As great a player as he was he's even better in person. I've run into him here in Miami a few times and we've always had great conversations. A truly genuine person. Did I mention he was a great player? Yep! My favorite Heat player of all time...
@fooloof Oh whatever. He's changed now. I'm not defending what I did but he's done so much for homosexual people since he realized how hurtful those things he said we're.
Other people had prettier crossovers. Nobody ever, in the history of the league had a dribble weapon more effective that the simple misdirection crossover. He perfected that shit. Hardaway's cross dribble was basically Kareem's sky hook. Completely unstoppable.
+Uncle Drew when he came to the league he got called a lot for carrying he would excite the crowd with it so the nba said fuck it let him do his thing problem is once you let 1 get away with it they all start to follow hardaway stayed within the rules to me means he is the best ever .
Full Meta Jacket not hating, because I loved when Ray and Al came in. But Al carried the hell of the rock, but that heart in him helped the HOF status the most IMO.
You guys might want to check the video before making ignorant comments. Tim Hardaway doesn't carry, palm, travel or double-dribble. He's switching gears so quick at the perfect time to get defenders frozen, it's all legit. the modern crossover is his move, going left between the legs to make the defender commit and crossing over to the right, he made it so quick and so sharp, it was his own signature move, you can see him pull that in the video, whenever he wants, always gets him freedom
his crossovers are more smooth than iversons. AI looks like bout to loose the ball..or cross himself over..he works too hard at it. tim is just straight smoothness.
When I was little I always wondered how players get caught with the same move, I tried to emulate it but I was fat and slow 😂. I would get picked off every time.
if you compare his crossover to Iverson.. Iverson have more varieties and far more creative, but if you ask me Ill still pick Hardaway.. his crossover is just two dribble.. between the legs and a normal crossover.. the question is why is it so effective even though its so predictable? the answer is because his hand speed is fucking fast.. hardaway is fast yes but the moment he switch the ball from left to right its so fast it looks like the ball vanish ..there was the time that his crossover is so fast that it is in the Guinness book of records.
Yeah he always went to his right after the cross. It looked so simple and predictable, but his incredible speed made his crossover unstoppable. It's debatable whether A.I. or Hardaway had better crossover though.
Andy Im It is true it is very debatable.. there both fast but in two different ways.. Iverson rely on his speed and quickness of his steps..while Hardaway use more of blindly fast hand speed..I mean if I a defending a player who is fast atleast I know which direction he is going I mean I wont be able to catch up yes but Ill be able to predict that I will get my help and Ill be able to block his passing lane if he decided to pass.. but if Im defending a guy who's handspeed is so fast dribbling the ball that I dont even know which direction to go..the most scary thing about basketball is not knowing where is the ball..cuz your brain is trying to figure out how to act while your body is just stagnant.. and by then before you figure it out its already too late..thats just my own opinion that is why I pick hardaway.
@@bonbal9184 What this video doesn't show is that he LOVED to go left so you HAD to over play the fake to the left. Then he was so fast, once he got you leaning the slightest bit he's gone.
Iverson might've broken more ankles, but his crossover was essentially a carry every time. Hardaway had the purest crossover, and he knew exactly how to use it to get space and/or blow by guys. A joy to watch.
Yup, Tim Hardaway's crossover in college and in the pros before his injuries was better than Iverson's in my opinion. His was a quick power dribble crossover. Iverson had longer arms and cupped the ball out really wide but it didn't get called as carrying the ball because it was his/signature move and he was a superstar
A.J. Rose Hardaway and Isiah Thomas had the best crossovers in the history of the game in my opinion...They didn't need to do much of the exaggerated shoulder fake and the high-dribble crossovers (which exposes the ball more and is easier to mimic) that many players do these days. Hardaway and Isiah could effortlessly crossover in the open court without much of a pause. They were very fluid and masters of the low-dribble crossover. Chris Paul is one of the best these days as his wrist control is excellent and he maneuvers very well in tight traffic.
I think most people who actually watched him play would consider him a Warrior(Run TMC), not a Heat. I'm a Blazer fan, but really, who didn't enjoy watching, or try to copy his killer crossover?
Tim Hardaway is almost forgotten amongst new Heat fans. When I was a kid, he was my favorite player. He’d take over games late; hit big shots. Those windmill layups with the spin. Dude was really fun to watch.
