This installment of the 538 Politics podcast comes to you from the nation's capital, where Galen is joined in-studio by senior elections analyst Nathaniel Rakich and friend of the podcast, New York Times polling editor Ruth Igielnik.
They talk about the latest polling since former president Donald Trump's guilty verdict in his Manhattan hush-money trial and President Joe Biden's decision to issue an executive order restricting asylum at the southern border. They also play a game of historical election trivia, drawing parallels from past elections to today.

I don’t really mind the audio format too much personally, but it’s kind of a weird flex to repeatedly talk about how good it is to see each other in person in the studio…and not show that to the audience. 🙄

WHERE IS VIDEO?!?? PLEASE

This one's a podcast, not a videocast.

But they record the video, they just don't want to post it to RU-vid since they want to increase their podcast downloads
@mdavidmullins
@mdavidmullins 21 день назад
@@ckq Maybe. I think it might also be an advert thing. I use adblock on YT. I imagine the ads are unskipable on the podcast download. I would simple stop listening/watching/visiting 538 if they go this route fully. There is no media so good that it's worth sitting through an ad.

Yeah, it's getting ridiculous. I don't "watch" these anymore. Probably unsubscribing since they seem to be set on this decision.

@@steveyoung9687 I have unsubscribed -- only here now to see if they've reversed the butt-headed and wilful policy to not broadcast their video feed. You can see, in the public facing RU-vid analytics, that their RU-vid views have declined dramatically. For stats guys, they do seem pretty slow to notice that their RU-vid broadcasts are failing terribly. So sad. They used to be so good. Does anyone know of a similar pod with video on RU-vid that would be a reasonable alternative to the current 538 vid lacuna presentation that 538 now broadcasts?

11:00 it’s pretty incredible how much Americans shifted on immigration. We are probably the most anti-immigration this country has been since the 1920s. Trump’s language is probably more xenophobic than it was during the 2016 election cycle yet because right wing media has spreaded nativist propaganda about immigration and the rate of immigration has drastically increased since Biden became president because Biden during the 2020 campaign said that he’s more accepting to immigrants than Trump, Americans have begun to agree more with Trump. All the talking points the GOP says about immigration is wrong, from crime to the economy. Yet because of right wing misinformation, they have turned a non issue into an issue and now democrats are starting to move right to compensate for losses in polling. To be fair, Biden is losing this election because Americans are misinformed about the economy and immigration. Inflation was a side effect of the government preventing a recession and inflation has been coming down, job growth and GDP growth is doing well. When it comes to immigration, I understand it’s lots of people coming across the border, but instead of closing the border and deporting innocent people (which most immigrants are), let’s give them citizenship and bring them into this country. Immigrants, undocumented or not, are far less likely to commit a crime than US born citizens. So let’s stop scapegoating them.

Lol most Americans do not interact with immigrants ever. I’m unhappy with Biden on immigration because he’s pursuing right wing policies.

@@nottwo Yeah, not following the logic here. Trump would be objectively worse if you care at all about the people in Gaza. Exponentially so if you care about the people in Ukraine. To do anything to help Trump get elected, including not voting at all, is to support a path that is opposite what you claim to care about.

15% of people who live in America can't read or write English and you want to bring more in? No.

these guess the number questions that you are doing in all your recent podcasts are super annoying. It is not interesting or informative to hear people guess random numbers instead of you guys just having a normal conversation about the numbers. Please stop. If I wanted to here a dumb quiz-show format I would tune in to a dumb quiz show
