Some nights I wake up in a cold sweat, with the "Mr. Curious" theme playing on a loop in my head. Then I realize I fell asleep watching Don's channel again. I mean all of that in the best possible way.

that is funny.....hope Dave's theme music for that bit goes quietly into the night and away from you...sweet dreams.

"Joe Friday, homicide." Classic Dave. Great seeing him smoke cigars again too.

Genuine humor on TV was very rare back then. Networks only cared about numbers by this time. So for all Americans Dave brought fun and good times.

This is fantastic! Mr. Curious, a huge favorite of mine. Like a favorite SNL skit. Dave on the street and at his best. Missed him being able to do that in the later years. Thank you for putting this together. I still have quotes from these bits in my head all the time. My whole life. Crazy! I taped obsessively.

Thanks! I had prepared this compilation last July but because I had two copyright strikes against me at the time (since eliminated), I was limited to 15 minutes per upload. So I split this into two uploads then, editing each to make sure they didn't exceed 15 minutes. Today I saw that the full collection was just sitting there, waiting to be "activated." So that's why it's now accessible, even though it's seven months old.

You know, I live in New Zealand where Letterman didn't begin screening until 1996, so all pre-'96 clips and shows are a revelation to me. I'm seeing all this for the first time (and downloading pretty much all of them). Chris Elliott's work is genius too.

Nicholas Smith This. I have such a warped perspective, so (perhaps somewhat too) familiar with these shows, that it doesn't occur to me that so many others have never seen them. Ever. Thanks for your crucial reminder.

LOL, what a nice lady to not only talk with "Mr Curious", tell him what was in the shopping bag in the cart, but even giving him the soup! It sure contrasts with the other segment where people were aloof and / or hostile to a person!

I'd love to know how this was presented in the writing room..." I have an idea. Just stand there and ask people what is in their bags."

The guy under the seats and Mr. Curious - those are the things I remember most fondly from the show. Thanks!

Hahaha, this is terrific stuff! I watched a lot of Letterman over the years but for some reason I don't remember these segments. Imagine the cojones it takes to approach strangers without a mic or obvious camera and demand to know what's in their bag?!

You would not be able to do this in today’s time 2021...you would either get shot, stabbed, yelled at,ass kicked or arrested..maybe all of the above.

Re Don Giller: I'll paraphrase the infamous quote by Buddy Rich from the Bus Tapes, "This guy - this *is* my kind of guy."

God that background music, I still remember the music. I wonder if they just did these segments when they had no other ideas. Mr Curious was very funny.

Is the letterman jacket that Dave's wearing in the first segment the earliest version of the Late Night jackets? I've been wanting to have one made and i can't find the 1st version of the jacket.