Tim hardaway was one of the best point men in NBA history about 4 years in a row with the GS warriors he averaged over 22 pts and 10-11 ast a game only kevin johnson did that.
reallllyyyy? while you could be Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets or Indiana Pacers fan! you choose to be Miami Heat fan.... it surely has nothing to do with LeBron or bosh or D Wade..... yea very logical. ..... /s
***** Personally I think Chris Bosh should have stayed in Toronto. D Wade and LeBron that was a good idea. And you know they sell hormone supplements at London Drugs.
+Getloose360 LoL @ the luggage comment. I grew up know the Tim Hardaway type move as a crossover. Not the hessitation, swaying from side to side, luggage carrying movements of today..... Not haying on the modernized crossover, just I personally like Tim's more.
it's crazy how advanced the moves got in the nba now. Deron williams is like tim hardaway 2.0. The complexity of deron williams crossover is amazing. He can link up endless cross dribbles and then come back to a spin move. Props to Tim tho for being the OG
Sij Cecilio lol I'm not saying that I'm saying his crossover are better compared to u now probably because he's was in the NBA and has practiced it more unlike us.
My favorite player+number when i was a kid. and still now. Miami fans stay loyal. My dad used to take me to see them play at the old miami arena. Those were the days in elementary.
torriso i dont mean literly break his ankle, u know what i ment, yeah i know tim was rushing but look how penny brought it back to make him fall it was nasty. And hell yeah grant hill had a nasty cross too, Penny Hardaway And Grant hill were the face of the Nba when jordan retired in the mid-90's.
Hardaway and Rose are eerily similar... Born in Chicago, explosive PGs with killer crossovers, twist and finish in the lane the exact same way, tore their ACLs etc.
The real reason that the player went the opposite way he did when he crossed over is because he used a very hard to guard hesitation when he went between his legs which made it look like he was going that way
*sigh* He IS one of the best PGs of all time. Especially when you factor in that he played without his other knee half his career. 3rd in MVP voting while in Miami, while playing with a completely messed up knee. Consistent night after night, if he played today with no big guys in the paint and no handchecking, he would be illegal. Really strong for a little man as well.
My favorite was 1:39 on John Stockton, arguable one of the greatest point guard of all time,#2 on my list behind Magic, definitely greatest pure point guard. Stockton was known for his defense and steals on the perimeter and still got shook real bad trying to encroach on Hardaway's airspace. A big no no.
Back in the day, I was a huge fan of the '97 Heat. It's too bad just a few years later almost the entire team is gone. Tim way by far my favorite player.
This move is why Tim Hardaway, who was barely 5'11 (but listed as 6'0) was a 20 ppg, 10 ast. guy for most of the first 10 years of his NBA career. If he was playing now he would be embarrassing all the top PGs like Paul, Rondo, Irving, Curry, etc. The only current PG that comes close to his crossover is probably Irving. The only other player in NBA history that comes close is Allen Iverson who, at around the same height as Tim, led the league in scoring 4 times and using a combination of this move and his blazing speed scored at least 25 ppg 12 straight seasons.
We'll see how many ankle he breaks after he comes back from this injury. Derrick Rose is very quick and has mad skills, of course, but he is 6-3. He relies more on his pure speed to get past a defender than his dribbling skill. Same goes with Kyrie. He is also 6-3 and would still have lots of success even if he never used the crossover. But he uses it anyway and he uses it well. Both Timmy and AI are listed at 6-0 but are really more like 5-10, 5-11. And they really never were as quick as D-Rose was in 2010. The main reason they lasted in the NBA for so long and had so much success offensively is because of their near perfect crossover. Those two can probably lace em up and still make an NBA guard look like a fool right now and Hardaway is pushing 50.
Nah Irving may have the flashy handles, but Curry is more effective, hands down. Curry is like the modern day Tim Hardaway, seeing as they are both killer PGs and are/were on the Warriors.
JAY MAN...i respect tim and his accomplishment but CP would kill him..tim has one move,,through the legs and back to right..paul is too smart not to rmember that move..considering that he averages almost 3 stls per game..paul would run circles around tim on the offensive side too.
The killer crossover...he had one of the quickest crossovers ever before the knee injury and even then it was still damn good, but he was never the same player after the injury...
