I've had the same problem with my MPC500 ever since I took it up to use properly after having it in storage for over 10 years. It's not really caused me a problem as the volume is okay but I think it's great that you've done a video showing how to fix it. I may well give it a go myself so thank you Harry. Subbed
hey harry, i just picked up one of these basically for no money and it seems to be working fine except for the cursor buttons… where did u get the spare parts from?
Thank you for sharing your work. I got a 500 about a month ago and it works just fine. Some of the buttons are maybe a bit numb but nothing unsettling. What is a bit off is the recording input that is super noisy, and on the headphones jack there is also some noise. So probably should try out some recaping at some point, as many say, that the capacitors on the 500 can be of the lower quality and putting new better ones in place should take care of the noise. Have you figured out the volume pot yet? Best regards.

I have to replace some tact switches on my mpc1000. I liked the method of cutting the legs as much as you can with that tool then desolder. I've seen others use a desoldering wick or desolder pump, do you think that would be better? I don't have any experience soldering which is why I ask. you seem to use your solder tool directly on the board to clean out the solder/left over leg from the faulty tact switch. then you put new solder to the new switch for like 3 seconds? just asking for detailed tips onto replacing it. peace
Have never used desoldering wick to be honest but I did use a pump to help remove some of the solder after I’d cut the component off. Then it’s just a case of soldering on the new one as you would any component :) hope that helps
Hey man nice video. I recently picked up a used MPC 500 as well and encountered some problems as well. The down cursor arrow takes a few hard presses for it to register and my CF card slot seems to not be working (maybe due to some debris and corrosion around the bottom of the pins). Otherwise the unit seems to be working in fairly good condition. My question is, do you think putting some contact spray for the cursor button would help my issue instead of desoldering it and replacing the button? Also for cleaning any debris/corrosion, would you recommend I use isopropyl alcohol or something else? Thanks 👍
Thanks mate, for buttons, as long as you can remove the cap to access the button component contact spray should work although if you know how to solder it’s really not a tough fix at all and it saves you possibly having to do it again. Not sure how to go about fixing the card slot, there’s some really good mpc forums so maybe try there? :)
HELP! Hey man i have a little issue with my mpc 500. I just got it not long ago and The phones jack is not working properly so i decided to change but... it seems i cant fully dismantle the unit. How do i take of the pcb board?
