone type 80 words per minute.