Actually both of them revolutionized it. Hardaway made it look effective, but AI made it cooler to do to get space for the shot, especially for small people going against big people.
I was a good defender and could anticipate a crossover from a lot great dribblers and steal the ball, but the way Tim crosses...there's no way I could get it
dwayne601 I thought you were referring to dwyane wade dumbass, think before you speak. And if your not talking about Dwade I don't know who you are referring to cause I know YOUR bum ass ain't clampin shit
MYJEEP GOSKEEERT not once did I ever bring up D Wade. I specifically said Tim. If your dumb ass wouldn't of flunked out school you could've easily read that
Now that's a crossover from the 80's and early 90's. Triying to dribble with least amount of carrying possible. That quickness and groove. Tim Hardaway IN THE HOF! NOW!
This is WHAT MY COACHES drilled me like a DRILL SARGEANT, and RAN a trillion WIND SPRINTS to break my bad habits NOW you are going to TRY & MAKE ME GUARD IT meaning the WRONG TECHNIQUE. *NO I'LL PASS........That's being a HYPOCRITE. Even if it is BASKETBALL.
lol it doesnt matter if the crossover is basic or not as fast as iverson. he just takes note of the basic thing that ur supposed to look for when u crossover: when the defender shifts his weight. thats when u go in the other direction. at that point, as long u as can run and dribble, Most Of The Time u will blow past the defender. A.I.'s speed just makes it look all the more spectacular
Hardaway's the change of pace . whoosh! Harden abuses it now. Lulls his defenders to sleep and bam , either a 3 to the face or just take him to the basket.
The distinction between Timmy's appropriately named "Killa Crossover" and A.I.' s evolved version is JUST THAT. When Tim But hitchu wit it it "freezes" you ...DEAD in your tracks. END OF DISCUSSION. I may be a bit biased cuz it was the first NBA signature move that damn near cloned in my early days of hooping. Peace! To Tim Hardaway (Sr.)
@MrlhOise there are no such things basic and complicated, it's all about execution no matter what kind of crossovers, we could all do those moves but not as perfect as he can, execution:feet positioning, faking the defender with head movement etc etc etc.
Chicago's very own Tim Hardaway from the wild 100's Algeld Gardens and Carver HS with the original killer crossover without palming the ball like AI. Nobody can do it like Tim.
What this doesn't show was his ability to go left if the defender didn't go for the fake. They had to respect that and that's what made the juke so effective. He also was very good a just stopping and pulling up off the dribble at any time.
People on here saying he does the same moves ,Ok he use to do that move a lot !! ,But ya Gotta remember Nba then aint had all that killer crossover Moves ,Plus I bet u if ya was to Guard him while he do that Every time Its gonna fuck ya Brains up ,Just by looking at this video It maby look easy to stop but I bet u in real life Its gonna be another feeling too it ,Just like that Crossover move .It looks easy to do but u gotta have Grate Timing to pull that shit off
cross over and killer cross over are 2 different styles, tim hardaway invented the killer crossover, the tourch was past down to iverson, and maybe a few others..kyrie is the current player with aa bit of both, but with spin moves to boot, with ither hand..i idea is to "POP" OR " SNAP" the ball from side to side, and have the defender reach,or react to the ball, then blow by him..look at tim's eyes, hee stares at his defender, iverson palms his a little, but iverson is very fast,
The hardaway crossover is way more difficult because it involves not cheating. Everyone else carries the damn ball. I don't care if you bring up Iverson, Kobe, Steve Francis (remember him?) & fill in the blank etc. I won't bring up anyone current because carrying the ball is now unofficially allowable in NBA. I remember all the kids I played against would pass around AND1 tapes & try to do that stupid nonsense. It never worked& pissed everyone off because it wasted time at recess. Lol
@jreg88 man you got to be joking? Way more depth? Lebron is the guy who set a new standard on athleticism, then suddenly the entire NBA is more athletic? Deron Williams is a fast athletic PG? No. Dwight Howard gets fouled out against a 40 year old Shaq. Dwight really set any standards? No. SG, who is the best today? Kobe. Is Kobe better than MJ? No. Get real. What about PF? Who was a better PF than Duncan/Garnett? Who is best shooter? 35 year old Ray Allen. NBA is actually watered down today.
